When i started Kimi wa petto(2003) i wasnt really expecting much. Imagine my surprise when this turned out to be that great. Its like I found an old rusted box &on opening it there was treasure inside
I would recommend everyone to watch this version since the new one doesnt have this complexity and depth. A fantastic setting, a very relatable heroine and an adorable young doggy like Matsujun. This certainly helped me check myself.
Also it is perhaps the earliest feminist jdrama-the message that women can be better than men at work and studies and men do not have to feel endangered by that is so well portrayed. The gender flip (poor homeless guy, rich succesful girl) makes it bold.
This one is darker and delves much more into the psychological aspects of human behaviour. Escapism, sense of insecurity, loneliness and others. I was surprised to see how deep this drama is lol by the premise i thought it would be a light jdrama but it ended up being such an insightful gem
Oh, for some reason I thought you were referring to the Korean version. One of the reason I loved the recent Japanese remake is because it tapped on atypical topics as the older one seems to do as well. Cool. I might check it out.
Kimi wa petto is like a legend to ol’ jdorama fans like me.. i remember discussed it with some forum members and some are still my online besties with one in common – Matsujun 😂😂😂
Which forum do you guys talk in??
For a relatively newer jdrama fanatic like me, where can i discuss this. Also 99.9 both seasons are so good. I want to discuss too :c
It was long time ago, the forums dont exist anymore.
99.9 ~ Matsujun’s latest drama; i tried so hard to watched this series but gave up after 3-4 eps bcoz, criminal & lawyer stuff can easily make me doze off 🙊 *gomenne* But i enjoed Aiba’s Kizoku Tantei, Ohno’s Sekai Ichi Muzukashii Koi and Sakurai’s Saki ni Umareta Dake no Boku. I think these three Arashi have really grown up than the days when they were just a jpop boyband
Haha lawyer stuff bores me as well. But 99.9 both seasons are light and very witty with quirky characters and bad puns which makes it very enjoyable. Also Jun just owns this role. Season 2 is even better. Lol maybe you can give it a try later.
Ah yes certainly all Arashi really grew up well. I was watching Jun’s red carpet event for Narratage and his vibes seem that of an actor and not an idol who acts as well. Sugoi
Yeah i should try again.. but now i found more interesting lawyers in kdramaland ie Lawless Lawyer, Suits 🙈 i dont know whether i can find my way back to jdorama 😝😂

So very relatable. But prepare to go through a roller coster of emotions coz boy it is worth it.

I’m a fan of the remake and not sure how I might like this by comparison.
