#2023 Drama Round-up Day 15. Special Kimchi Slap Edition: Worst Parent
I was prepared to go on a rant (because honestly why are there SO MANY awful parents in dramaland??) but there are simply too many to even rant about. And really a Kimchi Slap is hardly enough. Most of these evil parents and step-parents are just downright criminal and deserve to be in prison.
So I’ll choose the one the writers themselves labeled ‘Nappeun Eomma’ or ‘Bad Mom’. Dear Young-soon, realising you’re a bad parent doesn’t end with just saying so and then never changing your behaviour 🤦♀️. Also maybe try not to almost murder your son, okay?
She was counting on cancer as a redemption arc… I’m just raging about it. Sole redeeming feature: Being dead. Well, someone’s coming back as a pile of bacon in their next life.
this is unfortunately part of most social norms around the world — once you’re dead, you become a saint, an angel, a forever loved princess or prince, a star who shone brightly in the night… regardless of how bearable or unbearable you might have been while alive.
Which is interesting because we all die at some point. Are we all angels in disguise? (Don’t answer that; it’s a rhetorical question. We are not. We just hate the idea of being meaningless little creatures and prefer to elevate our unavoidable end to heights it couldn’t possibly rise to)
