Jung Il-woo stars in KBS weekender Splendid Days

Jung Il-woo, Jung In-sun, Yoon Hyun-min

KBS has announced its next family drama Splendid Days (roughly translated), which will be about (you guessed it) splendid days. Whether those moments are in the present, past, or future, everyone has them once in their lives, and the show hopes to capture those wondrous times in this multigenerational family romance.

Headlining this weekender is Jung Il-woo (Good Job) as the competent Lee Ji-hyuk. Having found success in both love and work, Ji-hyuk is enterprising and collected but also humorous. However, his life only looks glamorous on the outside, and after experiencing rock bottom, he overcomes his hardships and searches for the true meaning of life.

Opposite Ji-hyuk is the bright Ji Eun-oh played by Jung In-sun (DNA Lover). Despite her difficult upbringing, she never lost her passion nor her zest for life, and now she manages a cafe while working as an interior designer. She once had a crush on Ji-hyuk, and though he rejected her feelings, she still remains by his side as his kind protector.

Contrary to the show’s leading lady, Yoon Hyun-min (Bora! Deborah) plays silver-spoon Park Sung-jae and the possible third leg of this love triangle. Thanks to his background and wealth of resources, the carefree and well-mannered Sung-jae appears to lack nothing, but inside, he harbors a deep loneliness. Thankfully, he does find a connection with Ji-hyuk and his family, but in the near future, he will have to decide which to keep in his life: love or friendship?

As for the production side, PD Kim Hyung-seok (Cheat on Me If You Can) takes the helm alongside writer So Hyun-kyung (Twenty Again) who worked with Kim previously on My Golden Life. KBS’s Splendid Days is set to premiere in August in the Saturday-Sunday slot following For Eagle Brothers.

Big smile on my face as I read Jung Il-woo and interesting character.

Jung In-somebody?? plucky, lower status female (oh God, not another Hyo-sim/Live Your Own Life clone)

Yoon Hyun-min! I smile at another favorite and. . . . dang a stupid love triangle just like LYOL which was THE drama after which I swore to never, ever watch another weekender.

However, I know I won't be able to resist for the first 8-10 episodes as the writer fleshes out the various characters.

Irony of ironies - It was during The Real Has Come (another awful weekender) that YHM broke off his 7 (or 8?) year relationship with the FL Baek Jin Hee .

The problem with LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE was not Hyo-shim but her truly awful mother and the rest of her parasite family (who was followed in the next Weekender by an even more awful mother). No suggestions have been made of any bloodsucking mothers in this description. I would note that this time it appears that it will be the ML who hits rock bottom with the implied story being that our FL rescues him- not the other way around.

MY GOLDEN LIFE was good, so the writer has some credibility with me. As for the PD, that director was smart enough to let Jo Yeo-jeong do what she does so well in CHEAT ON ME IF YOU CAN- and a director who has the ability to do that knows their stuff.

The need to cater to YHM's need to rehab his own image after dumping Ms. Baek remains in my opinion a major reason why THE REAL HAS COME went into a total tailspin in its second half with FL's demands in response adding to the catastrophe.

My apologies, I just realized that I confused YHM with Ahn Jae-hyun, who went through a divorce at that time-but the dynamics were still the same. Baek Jin-hee (the FL) also had a need to fix her image as well. Both of those needs fundamentally altered the script and neutered the side stories due to an idiotic time skip.

I almost tagged you in my original post with the notation that after the 1st 8-10 episodes I would rely on @oldawyer's running narrative to keep updated.

I've occasionally read your comments on Eagle Brothers and if you are pleased with how the drama ends, I may binge it when I have the time.

Coda: Ahn Jae-hyun is probably one of my least admired actors - not just because he's an as*hole in real life, but he's a really, really bad actor.

I totally agree with you about Ahn Jae-hyun.

I'll be watching. I kinda like long dramas....I don't like long episodes, but I do like long dramas. And, this is an interesting reunion of Jung Il Woo and the writer for 49 Days.

Jung Il-woo where have you been?! So happy you are back and I will try another weekender just for YOU! It sounds like it could be good.

I think both male characters sound interesting enough, but the FL’s description is an absolute snooze fest. Although - are we getting another classic dramaland cafe-combination?! Because I’m very much in favor of that.

The writer is good, and the PD is capable. A love triangle? Hopefully there will be a lot more to this story.

Having JIW on my screen for 25 weeks is not a bad thing, especially with this production team.

I haven't seen Jung Il-woo for the longest time and I also haven't watched a weekender for quite some time. I might give this a try.

I am so happy Jung Il Woo signed up for another drama even if its a weekender. I like his character description but not sure if I can sit through another weekender. Hopefully the story is good and I may just check this when it airs.
