Beanies, the Baeksang awards nominees list is out. But some categories leave me baffled while others keep me torn. Still, there are some clear winners for me, mainly best new actor/actress.
The most glaring omissions for me are Kim Ji Won for QoT and Song Ha-yoon for “Marry My Husband.” In both cases, their male co-star was nominated (and deservedly so) but they were overlooked. I also don’t agree with the nom for the director of “Worst of Evil,” (the directors of “Daily Dose of Sunshine” and “My Dearest” definitely deserved it more) and think the only award-worthy work related to that drama is JCW’s performance, but he wasn’t nominated, either. Oh, but I should say Bibi’s nom makes sense–she did do a good job with a pretty one-note role.
I’m also baffled as to why “QoT” was left out of both the screenplay and directing categories. It almost feels like although he absolutely deserved a nom, Kim Soo Hyun got the nom just because he’s KSH, and as a result, a lot of other great work associated with that drama was ignored. Bizarre.
Also a little perplexed at Shin Dong Mi’s nom for Best Supporting for “Welcome to Salmadri.” She was fine, but nothing remarkable. Again, Song Ha-yoon deserved a nod there instead.
Glad to see Yoo Na, Ra Mi Ran, Ahn Eun Jin, and “Moving” get recognition.
I can’t agree more with the best actress and supporting actress categories. Besides Kim Ji-won, how can they leave Kim Tae-ri out? I am a scaredy cat so I couldn’t watch revenant but everyone kept commenting on how she nailed her role.
I am baffled as to how Good Bad Mother got nominated as best drama and best screen play when it was traumatizing to say the least with a fizzling out finale week.
Agree with as well with best director category as worst of evil for sure isn’t fit into the category. And My Dearest for sure is more deserving.
Best supporting actress for me is Fl’s friend in Behind your touch. She stole the show for me.
I didn’t see “Behind” so I can’t comment on that actress, but I absolutely agree about Kim Tae-ri. She was amazing in “Revenant.”
II can see why “Good Mother” got its noms. I know a lot of people had issues with how the drama portrayed the mom’s tough love/abuse (I did, too), but overall, it’s a well written, structured, and acted drama that’s exactly the kind of ambitious blend of genres that tends to get nominated. So that one made sense to me.
Ok, I’m back. This stuff is so hard. On one hand, bullies need to be held accountable. On the other, it’s difficult to know the truth and humans are complicated. Regardless, she still deserved this nom for her work.

I am guessing the choice to leave Song Ha Yoon out is deliberate and very personal, considering her scandal.

I didn’t hear about the scandal but she was the pillar of the show. So, it is a pity.

I just realized Twinkling Watermelon got no nominations. How could they do this to Lee Chan?

I’m happy for My Dearest and Knight Flower, and the nomination to the Art Director in The Matchmakers (well deserved).

Yeah, I am so happy for Honey Lee and the matchmakers sure deserve it. Nam Goongmin is one of the best yet underrated actors.
