Prior to his debut as an idol, JR appeared in the music videos for Orange Caramel’s Bangkok City and After School Blue’s Wonder Boy. He was also featured in UEE’s song Sok Sok Sok. In March 2012, JR debuted with the South Korean boy group NU’EST with the single titled Face. In 2014, they released their first full-length Korean album called Re:Birth. In 2015, their Japanese debut studio album Bridge the World hit the airwaves. In 2017, he and other members of NU’EST joined the second season of Mnet’s Produce 101, where he finished in 14th place.


JR, along with his fellow NU’EST members, made his Japanese film debut in 2015 through Their Distance. He also actively participated in various entertainment programs such as tvN’s Night Goblin in 2017 and JTBC’s Battle Trip in 2018. In 2019, he received the Male Idol Variety Star trophy at the Korea First Brand Awards. In 2021, he starred in his first Korean TV series called Let Me Be Your Knight, which was aired on SBS.
