The Divorce Insurance: Episodes 9-10

Following their abrupt dissolution, our divorce team scrambles to secure the future of their product, as well as exonerate one of their own from a frame-up.

EPISODES 9-10

We resume with Na-rae’s explanation that the team has been dissolved because the competing insurance company already has the approval to officially launch their own divorce insurance. Our team’s approval is on hold at the FSS, and even at that, their product is still in the test phase. They wonder how the competition developed and requested approval for their own insurance so quickly, and Jeon-man raises questions about a mole in their company. Na-rae cuts in to say the audit team will look into it, and when the audit team does look into it, they discover a data leak on Han-deul’s computer. Han-deul is suspended pending further investigation — and while the team trusts her, they’d need executive level access to view the CCTV footage and computer log in records that can prove her innocence.

Ki-joon approaches Na-rae for help since she’s a company exec, but her hands are tied. Why? It turns out she and her boss — the vice president — planned to steal the divorce insurance idea and launch it in China. Na-rae’s end goal was to advance her career and work her way up to become VP of the China branch. But there’s no honor among thieves, so the vice president sold the idea to the competition in Korea. Jeon-man overhears a conversation between Na-rae and the VP, and he’s disappointed she betrayed the team. But he’s non confrontational when he sees her afterwards. Instead, he advises her not to make choices that can worsen the situation, before telling her to hang in there and to follow her true feelings.

Na-rae uses her executive powers to access the login records and CCTV footage, and all roads lead to the VP as the mole. She tries to use this evidence as leverage to get him to stop the competition from launching, but the VP refuses to be threatened. He tells Na-rae she’s no different from him, and this hits her hard because she actually enjoyed working with the divorce team. Betrayal aside. After crying her eyes out, Na-rae comes clean to the divorce team about the plan to launch in China, and the part she unwittingly played in Han-deul’s frameup. It was her suggestion to use a TF team computer to send materials to China, but the VP used it to leak data to the competition.

After apologizing to Han-deul and the rest of the team, Na-rae gives them the CCTV footage and login records. Thanks to a photo from the vow renewal ceremony of the tiger couple from week 3, they’re able to prove Han-deul wasn’t in the office when her computer was used. Na-rae also meets the competition with proof of their collision with the VP, and they cancel the launch of their divorce insurance after she threatens to sue for IP infringement and other legalese. In the end, the audit team comes for the VP, Na-rae is suspended, Han-deul is off the hook, and our divorce team is back in business. Yay!

Our team’s next agenda is preventing a divorce between a client and his content creator wife. The wife manages every inch of her husband’s life to fit the standards she has curated on social media, and he feels suffocated. Han-deul is all for the divorce, but she goes along with the team’s plan to try talking to the couple. The husband tells Ki-joon that divorce is the answer because he’s no longer happy, and Ki-joon is reminded of his late sister who shared a similar sentiment. As for the wife, she tells Han-deul that she had a hard time getting pregnant and her husband took her on a trip to get her mind off it. She was really happy on the trip, and she started documenting their happy lives on social media because people’s envious comments make her feel better.

The wife doesn’t want a divorce, and she persuades her husband to attend couples therapy as suggested by the divorce team. The therapist ends the session by asking what they want from each other — and while the wife has a list of aesthetic things she wants to do, the husband has just one: spending a day together without phones. They try their best but struggle to get through the day, and they eventually explode at each other. Afterwards, they manage to patch things up. Somewhat. The situation still seems bleak, but they admit they never regretted their marriage. And they agree to give it their best regardless of whatever choice they make in the end.

Speaking of choices, Han-deul’s choice to get a divorce did not sit well with her parents. For two people who are stuck in a loveless marriage, Han-deul’s parents would rather she remains unhappily married than happily divorced. Following Ki-joon’s advice to end things well for the sake of oneself, Han-deul invites her ex-husband to a family gathering. Her parents assume she has decided to keep up the “married” act like they asked, but she announces that she’s divorced. Oops! Then she exposes her ex-husband for his many affairs while they were married. Double oops! For the icing on the cake, Han-deul distributes divorce insurance pamphlets to her relatives for any interested parties to sign up. Pfft.

Han-deul’s final act before leaving, is to give her ex-husband the bidet screw he has been hounding her over since the divorce. And now he can go screw himself. Afterwards, Han-deul admits to Ki-joon that she feels totally better after ending things properly, and the week ends with their kiss. As for the other set of couples, Jeon-man is stunned into silence when Na-rae basically asks him out — and this comes after he stood by her through her betrayal, suspension and redemption. Woong-shik buys Ah-young the sologamy wedding kit she has always wanted, but now she’s hesitant to accept it from him. We shall find out the fate and future of our show’s couples in next week’s finale. Stay tuned.

Thank you for the recap. 👫➗🗂

As expected one of uri OTP (surprisingly not both) was implicated in the hacking scam. Anyway the quick resolution (we only have two more episodes) was much appreciated. This story arc was forecast from the beginning and was the most uninterested plot line.

