Like Flowers in Sand
All’s well that ends well. It wasn’t a show I loved utterly, but most bits were great, especially the ssireum scenes. JDY is a standout star, and it’s great he’s getting lots of work, even if the quality is mixed. What has me worried, though, is that this might be the best kdrama of the year. I hope not!, but 2023 did not exactly set a precedent to follow. Fingers crossed that I am wrong!

Already My best drama for 2024!
Are you watching Knight Flower? It’s costume but so much fun!

Yeah, I think Knight Flower may end up being second best of the year pfft! I’m dozing off a bit in between, but it’s mostly funny. I have concluded fusion sageuk are my favourite kind of sageuk, maybe because they’re usually non-serious.

I have to agree with you (oh, surprise!), but if not the best drama it will be among the top 3.

Ya totally! I don’t know if there will be three in my list in 2024 haha.
Last year I watched 8 kdramas, of which some were short ones, and I struggle to think of three shows I would recommend.

Ssireum scenes were indeed the highlight. The way they were filmed, the lighting. Everything was beautiful. I usually like sports dramas but this was really special.

The art direction and cinematography was wonderful in this. And it introduced us to the world of ssireum, which I found fascinating. I love sports dramas too! Probably among my top three genres. But I felt this show didn’t do the sport enough justice, that darned murder investigation kept coming in the way.
