I feel so surprised when I come across a supporting actor in a different drama, cast as a completely different character – maybe because I think of them as characters, not actors…
Kim Sun-young (Ji-ho’s mom) has been in several things. She was also in Answer Me 1988, Shopping King Louis, and many more. She’s really good and deserves all the roles she’s been getting!
Ah, I haven’t watched any of those dramas yet, so that explains it. 😅 She is awesome!
Extended realisation : I tend to associate all actors with the characters they’ve played, until I see them in many different dramas – at which point they transition from being characters in the story, into actors playing those roles. 😄
It depends on the actor for me! There are some actors that I can’t help but just see them as their actor even when playing a character, especially if they have mostly the same mannerisms and play characters with similar personalities. Lee Min-ho comes to mind as that type of actor for me. Even Gong Hyo-jin falls under that category, although I love her to bits and she makes every character very likable and engaging.
Then you have the ones that display such range and so totally inhabit a character that you forget they’re played by an actor. In the moment, they’re just their character. No surprise that Lee Min-ki falls under this category for me, lol.
That’s actually true for me too, I guess – it was so amazing the way Lee Min Kee seems like a wholly different person in the different roles I’ve seen him. I also just finished watching School 2013, and even though I’ve seen the actors there in different dramas, I wasn’t paying attention to that after a while – the story was too compelling. So it must be good actors+strong story which makes us forget that its fiction, and when either of those is weak, there’s scope for nitpicking on details.😅

Eg. Mom in BTIOLF was that Ahjumma in Legend of The Blue Sea, and Cha Shi Ah in Legend of The Blue Sea was Shin Hye Sun(hehe) in School 2013
