I’m not against western remakes of Kdramas, but this one is SUCH an odd choice. The whole theme is the reunification of Korea. There is zero way the story can work outside of Korea, unless you make a fictional country with a similar situation. Why not remake, like, Queen of Tears or something instead?
I can only think of USA and Cuba as a backdrop. Regardless, as much as I like to be an optimist, I simply cannot imagine any remake capturing the magic of the original. I’ve been burned by Netflix remakes way too many times. A Time Called You was a disappointing Netflix remake of Someday or Oneday. Avatar the Last Airbender also never came close to the magic of the original. That movie spinoff (El Camino?) from Breaking Bad was lackluster as well.
That’s why I corrected myself. But, again, it’s highly unlikely a US adaptation would set the story in any of those countries. Even Russia I don’t see happening.
With the appropriate counterpart it could be done— like how Scarlet Heart: Ryeo was done and the appropriate counterpart to the OG Chinese version was done— but this is Netflix 😩 According to my sci-fi fanatic friend, Netflix messed up Three Body — like, how????
This is a terrible idea, and not just because of the setting. This drama is too recent, for one, and way, way too popular. I agree that there are so many other dramas that could use with a re-making or even Westernization, but not this one.
What’s the desperation with making money of other people’s ideas when you don’t even bother to understand what the idea was all about in the first place? Did they even watched the show? Do they even know where the Koreas are located? Or literally anything about them? I just can’t. 😂😂😂

Well there are countries like that, but there’s no way a western show would set them there imo

India-Pakistan-Bangladesh
NK – SK
Russia and its components
Middle East has its own history
Some parts in Africa
China-Taiwan
Tibet somewhere
What are you taking about not being part of same country… they literally are/were

My first thought was that it would be a really long landing to be dropped in Russia from US.

That idea did occur to me, but I really doubt Netflix US would set it there
