My father’ family is Norwegian- he took the trouble to learn that language before he went to visit, even though he was third generation born in America. I still observe Mid-summer’s Day as a major holiday- although the place where I live frowns upon bonfires (erecting a Maypole is a Swedish thing). Remembering our roots is important.
Glad you did!
For sure. It is the strength of our multicultural societies which should value the uniqueness in us but still encourage and facilitate our collective unity and common future. And, our languages need to be nurtured and spoken otherwise the lingua francas like English will dominate even more.
