actual conversation i had with a person i know IN REAL LIFE:

Person who I know but not super well and DID NOT KNOW was on dramabeans: hey do you like korean dramas
Me, trying to play it cool all nonchalant-like, totally not having a panic attack or anything: ugh yes haha way too much
Person: haha! i like them way too much too. do you post on dramabeans? are you an errand boy?
Me, dead: 😬

y’all. this is the SECOND person in my real life to talk to me about dramabeans. if there are any more of you, please fess up now 😅

But in all seriousness: this person and I were not close before, but then we gushed excessively for a while about dramas and life in general, so I feel like we are totally friends now, and that is 100% worth it. ❤️❤️❤️

Totally makjang. That they could guess your beanie level makes me a bit suspicious though… are they beanie-stalking you?

Seriously, how cool is that! When people ask me “so what do you now that you are retired” and I reply “watch Korean dramas”, I get this stare like “for real?” Now I say I am studying how to speak Korean… Another reason I get this “huh?” look is due to that fact I live in the SE part of the US, not near any large cities. Very few Asians or least I have not seen many, maybe they are inside watching K-dramas?

@kethysk @keiko @stpauligurl it was a weird combo of feelings, but in the end, i was relieved. in the past, when people have found out that i watch kdramas, i’ve taken a lot of flak for it. so i try to keep my kdrama life a bit secret. so i was pretty nervous at first. but it ended up well 😀

(this person doesn’t live near me, so we can’t have face-to-face kdrama bonding times, but its nice to have a friend out there who understands. (she’s actually my only real-life friend who understands–the other person who has mentioned dramabeans to me, mentioned it in passing a while back, but doesn’t watch kdramas really. she had just stumbled across the site at some point.)

Actually I know a real person who lives in a town about 30 miles away from me. We’ve met twice and both times had such fun talking/spazzing about dramas. The last time was at her daughter’s reception at their house to meet the new SIL. She was busy, but when she finally stopped and we were chatting about this and that, then all of a sudden “I’ve been seeing Watcher! OMG what a great show!!” and on and on, but unfortunately I was watching everything but that.
But it was fun how animated we both got. She was the hostess and I didn’t know anyone but her and her daughter….
Still the bonding is something else isn’t it, when we meet another ‘addict’ in real life!

my kdrama addiction is no secret but i’m totally with you about how blissful it is to ave someone who understands. I had a group of friends in school who shared my love for kdrama but in university i only have one person and he’s not the gushing type.. just enjoys the dramas i recomend..small blessings..which makes me value you guys in dramabeans even more❤️

And this is why I dare not post anything too personal on DB.
