I’m watching two dramas with a 10 year age gap between the leads – I didn’t blink at one and squinted my eyes at the other. Age does matter for me it turns out…
With WWW I didn’t and still don’t mind the gap because I think WHERE the age gap is matters. At 28, you have lots of life to experience, but that’s a mature age I think. Mature enough to go out with someone 10 years old. In Somewhere Only We Know, one person is 21 and the other 31. This one I have a slight issue with because of the difference in life experience and maturity between those two specific ages. Much like 18 and 28 would also be an issue. It all depends on personalities in the end though. If the parties involved have the same maturity level, it works.
This! It’s difficult for me to accept age gap in drama, especially when it set in modern times. But I don’t mind if one of them is older than 25 year old. 19 year old and 38 year like the OTP in Goblin is so wrong, not to mention that his real age is almost a thousand years old.
I usually feel the same but in Goblin’s case, they didn’t have a “grown-up” relationship until she was grown. They had that one serious kiss right before he “died”.
I had more of an issue with the age gap in Mr.Sunshine.
Edward Rochester was 36 when he met Jane. He made her fall in love with him madly and I can see why it could work. When 18 you love with dreamy eyes and are able to pardon all of those little things which drive you crazy when older. As older you get as more difficult and exigeant you become.
It was different era. There were different expectations, opportunities and social norms for girls/women during Jane’s life time.
My problem with Kim Eun-seok, why she had to romanticise Jane Eyre in the 21st century Korea?
WWW is probably the first noona romance that hasn’t made me uncomfortable. The main reason is because Park Morgan is very mature.
Right now in Mother of Mine Tae Ju is very immature compared to Mi Ri. I dislike it but I love Hong Jong Hyun and Kim So Yeon so I’m sticking it out. lol. My most hated noona romance is High School King of Savvy. The other is this drama where the couple was arranged but he is way older. She saw him dressed in hanbok and went crazy for him, not knowing who he was. I liked it but she continued to call him ahjusshi even after they married. It was off-putting and ruined it for me.
I agree about WWW. But I don’t think it’s that he’s more mature than is usual for his age per se. I think he is more serious for and perhaps sure of himself for sure. But Ta Mi’s colleague is the one that seems a bit too immature for 28.

Yes, you are right. But still I stand corrected with a potential romantic relationship between a high-schooler and 38 y/o ahjussi is not right.

Actually one of my favourite novels. You could say that because of her experiences Jane was more mature than women her age, even in her time.
