I managed to check out the premiere week of The Atypical Family, and despite the obvious issues I might have with it (and which were, from what I’ve seen, discussed at length by you, Beanies), I found myself sacrificing some of my sleep (it NEVER happens) to finish up the two episodes. It’s moody, grim, at times bizarre, and very much discrepant with the warm days of fast approaching summer, but I was more and more drawn the more I was watching, and left curious about many different parts of this strange setting. Gotta say, overall I’m kind of excited for the second week.

I’m looking forward to the next episodes too.
The cinematography and composition of images are quite elegant and different.

Yeah, the directing really elevates the scenes too. Everything looks sophisticated, dare I say artistic.

It’s definitely unique, and the second episode was more watchable and enjoyable for me than the first. As you say, there are certainly problems with some of the characterizations and depictions of alcoholism and weight shaming, but I’m willing to wait and see how things progress. I do admit that the scene at the park with the ML thinking he was beating the crap out of the motorcycle guy to protect his daughter was darkly funny. It definitely encapsulated the humor of the show. And I wasn’t feeling the romance at all until that end scene, which really got me.

I feel the exact same way; I’m more than willing to observe and see how events unfold. It can all go in some really interesting directions.

Agreed, including on the timing of the release. I believe it’s @kiara and I who had an exchange this past winter about the seasonality of dramas. This doesn’t feel like a late spring release. Neither did The Midnight Studio.

Yup; this one screams fluffy blanket and a warm drink of choice 🤔 But we will see whether it’s the overall vibe of the drama, or just a stylistic choice to go along with the narrative, and as the characters undergo change, so will the rest.
