Re US availability for KBS’s PUMP UP THE HEALTHY LOVE.
PUMP UP is now on Viki US’s “Coming Soon” list.
My severe case of availability angst has been assuaged.

I am so sad about that also - he was at the right time at the right place, and there was more for him to be. Then again, he was 88. It's a lucky man to live that long and keep his faculties for all the time he was well enough to be able to speak or lift a hand. We can hope against hope that the next pope will be special, too - someone that takes the words of Jesus about "What you have done to even the smallest of mine [like in "those people who are mine"], you have done to me" - which is the most radical call for solidarity I have ever heard (I have translated from Danish).

two elections - canada n australia - donut's reality tv show made both elections very competitive.

Stock market - ohhhh - what an amazing April it is - jackpot week after week - oppurtunity u see, milk d oppurtunity. Seriously, enough to make u rich n into d society of top 5%

Im so irritated because I have this colleague here generating around 700 AI pictures a day and I just see the blood of nature on it all. she also is resolute that she is right and anyone protesting is wrong and claims that traditional art supplies are much worse for the environment and if artist as a profession became osbsolete it would be better for the planet-

and here I am with a load of supplies ready to do atraditional ink painting workshop

anyway I dont know what to watch. im not drawn to anything.
maybe some rewatch that is a bit longer. Dragons?
im nervous, because my korean language teacher is coming to teach so ...

The AI computing farms are huge drain on the electric grid just as much as bitcoin miners back in the day.

I guess cultures have been worn down so much that "fake" now passes for "real" or the truth. It is a lazy way to live one's life.

You seem very upset. As you should. But too bad that you are noticing the "crazy" when it only affects you personally. Artists should be obsolite. Sure, cows are a must, that has been decided already. What's next...humans? Too much CO2, too many mouth breath. LOL! I now get why the crazy try to ruin paining masterpieces because they really think that their production added to the polution of the earth! Hilarious!
But on what is your colleague doing the AI images on? Thin air? If I would be you, I would tell her that her "art" shoold be obsolite because laptops and smartphones generally have a more significant environmental impact than traditional art supplies due to their complex production, usage, and disposal processes. And this is on top of what welh wrote.
But what do I know, I am just a bot.

Anyway, all generative AI is theft. All of it.
Though the impact on the environment is the same when you use it privately, at least the reproduction is just for fun. As for intellectual rights, that is more like the my husbands Ex who recreated jungle scenes from a Danish artist in their toilet (she was good. And the net of small lights in the ceiling looked a lot like stars.) The original artist - apart form being dead - would not have come to decorate their toilet if she had not done it.
But when we are talking about illustrations, covers, posters etc., then it is stealing from artist. Apart from *looking* generative ("ordinary, banale, normal, and vulgar" as Gigi says), it is also theft.

Actress Gong Kyo-jin explained on her YouTube channel what it was like on WHEN THE STARS GOSSIP. She revealed just how demanding the production truly was.

“Every aspect of filming this drama felt new to me,” Gong confessed, highlighting the unique challenges posed by the show’s outer space setting. “I couldn’t believe how far pre-production could go. Some parts needed almost two years of post-production work.”

She revealed that 15 out of the drama’s 16 episodes were set in space, meaning she and the cast spent the majority of the shoot simulating zero gravity. “We’d film for 15 hours while suspended on wires, and half of that time was literally spent hanging in midair,” she said. “My blood circulation got so bad at one point that I yelled, ‘Please get me down!’”
Despite the criticism, Gong expressed pride in the work behind the scenes. “The actors worked hard, but the staff really endured so much,” she said. One episode took two months to film. “Looking back now that it’s all over, I realize just how hard I worked too.” She added with a laugh, “I doubt anyone will dare to make another space drama for a while.”

Gong admitted “The story was complicated, not easy for viewers to digest,” One of the most controversial elements? The ending—where Gong Hyo-jin’s character dies just a day after giving birth. “My mom cried for three days,” Gong Hyo-jin said, laughing. “She even asked me if it would get better next week. That’s when I realized how difficult it was for older viewers to understand.”

She also addressed the show’s criticisms head-on, explaining, “People said space is still too early for Korean dramas. And maybe they’re right.” But she emphasized that someone has to take the first step into new genres: “The beginning of something new always brings mixed reactions. No one knows which work will succeed, or whose turn it is, but the effort of those who go first often goes unrecognized.” She said from the beginning, (we) wanted to talk about creating life. She thought about what astronauts do directly, and thought it was only science fiction: studying whether we can continue to reproduce in zero gravity.

