Seriously, folks, what are we doing here? This is a kdrama discussion board. Not a single one of these recent β€˜themed’ posts has anything to do with dramas. The sole point seems to be leering at specific male body parts, and that’s pretty gross. It’s gone too far. Can’t we talk about dramas?

Hey I may be interrupting here because it is unrelated to me but one reason why I came to DB and I guess many others did as well because this was a place free of judgement to spazz about dramas or actors while other social media weren’t. I get where you are coming from but since the last discussion by zindigo, (I guess? ), there have been a lot of changes and beanies have taken so many considerations in the positive direction. Now what I see is people usually keeping most of actors’ photos etc in the comments. The fan wall is also not exclusively for drama discussions. People discuss their real life stuff here all the time as well. So I guess we should give them credit for taking that discussion positively and also create a balance between what everyone finds fun. The last thing me and I feel other beanies would want is the fanwall to become an equally judgemental place like other social media sites for all sorts of fun discussions.

Just putting it out here, those posts are not for me either, I just scroll past them but I highly appreciate that now all the photos are uusually in comments giving me the option to choose whether I want to engage with them or not. Also certain posts are only catered to people who are tagged in it which is something that used to happen on DB too. People would have inside jokes that others visiting the fanwall wouldn’t be able to guess what’s happenening but then I would just let it be their thing and move on.

I get that, and thanks. It’s true that recent posts have kept most of the photo content – which is still almost entirely advertising/publicity shots capitalizing on actors’ looks – in the comments, and that’s an improvement. It would be great if the tit show were always opt-in instead of right on the front page. Many people don’t have privacy in online access or would simply like to be able to open the fanwall in public without fear or embarrassment. I hope people will think twice about putting NSFW – or for home, depending on one’s home – content at the top of their posts, for that reason if no other.

To quote javabeans’ “About Us” here:

Dramabeans is a site dedicated to Korean dramas (K-dramas): discussing what they are, what we feel about them, why we love them, what we don’t love about them β€” anything and everything.

That leaves a lot of room, sure. But posts dedicated to admiring specific body parts or poses have traveled a looooong way from that purpose. Everyone can see the fanwall. It’s not a private space.

I totally understand what you are saying and I also agree with you. Just for some context, the fanwall is a pretty new addition to the site, around 2017. That about section is probably older. I remember there used to be a clause regarding rules that there should be no minoz oppa comments or something of similar nature, basically hinting at excessive fangirling but that too was applicable when the site only had posts written by db staff and comments but no fanwall. Dramabeans itself deviated from dramas to discuss, kpop, pop culture and actors. So I guess since the fanwall was built there are no specific guidelines on how to go about it. But I get your point and I think this discussion will lead to something good and suitable for everyone.

I am used to seeing occasional fangirling posts on wall and have had no issues. But now it seems to be a planned regular daily feature. For something like this a private discord with like minded beanies is a much better medium. Just my 2 cents.
I do appreciate that those posters are now posting pics in comments after our previous discussion. I am thankful for that and glad to find the beanie wall more usable.

Thanks for flagging this! I’m relieved some posts have gone under the comments – it’s more manageable than earlier. I wonder what happened to old-school myspace / tumblr type fansites where people could just post their pics and share with limited friends, instead of putting it out in the public domain.

Also, shout out for the NSFW comment!! It’d be great if (a) these posts are marked as such, and (b) pictures themselves go under the fold.

But in all of this, self-restraint is key. DB can’t be a site where one set of people police another. That’s no fun for anyone.

Whatever needs to be told has been said. People have taken the feedback and acted on it. We should leave it at this. What people do inside comments is no business of mine. If I have no interest in such posts I won’t expand.
Not posting NSFW contents on main post is a valid ask. I will also make note of it.
Like you said, no one wants to be policing or having such discussions. We are all drama fans here and we should spend more time talking about dramas we love and hate. Not this.

I don’t mind the occasional fangirling stuff (because I would do so too) but when it got to the point with two whole pages showing photos of the same actor, it’s honestly too much to bear. I don’t come here for that and I believe it is the same for the majority of other beanies.

Then this new feature of focusing on body parts, seriously?!

The suggestion of a header post to be followed by response posts with photos could be a solution if those fangirls feel very strongly about their case.

I am not for policing this site. As for self-regulation, I do find this latest version of body part posting before the comments on the wall makes me want to post less on DB about drama related things as it seems that the tenor of the site has tipped to a tone I am not interested in. I realize that many of the posts are by and for the male appreciating audience. However, if these types of posts were made about women’s body parts and women in various states of undress it would garner a lot of discomfort. But people should be free to post what they want here and people can respond accordingly.

I’m also grateful that most of that content is now being put in the comments where I don’t have to scroll and scroll past it.