For now I want to know if we will get to meet up with Noh Ki-joon's ex-wife or will it remain a mystery. Also I am casually interested in wrapping up the four love lines. Including Team Leader Na Dae-bok who surely deserves a break.

There was a baffling quick and clumsy “redemption” arc for Na-Rae. If her corporate “crime” was to take the Korean made divorce insurance product with her to run the company’s China branch, how is that stealing if it is for the same insurer?

However, her superior double cross to sell the product IP to another firm violates many civil and criminal laws. At this point, I really don’t care about another salvage project to stop a claim being filed during their probationary period. Let the project fail because it was a terrible idea from the start.

FYI, recently China insurers have had a big drop off in premiums. “Marriage insurance” is being discussed as a new product, with payouts depending upon how long the marriage lasts. If it comes to term (50 years) the couple gets a pay-out, too. It seems only housewives are interested in the concept, but risk assessment shows the premium would be too high for normal couples to afford it.

The loveless marriage between the influencer and bureaucrat was caused their inability to conceive. Instead of a baby, she threw herself into instagram perfect wife. We can see that could be very annoying for the husband. Another case of lack of communication killing a relationship. Han-Deul used the family gathering to toast her ex was fine as it brought out his rage to the shock of everyone. The writer called it closure, but actually it was the license for the rooftop make-out scene. All the couples seem to have out-of-character personality experiences in order to date.

Although i don't think her parents will understand and start treating her properly....they give me the impression that they expect her to suck it up in this miserable marriage, despite how wrong her douche bag husband was or what he did.....sad yet more common than we can imagine, even in this day and age.....

I dislike this trope where the divorced lady doesn't tell her parents her ex cheated on her or whatever. Then the divorcee gets blamed by her parents, leading to a lot of angst. It’s a bit silly. HOWEVER, Kang Han-deul finally standing up to her awful parents AND even worse ex was the coolest ever. Dropping the divorce insurance brochure was a boss move too. And tbh, even that kiss was 🔥🔥. Where was this energy for the past 10 episodes??

every 10 mins the couples just stare at each other dramatically, that song starts playing... I get it, man, these are the plot mandated couples. I know other kdramas do this too, but it feels so jarring and forced here.

As for the case of the week, I have never seen a couple that needs to be divorced more than these two. But my god, are they compelling... I'm fully invested in the personal lives of these two fictional strangers.

Setting aside all the ways they make each other unhappy.. So the lady only became obsessed with social media and likes and comments after struggling with infertility... But was the husband always such a gormless, grim little killjoy? Did he become that way after marrying her?? Anyways, if they somehow stay married next week, I will need therapy myself. Those previews better be lying.

Well, the corporate drama didn't end with a bang but a whimper, and my guess that the rival ceo was one of Ki-joon's ex was wrong. Han-deul had closure with her divorce and her parent's attitude, and 1st & 2nd leads' ships are sailing. Just ticking the boxes for the last 2 eps: Ki-joon still needs closure about what happened to his sister, and possibly an appearance of his 3rd wife? It wouldn't make sense if she didn't show up. The team leader has pin his wandering wife down long enough to resolve things, and, of course, Ah-young and Woong-shik have to hook up because choosing to be single is a misguided delusion.

I'm still grabbing the recaps because I love 90% of the cast BUT what's with the obvious plot? we knew it was her all along... I would have respected her more if she actually was planning to give it to the competition! what a dumb idea to take it to the same company but to another branch when people would obviously know there was a team working on that! The speedy confession and redemption sure came easy for her lack of loyalty and dumb end game. The punching bag/doormat story for Handeul is just too much... like why would she let everyone think she did something to end her marriage and not come clean about it... I know thats no one's business but at least talk to her parents instead of mopping about it. The couple of the week... the dude could totally be me... thats grounds for divorce for me... why the need to show a crafted fake life to get total strangers jealous? I hope they book more sessions and work on the wife's low as hell self steem!

This show is not a rom-com. It's an office drama with a side of romance and humor. There wasn't much humor this week though.

I accepted that the whole divorce insurance launch is the main plot. I have been enjoying how understated the romances are. Especially Jeon Man and Na Rae. They had lovely, swoony moments like the hand holding in the elevator. The trope of saving the girl from the motorcyclist made me roll my eyes a bit only due to the fact that it was typical. I like their many smiles now. So sweet that he cooked for her. Provided slippers for her in his home, got HER a chair, heh. It's great seeing Lee Kwang Soo in a role that has sincere, heart fluttering actions and is not all about jokes. He does comedy well, no question. Just nice to see another side to him.

Han Deul and Ki Joon also remain pleasant, if not exciting. Their kiss scene was good. Hotter than how their relationship has been developing.

The insurance side of things have gotten mostly boring. The case of the week couples have their stories. The guy sadly staring at the ring photo got me for a moment there. But the progress and mystery of the insurance project launching or not isn't compelling. I'm prepared to see the team be successful.