Gong’s personal experience on a series that was a critical and ratings flop still must weigh heavily on the actors and crew. It seems the long production process may have been the major factor why the show did not work. In a skittish k-drama industry, producers cannot count on big stars to produce profitable projects. And bombs can adversely impact future offers.

What an interesting write up! Thank you. I enjoyed the show, still think about it, and thought it deserved recognition for an ambitious storyline. Maybe as time passes, more people will take a look at the drama and realize it was visionary, tackles hard subjects and the production was professional and accomplished. That's what I saw, at least.

Not to mention, it reminded me that two veterans of kdramas, Lee Minh Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, are darn impressive actors who know what they are doing and do it well.

I really like Gong Kyo-jin. It was beacause of her and the whole cast that I saw probably a few more episodes of that atrocious drama. The writing was stupid and so boring even before the ending. Which I read about it here and Ias very happy I dropped it early. I get that the subject of it is maybe interesting with all the other crazy talk about life on Mars. (Am I the only one that feels like we are living in a bad sci-fy movie where we have 2 powers each ruled by a billioner that have different ideology? One that "wants to save the world" by reducing its populaton and the other that wants to ship it off on another planet. And am I the only one that hopes for Taejong to switch bodies with someone in the present so that he will cut left and right of this modern time nobles?) Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I am amazed on a daily bases of how skilled and professional Korean actors are and I understand her frustration but do not agree that the drama was only about reproduction in zero gravity. It was about the same woke agenda that women should fear reproduction in all environments, under all circumstances. For her to sell it as something else gets a down vote for me.

I thought it was really interesting that they were doing a k-drama in space, that and the cast convinced me to watch. And, I'm on those watchers that only do a handful of live watches over the year. I didn't mind the watch and was never bored. So, really I was fine watching it. I was entertained. But, that ending is up there with a Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol in terms of treating viewers like they are stupid. You can have sad endings, but you shouldn't have endings that make no sense and insult the intelligence of the viewers and the characters. I don't think this show will ever be revisited and seen as a good show. Anyone watching a "sci-fi" drama will want the science to make sense. Intelligent characters should act like intelligent characters. I probably will not trust this kind of Korean drama theme for a while. But, as the actress said, it is a first step.

The "space" part was the best actually, they really did well with the environment.

But the issue was the story and she was wrong, it wasn't complicated, it was stupid.

Thank you for sharing!!

To your last paragraph:
I guess every country and every system is different and will also thrive on different things and it’s not a “one size fits all” type of system or situation 😅 I say this because in comparison, for C-Ent. and C-Dramas, a 2-year (or even longer) pre-production timeline isn’t really an insane thing but quite normal, fully pre-produced dramas are normal, and depending on the nature of the drama, filming for 15-16 hours on end with lots of wire work and only a green (or blue) screen as the backdrop is very common.
I wonder how much drama ratings plays a part in the overall success of a Korean drama (it’s been years and years and years since I’ve been integrated to the Kdrama production system, so I can’t speak on it anymore as I’m not even sure of the accuracy on things I’ve picked up on in years previous anymore)— whether it’s a good financial number, sponsorships, or viewer feedback (i.e. ratings) 🤔

15 hours in a day is just far too much. I know they do that all the time, but it's just not a fair priority. You shouldn't have to "milk" human beings of their energy that much to make a movie.

Happy Friday, Beanies! Another fruitful week for LYN, full of news and updates: new ADWAD trailer (so much to say here!), air date (May 1st), trailer and Ep0 of THE TRUTH S3, announcement of MELODY JOURNEY S2 (yay!), more epic “runway” moments and, of course, new episode of THE TREASURED VOICE. Speaking of – Ep1 just got subbed! Didn't expect it to happen this soon, but no complaints here, it was a great watch. Join the fun, here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoEt2dy1kfg&t=6156s

And another angle solo focus fancam of last week's performance – extra digging gave me an official English title “A little less talent” for the song, so we'll go with it from now on. Btw, those pretty tears? Turns out it was Ning-ge flexing his acting chops per ZBC's request:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mRabcoz0kQ

Also a tiny singing snippet from last week – Yuning, Huangzi Hongfan and Yan Kun's collective struggle with another team's song - LIBI's viral hit “Jumping machine”. Gotta say, Huangzi slayed that chorus, while Yuning and YK nearly choked on madly fast paced verses, poor things)))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd93sSqIq_M

