Hmmm. Minority opinion but I will need some time before I can rejoice about Mulan. I love her but I still haven’t gotten over the Peach Blossom movie abomination. The fault was mainly with the directing, editing and writing, but I can’t get over how my favorite drama of 2017 (and mydramalist ratings agree with me) got butchered on the silver screen. It hurt even more given how I have an enormous soft spot for Liu Yi Fei and a rather big one for Yang Yang. Maybe Mark Chao and Yang Mi were too perfect, despite not having a soft spot for either of them.
Totally agree with you. I don’t think I even finished the movie. The storyline just went so fast. And for people who have not watched the drama, I think they would have been lost watching the movie. I was so excited for the movie to come out namely for Yang Yang.
More than the plot, people unfamiliar with the drama would have lost any emotional connection to the story. I knew their love and I still felt emotionally disconnected, it was too focused on style and too theatrical. I loved Yang Yang in love o2o and I believe he tried to emote as much as he could in Peach Blossom but that couldn’t make up for bad writing and editing.
I finished the movie hoping desperately against hope that any minute, I would be able to fall in love with it like I did with the drama. It left me so traumatized I sat through the entire credit roll stunned, still hoping in my stupor that by the end of the credits, I would miraculously love it.
Yang yang has a good smirk. That should explain some of it 😉
I adored Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach blossom drama. Every episode was a winner for me and I was interested in all the characters. Mark Chao and Yang Mi embodied the characters so well that I was anxious about the movie. I’ve been holding off waiting for reviews like yours to know what to do. Thank you!
