General remarks
2024 was a really bad year of drama watching for me as ENA’s Like Flowers in Sand becomes the only show to get anything but 1/5 on the objective mark. Maybe it’ll get better in the 2nd half, but still, I find that shows these days often find themselves manufacturing tension through poorly developed villains or antagonists. I don’t even need original stories, I just want interestingly complex characters. And yeah the shows that don’t bother with characterisation are a goner, but among those that at least attempt, we often get either predictably complex or interestingly one-note characters. It’s so frustrating.