Actually Yuning tried to cover it solo in his livestream last month, which didn't go smoothly either. Guess even his insane lung capacity has its limits)))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjHVpYibzW4

Just when I thought I'm done with surprises for now, he dumped on me another single – tribute song for Beijing International Film Festival 15th Anniversary this year “The never-ending confession”. And he's gonna perform it tomorrow on closing ceremony, can't wait! Quite nice ballad, not entirely to my tastes, but better than most of this genre:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXXdsmrPutY

Lyrics are very poignant and beautiful tho:
https://x.com/AJLYN456/status/1915626228423496178

THE TREASURED VOICE Ep2 is here with a new stage for Yuning, once again a romantic duo with pretty lady (seems like they're intentionally milking this shipping wars angle of him with girls lol). This time his partner is Yao Xiaotang and they're covering Douyin viral hit “Seat”, not sure about original artist – show used Cheng Huan's version as reference, but it's not 100% clear. It's a whiny angsty post-breakup ballad from the heartbroken side who hasn't yet moved on and laments the fact that their ex already did, hence “replaced seat” meaning of the title. Yuning here kinda takes a back seat himself (lol, I had to!), letting YXT to lead song for the most part, but sounds great regardless. And I love his hair here, it has this faux-effortless sultry messiness to it)))

Since this was week was so hyped, it's only fair to finish on an energetic note, which Yuning's right-before-debut era microwave quality cover of Fitz and the Tantrums' “HandClap”. His English in it... well, he tried his best, but the voice and vibe are impeccable. Esp him starting to laugh after choking on words repeatedly))) I do wonder how much he understood what he was singing about, heh. You're clearly underestimating the range of your clapping opportunities here, ge... Like wanting to smack me for this comment^^

Scaredy cat Ning-ge did his best to finish the task – did I just hear him hum famous MISSION IMPOSSIBLE theme? Lol!

Longer one from rehearsal, interview, recording of promo and actual episode. Trivia here is that Yuning and Bichen filmed a funny spoiler of their song, but that video didn't to very well (only 3rd place) among other teams ones, so ever the competitive Yuning vowed to use his own expensive af filming equipment for this task next time, latest iPhone lame camera be damned. 1. Backflips over Melody Journey S2. Any air date announced?

2. "A Little Less Talent" duet, that's two emotive voices there and maybe it is just me, but there's something about her voice that LYN really digs. It's such a lovely duet.

3. Huangzi Hongfan -- I owe you for introducing this vocalist to me through Melody Journey and your DB posts. Guy has such a great voice, so much control over his voice, and terrific range. He's so young (and a little goofy), but what potential for a remarkable career.

4. '50s sunglasses, he wears them well. And did I catch puppy, is it Daimi?

You’ve described Huang Zi Hong Fan so well! I’m glad he was able to make a successful comeback:
Long story short— he and 3 others, all professionally trained— entered a singing competition that allowed them to enter showbiz, but then 2 of them got caught in a scandal wherein it was found out they cheated on their gaokao (Chinese equivalent of university entrance exams… often referred to as the hardest exam to take worldwide) and for a time, all 4 of them were cancelled. Later on Huang Zi Hong Fan and another — Shi Kai— made a quiet comeback and the former has been flourishing, but the latter has been caught in his own scandal lately, and it’s being reported that his footage from his resident appearance on a variety show has been edited out as of late

I think every entertainment industry in every part of the world— Kore, China, Hong Kong, Hollywood, etc., etc.— has a dark side that we all can pick apart and don’t agree with,
E.g. Korea’s love and obsession over youth (having a tv show with participants as young as 5-years-old?? Gross), China’s quick cancel culture generation that doesn’t offer much apologies even after being proven wrong by its own high regulation government and killing someone’s career, etc.

Choose your own evil, I guess 😮‍💨

1. Not yet, but likely second half of the year. Yuning, Joker Xue, Huangzi and Shan Yichun were personally promoting sequel in announcement video, so I expect them to return as regular cast.

2. He certainly does, these 2 never miss the mark together.

3. Thanks for context, @nessa! Ouch, how unfortunate for him, glad he was able to bounce back, his skills are too good to be wasted in obscurity.

