DAY 1

Notes to Strangers (Things I Wanted to Say)

To the people running in public:
You got this. I hope you win that race, hit that mark, lose that pound, catch that purse-snatcher–whatever it is, I am rooting for you. (Oh, unless you *are* the purse-snatcher… Then I can only wish you a road full of banana peels.)

To the tween girl trying on clothes at Target:
You look great. You really do.

To the clearly-terrified person driving on the freeway for (I suspect) the first time:
You’re going to be fine. And you’re doing fine. We’ve all been there. Signal, accelerate, brake if needed, and breathe. It gets easier.

To the young men trying to find farfalle in the pasta aisle at the grocery store:
Here it is.

Love,
February

Thanks for this! So you saw me on my drive home the other night in the pounding rain so hard I could hardly see? Yep that was me in the slow lane – both hands tight on the wheel and trying to keep calm.
Thanks for reminding me to breathe!!!

One of my least favorite conditions for driving. Add in wind for more anxiety. Not enough? Add ToD on your left driving too fast for the conditions and throwing a spray that builds to a tidal wave of water to cover your windows thoroughly.

right?!?!?! ugh yes. my next note will be to the ToD:
SLOW DOWN AND STOP THAT 😉

That really happened to me one morning last week. The sun wasn’t up yet and it was RAINING! A big semi came onto the highway on the right and so I thought I’d pass in the left lane.
But because it was raining so hard and the median wall was on my left I literally could hardly see trying pass the truck in my little Honda.
But I was so freaked out that I could barely even go faster- once I did and got in front of the truck I felt like I was going to vomit.
Yooowza was that scary….. but I made it.
Note to self – do not pass a semi on a dark rainy morning again….

The purse snatcher reminds me of the scene in Can You Hear My Song when the lady caught & sat on the snatcher’s face. and the driving reminds Yi Na in Age of Youth, terrified of driving on the highway and the girls had to use hand signals to help her change lanes.

Aww… this is unexpectedly lovely. I’ll remember this post while I go through my day. Thanks, nicole.
