Dear beanies who are watching Rookie Historian: Do you think Rim and Hae-ryung will end up together in the end…or no? I’ve been assuming that they will end up together–romantic comedy, birth secrets, etc. etc. etc. BUT sometimes you do get a curveball-ending, and maybe the overall message of the story (real life vs. novels, for one) will require them to be apart? Just curious as to what beanies think will ultimately happen.
To me it always felt like a fairy tale and that they won’t get together. Due to class difference and her need to be independent (not married according to society standards).
Not sure where the show is going though.
Will Rim sacrifice his love and become a king that the country needs?
Yeah, I am starting to see things this way, too. It’s always been *incredibly* unrealistic, and I think I was approaching it as the suspension-of-disbelief one uses with fairy tales… but we’ve been told time and time again in this show that Hae-ryung doesn’t like fairy tales, that real life isn’t a novel, and even the comparison between history and fantasy.
I can’t see it happening to be honest, I’m suprised no one hasn’t said anything about hae ryung and the prince in the court. Surely someone else has seen them together all the time.
Part of me is still rooting for historian min to have a romance with hae ryung…
I can see the palace overlooking it or just writing it off as an affair between a prince and a servant–those had to be super common. but if they knew how serious it was, yeah, no chance, right? but i’m with the part of you that’s still rooting for them. hope springs eternal 🙂
From what I gathered, the king himself knew. Didn’t he threaten Rim to harm the historian, including the one in that room when he confessed to helping the foreigner.
I think people know and don’t care. The prince can do anything as long as it doesn’t harm the kingdom or cause disruption to politics.
At this point in the drama it seems unlikely but I still think the writer might find a way for their relationship to work somehow, although I can’t figure out the how right now. It’s true that the drama has been highlighting the contrast between their personalities & approach to life (real-life vs. novel) but it would be nice if they can find a way to meet in the middle somewhere and having the best of both worlds.
Also, I feel like the drama has been advocating progressiveness or breaking the norm in the Joseon era so far (females as historians, vaccines, Western influences) so if Jin or Rim ends up ruling, they might find a way for Hae Ryung to still have a career or do something for the people instead of just staying & looking pretty as the princess/queen. Maybe?
agree with this. will be interesting if the shoe chooses to blend real life and novels—because honestly that’s kinda what written history is. as unbiased as our historians try to be, the reality is that recorded history is as much a biased narrative as any other written work. (am i reaching desperately for a philosophical route than enables these two cuties? yes. yes i am. 😉😅)
Historian Song made her choice, with the CP’s help. She put literally everything on the line for her choice. What GHR will do, what her choice will cost… only 4 more episodes!
I hope with all my heart for them to end up together but with only one week to wrap up all story arcs i don’t see the show sparing one episode for their love to have that happy ending we are waiting for. But if they make it an open ending my rooting heart will wither up and die😭

Yeab I guess rim has been ignored by the king so no one else respects him or cares for him.

I think Historian Min still hasn’t let go of his wife’s death. He’s not ready, I think…

Sort of has a WWW Search feel to it.
