- A new webtoon-adaptation called A Bona Fide Killer is in the works and an offer is out to Gong Hyo-jin (When the Stars Gossip) to play our title character, returning to her murderous work after a 3-year maternity leave. Currently in the early stages, the thriller also has Jung Joon-won (Resident Playbook) in talks to play Gong’s journalist husband, who is trying to discover her hidden secrets. - So Ji-sub (Mercy for None) is considering another action for his next project and if the stars align, he’ll become the titular Manager Kim. Based on a popular webtoon by the same title, our seemingly ordinary hero is pushed to reveal his secret agent identity when things take a very personal turn, faced with the sudden disappearance of his own precious daughter. [Newsen]
- Promos have set sail on Disney+ with the first poster for Low Life, taking us across the seas to 1977 where we’ll follow Ryu Seung-ryong (Chicken Nugget), Yang Se-jong (Doona), and Im Soo-jung (Melancholia) in this crime-mystery tale. Kicking off the period series with tjhree episodes on July 16, the webtoon adaptation will be releasing two episodes a week thereafter for a total of 11 episodes. [Sports Donga]
- Netflix came out with their first poster and video teaser set for the upcoming film Wall to Wall, showcasing our tormented new home owner Kang Haneul (Tastefully Yours). Also starring Yeom Hye-ran (When Life Gives You Tangerines) and Seo Hyun-woo (Our Movie) among others, the thriller will be launching on July 18 next month. [Sports Donga]
- Coupang Play is working on a second installment for the period action-comedy Boyhood, which starred Im Shi-wan (Squid Game 2) and Lee Sun-bin (The Potato Lab) in the first season. With the story moving to a new seaside town for a different flavor of bumpkin charm, it’s not yet clear if or which characters will be returning. However, Season 1’s PD Lee Myung-woo (The Fiery Priest 1) will once again be at the helm and is planning to start filming early next year. [News, Star News]
- Character posters have dropped for a shadowy Bitch x Rich 2, showcasing our main student cast led by Lee Eun-saem (Cheer Up), Red Velvet’s Yeri, and Minkyu (Missing Crown Prince). With a mix of new and familiar faces embroiled in another murder mystery for this coming Season 2, the suspense and youth series will be unfolding on July 3 next week. [MBC]

1. I love this premise. Gong Hyo-jin as a cool assassin juggling her toddler. With a straight man husband who also perhaps has a secret alter ego!? Should be fun.
2. Of course action suits So Ji-sub and he looks cool too - but really would it kill him to do a melo rom-com perhaps!?
Cue unrealistic expectations of fans. 😅Anyway we will take crumbs ... and a Korean Taken. Surely Oppa will have a happy ending in this one.3. I am all for crime-mystery tales. Especially one with such a stellar cast.
4. Well Kang Ha-neul is definitely giving a different flavor than Tastefully Yours. 😂🤣
5. Omo ... so sequels have become the norm in K-dramas now!?
6. Very interestingly framed poster. Gives very intriguing vibes.

1: Yes! I have been waiting for a drama with a busy, pragmatic mum, superheroineing on the side! I was suggesting Spidermum, but that's just because they are already doing the many-version's thing. So I was thinking "What if famous K-actors were Spiderman?" And I imagined Kim Mi-kyung would be that type. But I would love to see Gong in that role.
4: It looks a bit like Happiness, except for the lack of cute preschoolers and romance. It could be really fun. Maybe.

Also:
I don't want sequels to be the norm. Very few Dramas need them. (Mr. Queen does. And Knight Flower. I have more or less written the plots already).
I like that the stories have an end and don't just go on till all the interest has been squeeeeeezed out of the plot.

Understandably, the two action poles for Korean melos seem to be Neeson and Keanu. I just read a post about an upcoming child trafficking drama wherein the younger male lead looks like he's pulling a near Wick parody as another man of impossible "will and focus."

While K-movies pull no punches, K-dramas generally don't go as dark. Or rather tone down in the direction even if the matter is pretty dark. However, with the OTT market, even K-dramas are going all gritty and even brutal. As you rightly pointed out the two action poles seem to be Neeson and Keanu but the treatment is pure Korean.
