A final shoutout to Kim Myung-soo’s performance as Yoon-bok in DARE TO LOVE ME. I know DTLM irritated some folks to no end but L’s performance was true to the end.
If I could pick one thing about Yoon-bok that endeared him to me is that he respected EVERYONE except the baddies of course. However you arrive at it we can always use more respect for each other imo.
In episode 14 in the village Yoon-bok had arranged for a day for a visit by outside professionals to make presentations (as a sort of prototype of new academy he proposed for young people). The brother webtoon artist, friend barista, friend bodyguard martial artist made presentations. Yoon-bok spoke to the young people about the concept of ‘INSA’ (which is an important part of Korean culture and I had to look up of course lol). Within the concept of insa he stressed to the kids the importance of apologizing when a wrong is committed. It was dramatized with a hokey skit with Yoon-bok and Hong-do. (Episode 14. Scenes begin at 45:55).
This is an example of YB’s consistency throughout.
Because I am a sageuk fan and enjoy the genre I am sure that is why I watched and enjoyed DTLM. Believe me I totally suspended disbelief lol.
I totally understand those who do not enjoy sageuks (find them boring or the history portrayed distasteful) that DTLM was never going to be their cup of tea.
I can’t give you an answer but what I gather is that insa is more in the area of greetings and etiquette. YB said the most difficult rule of insa is admitting wrongdoing.
🙌 I was always a fan but choosing such a divisive role was a brave choice. Supported by the writing of course but L really approached this role, like Yoon-bok with a lot of respect. Indeed we can ALL use more respect for each other. 🫰
I agree @cera taking on Yoon-bok was a bit gutsy for L and let’s face it ratings wise DTLM was a flop with the SK public but I don think he need be embarrassed about his performance.
I plan this summer to go back to L’s 2020 KBS sageuk SECRET ROYAL INSPECTOR (16 eps). I think it was not available on a legal US stream back in 2020. I can’t recall why I didn’t watch it.
Meanwhile I will see you over at THE AUDITORS and Jin Goo’s mane of glory lol.
L should be rightfully proud of the show. His portrayal of Yoon-bok has been extremely deft with nary a false step. It was very easy for the character to become a caricature in the hands of a less aware immature actor. L was perfect, down to his perfectly showcases dimples flashed at appropriate times. 🥰❤😍

What did you like most about it, @marcusnyc20? I admit to being someone who didn’t take to this drama, but am interested to hear what charmed you so!

Interesting! Does that concept also have a parallel of forgiving the wrongs when apologies are offered?
