6 episodes into MINE, some thoughts:

-> the acting of the leading ladies is unmatched. They nail EVERY SCENE.

-> I need Ok Ja-Yeon in a horror/thriller drama. She’d kill it.

-> The focus on *the house* and the relations between family and staff makes it very akin to a historical palace drama, somewhat

-> Seo Hyun ‘s struggle with identity vs duty and reputation (which both her sexual orientation AND being the one person holding this family from imploding upon itself play into) is one of the most engahing storylines in the drama and I hope they’ll touch on it more.

-> I hope the “adoptive mother is just as much of a real mother as the biological one” message will stick. Hi Soo is a fantastic mother and its good to see a step mother being a GOOD mother.

-> The nun is still toting that Birkin and I go insane every time that thing is on screen. she is also a professional pot stirrer.

-> good perfect nice husband is actually a gaslighting cheater that watches underground fighting because being gaslighting cheater is not enough. KDrama husbands favourite degree is 180, i guess. I love scummy husbands so it’s a plus for me.

-> didn’t expect to learn about peacock anatomy from this show but here we go.

-> I would very much like for MIL and SIL to stop. yelling. I think you can pass the point of their insufferable behaviour without frying my earphones.

-> btw SIL, this drama partakes in the abhorrent phenomena of “domestic abuse is funny if the abuser is a woman and the victim is a man” and f*ck off with that.

-> there is this live story between the “young master” and the maid Yu Yeon that I do not care for. The power imbalance is very clear and a lot of the guy’s action would be recived by viewers annoying as hell (at best) and exploitative (at worst) if he wasn’t pretty. I understand this is a foil for other relationships in the show and also a reprive from all the messiness, but it’s hard to suspend my disbelief on that one.

-> also kind of pissed off that this story has nothing to do with the actual plot and Yu Yeon’s poverty is mainly used for… what? making the pair seem more impossible? Why did we need gangsters coming for her? losing a well paying job is enough of high stakes without one off thugs.

-> the clothes and sets are spot on. ESPECIALLY for the leading ladies.

-> soundtrack choices are very out of the box.
