I remember there was a scene where the girl wanted to give money to her boyfriend, telling him to go to law school. The guy refused, then the girl asked him to marry her. Some additional details: As far as I remember, the male lead was a former prisoner, the ending was quite heartbreaking, and this K-drama had a super high user rating on the wiki sites.
AND…
For the life of me I can’t remember the name of this drama. It’s set in Joseon, and there’s either a noblewoman, or princess-type character. The woman likes a certain nobleman, and wants to marry him. But he likes another girl, and the girl likes him to. Here’s where it gets tricky. Remember in My Dearest when Gil-chae finds her man at that cottage without his memory and she gives him the silver rings? Okay, so in the drama I’m talking about, there is a scene towards the end where the woman decides to go bring the nobleman back (either the war was over or something changed so he didn’t need to stay there). But when she gets there, she finds him with the girl he loved who had made it there maybe a day before her. In an act of rage, she sets the hut on fire. The man comes running out, but he realizes that the girl can’t come out so he goes back in and dies with her in the fire.

Could the second one be Black Knight: The Man Who Guards Me with Kim Rae-Won and Shin Se-Kyung?

I second that. I admit that I was lost until the mention of the burning hut.
In retrospect, the drama would have been a lot more interesting if it centered on the second female protagonist Sharon/Seo-rin, and it portrayed her redemption in which she learned to let go of her lifelong grudge toward Hye-ra and her possessiveness toward Su-ho, and she could finally live out her life like a mere mortal.

The first one sounds like The Good Bad Mother possibly? ML wasn't a former prisoner unless you count being locked up by his abusive mother (which, fair), but he was living with his girlfriend while studying for the bar exam and they had lots of cute scenes where he would tell her his scores at all the different stages. I'm also pretty sure that it had excellent ratings, so could be.

I would think if it were TGBM, the viewer would have remembered what happened to the ML and how it affected his relationship with his mother. That was far and away the most prominent feature of the drama. But I don't have an alternate suggestion. Neither of the two dramas described here sound familiar to me.
