News bites: April 6, 2025

Lee Jae-wook

  • Lee Jae-wook (The Impossible Heir) has been cast in a new fantasy horror and black comedy on Netflix called Honey Jar Project (roughly translated, working title), becoming a part-timer whose job presumably goes terribly wrong. The 8-episode series is planning to soon start filming, with filmmaker Kim Da-min (FAQ) attached to direct. [Ilgan Sports, Newsen]

  • Myung Se-bin (Missing Crown Prince) and Cha Kang-yoon (The Art of Negotiation, Resident Playbook) have been cast as wife and son – respectively – to Ryu Seung-ryong (Chicken Nugget) in JTBC’s The Story of Seoul Home Owner and Corporate Director Mr. Kim (roughly translated). The slice-of-life office comedy is expected to broadcast later this year, with PD Jo Hyun-tak (The Atypical Family, SKY Castle) at the helm.[JTBC]
  • Noh Sang-hyun (Pachinko 2) and Gong Seung-yeon (Karma) are reviewing offers for MBC’s 21st Century Prince’s Wife, potentially joining IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines) and Byun Woo-seok (Lovely Runner) in the lineup. The fantasy romance has PD Park Joon-hwa (Love Your Enemy, Alchemy of Souls) directing with scripts by Yoo Ah-in (MBC’s 2022 writing contest winner). [Ilgan Sports, Osen]

Gong Seung-yeon, Noh Sang-hyun

  • Preparations have begun on SBS for a new season of the legal drama Good Partner, calling on our divorce attorney heroines Jang Nara and Nam Ji-hyun to reprise their roles in the second installment. With both actors currently in talks, production for Season 2 is in the early stages and is aiming to start filming this autumn. [JTBC]
  • In the meantime, tvN is counting down to Resident Playbook’s premiere, putting Go Yoon-jung (Death’s Game), Shin Shi-ah (The Witch: Part 2), Kang Yoo-seok (When Life Gives You Tangerines), Han Ye-ji, and Jung Joon-won (A Model Family) on doctor duty in the latest teaser and stills. The medical spin-off series will be launching on April 12 this week. [10 Asia, MBC]

You had me at Lee Jae-wook in something besides The Impossible Heir! He is so talented and I can’t wait to get him back on my screen in something worthy of him.

I am still low-key traumatized by Noh Sang-hyun in THAT ONE episode of Pachinko season 2 (iykyk) so it would be great to see him in something else. Maybe I should cleanse my palette with Soundtrack #2 in the meantime? Also, I didn’t realize this was a fantasy romance, I just thought it was sort of a parallel universe situation, but interested!

A second season of Good Partner isn't really necessary, but I'm certainly excited for it, and you can bet that I'll be on the front row when it arrives. I trust the writer on this one.

Excited for Resident Playbook!

1. I like my comedies more than my coffee to be black. Hopefully this fantasy will be as big a hit as the last Netflix drama of Lee Jae-wook. Hwaiting!!

2. Does Ryu Seung-ryong's company deal in chicken or spies. *Cough* Asking for a friend. *cough* I'm happy with either or none. 😂

3. Ah! Secondary leads with their own loveline are always welcome.

4. Waaa!! 😱 So now we will have multiple season legal K-dramas as well. ⚖ 😂

5. These baby doctors have a lot of growing up to do themselves. 🙃😂 Luckily the have some great mentors.

Please let them find a way to shorten this title👉🏾The Story of Seoul Home Owner and Corporate Director Mr. Kim. Initially I thought the title reflected the name of the company they all worked for but now I think it’s going to be a drama about Mr Kim a man who can afford to own a home in the country’s capital and his many adventures at work.

I wonder if other dramas started out with names like a drama pitch.
Misaeng: incomplete life (Rookie who can’t afford a suit applies Go strategy in the workplace and wins)
Hospital Playlist (5 university band members decide to keep the band alive after graduation by playing doctors during the day to pay their bills)

Looking forward to Resident playbook finally dropping this weekend and 21st Century Princes wife whenever that appears. I do think it’s going to be the closest we will get the long promised Princess hours remake.

It seems likely they'll change the name. Seeing how often title changes happen in Dramaland, and given how much of a placeholder vibe this one has, I'm thinking they will.

‘Placeholder vibe’ 🤣🤣🤣 I love this phrasing. I think there are whole dramas that give off a ‘placeholder vibe’ e.g. the drama they show in the trailers is completely different and often better than the drama that gets released.

1) I don't really do horror...

3) Noh Sang-hyun needs a main role! Not a second one!

4) I wonder how it will work, they're not in the same compagny anymore. If they could do without PO, it will be better.

5) We heard about it for so long, the expectations are high...

I wonder why ENA doesn't give more news about Tastefully Yours, it will air in May.

Not the biggest fan of fantasy but I am a huge fan of Noh Sang-hyun so I might check out 21st Century Prince’s Wife when it airs.

Was the first season of Good Partner any good? Is it worth another season? Beanies who've watched it, please let me know

I thought it was great! It really felt like the writer knew where they were going the whole time, which I really appreciated. And it was procedural enough with a case-of-the-week format that I think they could do a second season and not have it completely fall flat. Also, there was a potential romantic element that they teased but didn’t develop, so I’d be excited to see if they do something with that!

Sounds promising. I'll try the first episode sometime and see if it takes.

Thank you! ❤️