4. Where exactly was puppy? Daimi usually follows him everywhere - from filming sets to recording studios. There were some (belonging to crew members, I guess) dogs on THE TRUTH set as well, all rather smitten with him^^

I'm going to be sad if there's no Joker Xue and Liu Duan Duan. Of the grouping from S1, Duan Duan impressed me as the most theatric, which I suppose makes sense since he's got the most relevant experience. There is this rumor about him possibly doing a buddy cop drama with TJC (oh!), but it's not even at confirmation stage yet. If anyone knows what the man is busy with nowadays, feel free to enlighten us!

No problem!! @gikata
Yes, as much as I think it’s suffocating at times, I’m glad that the Chinese government took the time to crack down on the C-Ent. industry to bring about more regulations so that the artists can now have more of an equal chance to come back when something happens to them —even when they did nothing wrong—just because of their association with those who actually did wrong. There’s too many really talented artists in C-Ent. that have been implicated and hurt by the actions of another and their careers have never been the same even after their comeback

Just asking ... for the sake of discussion ... what do you think about limiting teenagers in entertainment industry to 18 and over? This is somewhat impractical I guess, but a lot of damage could be avoided if their was an industry-wide trend, especially if it is codified.

https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20241025-should-there-be-a-ban-on-teenage-popstars

1

@cliosservant1846

Inherently, I don’t think there’s a problem with underaged talent— what I think is problematic is the system:
There needs to be more regulations and laws in place, there needs to be more responsible adults present and involved, there needs to be a limit on the activities that the young adults are involved in and more overseeing of their audience base as well. I see celebs who started out as young talents, who were also placed in not-so-great environments Disney Channel — Hilary Duff, Brenda Song, Selena Gomez, the Sprouse Twins— but seemed to have made it out okay, and I’d like to believe that it’s because they had good people around them. The system— simply made of people (like how you and I are also people), who have control over things— needs to be changed and to do better. Be more proactive in putting protections in place, and maybe then, they will stop being shocked and surprised when it’s too late because something has happened to someone

2

For starters, the insane working hours could be eased down. To give their souls time to heal every day, they should have the old Danish political slogan;
8 Hours' Work
8 Hours' Freedom
8 Hours' Rest
Just for starters, getting enough sleep and some time to just be yourself should make it much more possible to have a good mental health.

3

@ceciliedk

I agree! Especially the part about giving them the time and space—and enough of it— to be themselves and for their souls to heal. Away from cameras, away from staff, away from production, away from managers, etc.

3

@nessa
Well stated. Honestly, it seems impractical as 18 is an arbitrary number.

When I think about the child stars of yesteryear, their parents were often fully involved in their professional careers and decisions made for the actors were often influenced by the parent/guardian. Sometimes that worked, sometimes not.

I think the entertainment industry has matured a lot in the last century. But fame is still fame, and like power, it corrupts. Having a supportive team of professionals, experienced, eyes wide open seems to be pretty important nowadays days.

4

Thank you Gikata. I learn so many new things from you each week.

The "faux-effortless sultry messiness" is such a perfect description. 😂

I loved his version of the Handclap. You are so right, the voice and vibe are indeed impeccable. 👌🤟

Flower Fairy got him teased a lot by fans because OG runway styling of this outfit did NOT include an inner shirt, relying entirely on flowers to cover all, ahem, bases. That wouldn't work for variety show, ofc, but he could've still tried for a photoshoot at least... Now THAT would be truly divine image! In our dreams, ahaha^^

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

I am on leave until the sixth of May! Celebrations start tomorrow in the city with my friend’s birthday lunch and shopping all together afterwards. I plan to treat myself to snacks to accompany the many K-dramas, movies and books I hope to consume during my holidays! 🍪🍪🍪

Ironically, holidays are a source of stress nowadays. I got carried away by real life and now I still need to plan my July vacation. Another friend suggested an impromptu August vacation as well, but fortunately she insisted on planning that one and she is excellent at it. 📅📅📅

But I am getting ahead of myself, first I need to prepare everything for tomorrow!🎒👝💰

Thanks to everyone who recommended One Day Off. I really needed something brief to watch to calm down when things are stressful. It's such a nice show. My partner has this ambition for us to go to Jeju and I wasn't sure that was something I wanted to do. I really want to go now, because of the episode with the bakeries. I need to start saving money and working on my walking stamina, since his idea is to walk around the island. (Wouldn't that be amazing?)
I'm trying not to be anxious about whether the current policies will stop us from traveling.

