Yoon San-ha is confused by girlfriend-turned-guyfriend Arin

The switcheroo hijinks have begun on KBS’s upcoming My Girlfriend Is a Tough Guy (roughly translated), following our confused hero Yoon San-ha (Romance in the House) in the newly released first teaser as he tries to make sense of what’s happening to his girlfriend Arin (S Line).

The trailer first backtracks to the start of their relationship, with our Park Yoon-jae (Yoon San-ha) recounting how every moment spent with his Kim Ji-eun (Arin) felt like a miracle come true. But then, one sudden day Yoo Jung-hoo (Who Is She) appeared, claiming to be the same Ji-eun. And though Yoon-jae is initially in angry disbelief, we of course know that it’s the truth.

Naturally, it takes some time for Yoon-jae – and Ji-eun – to adjust to all the physical changes. But we’re not yet told the details surrounding the transformation itself and while this is a sweet, fluffy story, it’s an interesting conundrum that will hopefully tread into gender discussions with care.

Making things even trickier, we can’t forget Yoon-jae’s school hoobae Chuu (Dating Class), who makes it known that she has her sights on Yoon-jae. And that completes our story’s main love square triangle. The video teaser then closes on Yoon-jae’s reflection, thinking that, “Could this absurd situation just be one more in the many miraculous moments that I share with Ji-eun? He is surely not my Ji-eun. But it is correct that he is my Ji-eun.”

Adapted from the popular webtoon by the same title, production for the fantasy rom-com was helmed by PD Yoo Kwan-mo (Police University) with Lee Hae-na writing. Slated to premiere on July 23 later this month, KBS’s My Girlfriend Is a Tough Guy will be following The First Night with the Duke in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Hmmmn
Does that mean Arin will not be getting a lot of screen time then? I am kinda looking forward to seeing her since AoS......

That was exactly my thought. I’m assuming there’s periodic switch between Arin and her “male” counterpart to develop the couple unless this is a BL genre.

(These premises are frankly ridiculous/implausible but I don’t read webtoons/webnovels/fanfic and get super surprised and excited when it actually somehow works on screen.)

I thought I would understand more with the teaser but as someone that dont know the source material (and actually prefers to not read webtoons before the adaptations), I'm just as in the dark as when we started about the mechanics... Guess I will have to wait til the actual premiere to know if we have an unpredictable change a la Beauty Inside or if something triggers the change, a la Ranma 1/2...
