Lunching with Lee Jong-seok and friends in Law and the City
by tccolb
Office hours are now open for promos on tvN’s new romance Law and the City (previously Seocho-dong), introducing us to our five lawyer lunchmates – led by Lee Jong-seok (Big Mouth) and Moon Ga-young (My Dearest Nemesis) – through the drama’s first script reading as well as the first stills.
Despite the English title change, the story remains set in the city district of Seocho-dong where our leads all happen to work in the same building, though each are in different law firms. However, food and break times become their common ground, and we follow our colorful five as they become friends (and maybe more) over their shared experiences in both work and life.
At the head of the group, we have our opposites-attract pair with the seasoned Ahn Joo-hyung (Lee Jong-seok) being a senior associate attorney, while the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Kang Hee-ji (Moon Ga-young) has just reached her one-year. And chances are her (and his) next milestone will be ~love~.
Kang Yoo-seok (Resident Playbook) replaces his scrubs with suits, playing chatterbox and busybody Jo Chang-won. With extroverted energy and charm to spare, Chang-won isn’t even discouraged if his meal buddies are inattentive and prattles on without a fuss.
The ringleader of their lunch club is Ryu Hye-young (Gangnam B-Side), taking on the role of the tough Bae Moon-jung. Whether it be reading menus or putting a stop to loud chewing, Moon-jung takes swift control of any situation. But she also has a big softie heart for people.
Rounding out our foodie quintet, Im Sung-jae’s (Newtopia) character is the extremely polite Ha Sang-ki. Sang-ki is also a strong believer in individual boundaries, and displays a different side of him when he’s at work compared to when he’s with his friends.
On the production side, PD Park Seung-woo (Adamas, Kairos) is at the helm with scripts penned by real-life lawyer Lee Seung-hyun. tvN series Law and the City is currently slated to broadcast on weekends, following Our Unwritten Seoul in July.

Hoping it'll be good since an actual lawyer is helming the script.
I'm also happy to see Kang Yoo Seok again so soon after RP, though I hope he doesn't get pigeonholed into these bubbly, scatterbrained roles (also similar in Tangerines, I read).

It's been years since I've last seen Bora-noona, probably since Law School. So I am excited to see her and Jae-il inclusive.

My only two Lee Jong-seok dramas are from early kdrama days for me: MBC’s W (2016) (Viki) and SBS’s WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (2017) (Viki) (which had a terrific OST iirc) and I enjoyed both so it has been awhile.
It will be nice to see Lee Jong-seok again but another hook for me for this drama that is not reflected in the pics above is the casting of Yeom Hye-ran (who we now know only picks winners lol).

I have seen 8 of LJS's works and imho his best acting was in Pinocchio. His scenes with Yoon Kyun Sang are among my most favorite kdrama scenes.

I like the idea of them working in the same building and meeting by chance instead of working at the same law firm. It sounds a little more natural for making friends and dating than the standard kdrama. Although the last time I was in New York, I happened to meet my coworker from Boston and his wife in the Lego store. I wondered why the universe could make that happen , out of the millions of people in New York that weekend, and not any meet cutes.

This sounds like a mesh of the eating buddies in Hospital Playlist and My Liberation Notes. Hope it’s a good slice of life drama with some laughs and romance.