We had one hotel in Jeju. I advice you to choose different hotels on different sides of the island to limit your time on the road.

Rent a car in Jeju. We did not, and were dependent on the bus system. While it worked, it was limiting.
Also, take into account that in Jeju almost everything is monetised. The "tea plantation" is a glorified shop. The beautiful lava cliff needs an entry fee.
The island is very beautiful, but the vibe is different from the rest of Korea.

I’m grinding through Lawless Lawyer (episode 7 right now), and even if it’s not the greatest K-drama, I’m hooked because the leads are awesome and it’s scarily similar to what’s going down today. The show dives into this nasty world where judges are in bed with the mafia, bending the law for personal financial gain and even placing mobsters into top government jobs. It’s like watching a mirror of real life! In the U.S., you’ve got judges tossing out what people voted for, and in Romania, it’s just as bad. Just look at what happened today, April 25, 2025. A Ploiești appeals court judge tried to push back against the Constitutional Court’s shady move to cancel the 2024 presidential election—where nationalist Călin Georgescu was leading—claiming it was a power grab over “foreign interference” nonsense, without showing any evidence, consistent with the Venice Commission ruling (Council of Europe). But the Supreme Court? They crushed that challenge in a five-minute rushed session, no debate, no nothing. Pure anti-democratic nonsense that we should have seen only in fiction.

I never managed to finished Lawless Lawyer. Awesome leads… just so much in that drama that irritated me!

Here in the UK, we’ve got judges encouraging people to torment an already tormented minority a little more (as if they didn’t already have enough of it). This is scary that we can pass anything as law in the sale of lawfulness 🤷🏻‍♀️ But truly, laws are made by people and people are unfortunately the weakness of any law-making system

I couldn't finish it also, I ff the last half because I was tired of the bad script and even acting. Mostly, I got fed up with overused Choi Min-soo's tongue in cheek action and accent (his korean is different than normal korean I am used to, probably this is the way they talk in that part of Korea).
"we’ve got judges encouraging people to torment an already tormented minority a little more" Are you referring to the recent UK Supreme Court decision?

I assume it is about that recent decision.
I really don't want to escalate this any further with you since I really like you. But I am seeing this exactly the opposite. That "tormented minority" is not as helpless as you think, it has immense power and has been enforcing through its political, media and judicial kabal its will over the overwhelming majority all over the world. I see the decision as finally getting a win in this fight with the law, corrupt judges and lawmakers. And a win for real women, the forgotten minority in this whole ordeal.

PSA for C-drama watchers here:

iQiYi is currently having a 40% off sale for subscriptions (at least in my region, it is)!! Definitely take a look if you’re interested!! 😊 Today is the LAST DAY!

Another PSA:
Apparently, iQiYi bought the rights to the OG Chinese version of Scarlet Heart. I saw it listed when in was searching for another drama haha

Hatch day in the nest box probably will be Thursday, First of May, 13 days after the last egg was layed. Last year they all hatched on the 2nd of May - after 13 days.

Beanies!
This is not drama related (i’ve just finished watching Kairos and I found nothing can come up to the level of realistic genius of Shin Sung-rok dropping off a balcony like a bag of potatoes - so don’t know what to watch to match this drama now 🤷🏻‍♀️ any tips?) but this is a humble request.

I’m looking for advanced readers for the first book of my fantasy saga. In a sentence: Imagine a journey into a magical and chaotic world, but your sole companions are an owl mad for rodent snacks, a clairvoyant with raging ADHD, and a purple Shadow that comments on everything you do.

So, if this is your vibe & if you’d like to read a book in English for free, let me know. I don’t want to spam the comment section too much, so I’ll stop here.

i’d be very grateful for a nice review or even some noise (like sharing you’ve read the book on social media for example) if you’ve enjoyed the book.

This is mostly to help reach the right audience & launch smoothly.

I'd like to read it - but I don't know what age your target audience is - maybe someone around twenty is more like it, and if so, I have someone I could ask. Or maybe you have enough readers now.

Awesome, thank you!

It's suitable for young adults (in terms of: no s3x, no cursing, no trauma) and also for older adults (who are happy for a cosy, fun read - because it's NOT about following the emotions turmoils of a 12 year-old)

I would most definitely welcome my favourite egg hatcher, language enthusiast, and serial knitter of awesomeness :) And you're not ridiculously far from me, so I'd get the publisher to send you a physical book when they're out of the press :)

(going to continue this conversation on fb messenger)
