IONTBO Ep 9 – This ep had a bad taste. MY speeds up as if she would just smash the car on the pier, then she leaves GT on the side of the road. He walks away, apparently slightly amused. The way drama deals with emotional violence as comedy is disturbing. I want some generic cold jerk back as the lead, a thousand wrist grabs would be so much better. I wonder if people who still like her character so much were ever close to someone like her, were ever left somewhere. Because you don’t walk away as if it was just another tantrum, it makes you question things.
I just dont think too much about it since it’s a drama. That scene was a parody of I’m Sorry, I Love You as well.
I took Gang-tae’s smile as him being amused that Moon-young stopped to give him his bag at least. She would have left him there with nothing if it was the old Moon-young.
I remembered So Ji Sub saying exactly those words when that scene happened and I know it has been a parody on other shows because it became a classic moment, but there are two big differences. First, the original was a melodrama and it was done with SJS playing the role of a person who was out of control, it was supposed to be sad. Second, in this show we have her behaving the same or even worse, because she left him there, but it became something funny.
I think show wanted to downplay what she did so it made her toss him the bag a moment later and yes, maybe he did smile because he thought of that as kindness but that would only show how twisted he would have become.
It bothered me at first too, but then I remembered Kang-tae isn’t exactly normal either. He has a bit of darkness in him. Otherwise “normally” people would not be comfortable associating with someone who has ASPD as unfortunate as that is. That’s how society is. But KT connects with her somehow Bc he can relate to her. They have dark humor Bc they’re dark – they’re healing but that hasn’t disappeared so easily.
Yes, he has issues, but not enough so that he would not understand the danger and lack of respect of what she did. People talk as if he is not of sound mind, he is, just because he feels guilty and lonely and represses his feelings doesn’t mean he can’t understand when someone is acting like a lunatic, he’s had plenty of experience with that. It’s the exact same when she pushed her publisher from the stairs and the drama used it as a funny moment. Again GT didn’t think much of it. Violence and abuse should not be romanticized, or used for comedy.
