Master’s Sun has me thrilled over a face touch in ep 8. Makes me think that newer romance dramas just aren’t mastering the art of the slow burn as well as these older ones?

    Totally agree.
Older dramas showed the development of feelings much better.
I’m watching That Fool (2009) these days and it also confirms what we say.

But then a drama came out named Queen In Hyun, with the romance development on ultra speed and it became so popular that many shows tried to replicate that speed. That is actually one of thd reasons I never really connected to that drama.

On another note, you are watching That Fool?? Squeeeee!!! I hope you like it!

Yeah! I have watched ten episodes in two days and a half. I’m hooked on such an endearing ML.

I have not seen Queen In Hyun’s man yet, but it’s been on my list for a long time. I knew you liked it less than other beanies but I didn’t know the reason. I also prefer slow burn romances because it’s easier for me to understand them.
With ultra speed romances I sometimes feel like I have missed the train, because I can’t understand where the love comes from.

Yaaay!! Gu Dong Baek-ssi has long been holding the bar for male leads at sky high for me! This drama has so many scenes in my top favorite drama scenes ever list! And the female lead is so sweet too! And the manager, the brother, oh I’m glad I rewatched it again very recently!

About QIHM, yeah… It’s actually only one of the reasons why I don’t like it… I have a whole list of them!! 😂
Missed the train was exactly how I felt about that romance.

In a similar, but different vein, I came across Kate & Leopold recently and rewatched it after 20 years, and was honestly dumbstruck! The whole story takes 5! Days!🤣🤣
The woman was quarrelling with her ex-boyfriend saying it took her 3 years to finally understand that they were not made for each other, then she immediately decided to go live in the 1800s because of a pretty boy she met 5 days ago!!! 🤣🤣 Granted, it is not just any pretty boy. Hugh Jackman does sometimes have irrational effects on me too, and that is definitely why I did not grasp the timeline on my first watch!!🤣

The scene where they were talking about Disney’s Aladdin and then she picks the OST CD (exactly the same CD I had as a child. I still have it) and listen to A whole new world… So lovely!

Kate & Leopold! I must have watched it but I barely remember it. Many romances are definitely rushed in movies.

That’s why I’ve never liked Kate and Leopold that much, lol.

@isagc So so lovely! I don’t remember the episode numbers so I can’t gush about my favorite scenes for fear of spoiling anything! But I’m really happy that you’re enjoying it!

Dramas these past two years also keep doing the thing where the ML falls for the FL at first sight or has loved her all along in secret. I find that SO BORING. It’s the reason Lovely Runner completely lost me.

        This. 💯 this.
I was fine with the slower pace of the Kdramas of the early-2000s (Beautiful Days, Hotelier, Winter Sonata) and then it was like a switch went off and everything gave me whiplash for a time because everyone was now making—and craving— the faster paced romance with the 16-episode format (versus 20+ episodes), and I was so confused.
I don’t mind the 16-episodes nowadays when it’s for the overarching plot and story of a drama, but to have it still for the romance part of it still doesn’t capture me. It just feels like one or the other person involved has to get really aggressive at some point to make it work— because we all know that the domestic Korean audience wants their OTP’s happy ending with all of the drama’s pretty plot bows 🎀 to be tied and pristine— but by then, it feels forced and not natural
