Kim Min-jong made his acting debut in 1988 through the film Don Quixote on Asphalt. In 1992, he and his fellow actor Sohn Ji-chang launched the duo The Blue and released their debut album called 1st: New Release. They then focused on their solo careers for a while before reuniting in 1995 and dropping a self-titled album. The duo’s popularity as well as Kim Min-jong’s roles in hit TV series such as KBS2’s Feelings and SBS’s Mister Q established him as a matinee idol in the 1990s. Aside from his work with The Blue, he also has several solo albums under his belt. After a song plagiarism controversy in 1996 and a dip in his popularity in the 2000s, he had a career resurgence in 2009 with the return of The Blue to the music scene with a new EP. In 2012, he joined the main cast of the high-rating SBS series A Gentleman’s Dignity, which won him a Special Acting Award at the SBS Drama Awards. In 2015, he acted alongside Kim Hee-ae in the SBS crime drama Mrs. Cop. He then returned for its second season aired in 2016.
Kim Min-jong attended the Seoul Institute of the Arts’ film department.
