Beanies,
Can you recommend historically accurate and entertaining k-drama? I don’t think I have watched any. I tend to watch light-hearted fusion ones. I don’t mind if it is hard core, angsty and tear jerking.
I personally really enjoyed Gaksital/Bridal Mask. I’m not sure how accurate it was, but it didn’t hold back in showing the Korean/Japanese conflict and the story is excellent, though it does take a few episodes to really hit its stride, but once it does, it really is worth it.
The closest drama to the actual history was based on the most revered king of Korea “The Great King Sejong (2008).”
Im Kkeok Jung (1996) – Joseon. (The real Hong Gil-dong)
Empress Myeongseong (2001) – Joseon.
Age of Warriors (2003) – Goryeo.
Shin Don (2005) – Goryeo.
In-su, The Queen Mother (2011) – Joseon.
Jeong Do-yeon (2014) – Goryeo, Joseon.
Tears of the Dragon (1998) – Goryeo, Joseon.
Yi San (2007) – Joseon.
Nokdu Flower (2019) – Joseon (The main couple and the Baeks are fiction).
Haechi (2019) – Joseon.
500 Years of Joseon Dynasty (1983).
Jung Hyun-min, Kim Yi-young, Jung Ha-yeon are the more historical consciousness writers around.

Not a k-drama, but A Taxi Driver is based on a true story and is really amazing.

After A Taxi Driver, check out 1987: When The Day Comes. It was based on real historical events as well.
