Just started a few eps of Addicted and is it just me, or is Huang Jingyu’s acting in Addicted better than in Moonshine and Valentine?

I mean, I love his Helan but perhaps it’s because his Helan is so swoony and nice .. How do you act as someone so perfect? It’s unreal. Now I kinda wish they’d used Book Helan for the script.. With Huang Jingyu’s skills, he can definitely pull off Helan’s arrogance and ruthlessness.

No, not just you. I find his acting much better in Addicted. One of the reasons why I love Addicted so much is because of how well he sold his character and his chemistry with Xu Wei Zhou. That’s super rare in BLs. It’s funny though that he seemed more comfortable there and here.

His acting bothered me a bit at first here. It’s not bad though. Just not great either. Because this is his first more mainstream type drama, I’ll cut him some slack because I want him to get as much positive exposure from it as possible. So hopefully when he get’s more casting calls and better dramas, his acting will only get better.

I was wondering about a few factors.

I was reading an interview with Xu Weizhou and Huang Jingyu about Addicted and Jingyu’s real-life personality seems to be a lot closer to Gu Hai’s personality in the sense that they’re both spontaneous and a bit impulsive.

And I was asking this question on A Virtual Voyage as well.. and another commenter mentioned that it could be due to a few reasons: e.g. maybe it was the fact that both Jingyu and Weizhou were newbies at acting then and that lessened the pressure.. and in comparison, Victoria has more experience than Jingyu does and she’s also older.. and maybe that widens the gap between them.. Or maybe he’s just more comfortable around guys..

The environment of the production does affect the chemistry between the actors.

He does seem to be a bit.. (shy?) around Victoria in the BTS videos.

I was reflecting on it.. and just wondering if it’s the directing style.. and the writing of his character..

The few scenes that I thought Jingyu really got into it for M&V was the one at the club where Pipi is afraid of him.. and the one where he confronts his dad after drinking the medicine. That tension in his body was almost palpable in the club scene.

He has a lot of potential but the director should let him do more of his own thing..

P.S. do you think Qing Mu’s 21st century hairstyle is weird? He looks like he’s an idol wannabe. And also Qing Mu’s Tang dynasty clothes are kinda weird. Like, a mandarin collar with an outer hanfu robe? Whaaaat?

P.P.S By any chance, do you know what CP means? I’ve been seeing it in posts by Addicted fans.. I figured out that Yuzhou refers to Jingyu + Weizhou.. but no idea what CP means..
