Go Min-shi serves Kang Haneul humble pie in Tastefully Yours
by solstices
Cooking up a full-course dinner from the hors d’oeuvre of a wonky business partnership to the dessert of blossoming feelings, ENA’s about to dish up a delectable rom-com in the form of Tastefully Yours. With a sprinkle of culinary competition, a dash of petty bickering, and a garnish of fish-out-of-water antics to top it all off, it’s a recipe fit for a gourmand.
As the talented chef Mo Yeon-joo — played by Go Min-shi (The Frog) — whips up an array of dishes that surely taste as impeccable as they look, our hero Kang Haneul (Squid Game 2) watches in a daze, looking like he’s about two seconds away from salivating. He’s the chaebol heir Han Beom-woo, who’s had everything served to him on a silver platter until his fine dining restaurant got dealt the most devastating blow — it’s only been awarded one single star. Naturally, that means Beom-woo is on a quest to sniff out the most impressive recipes with which to boost his star rating, and his search has brought him to Yeon-joo’s quaint restaurant in Jeonju.
Beom-woo has all the makings of a pampered rich kid, and so he turns up his nose at how Yeon-joo’s “playing at fine dining,” when she’s so far out of Seoul. But Yeon-joo is no country bumpkin, and she retaliates by ripping up Beom-woo’s business contract right in his face, leaving him sputtering. Ha. Yeon-joo is every bit a spitfire, and she’s not about to let Beom-woo acquire her restaurant. Or at least, not without putting Beom-woo through the wringer first, because Yeon-joo offers to reconsider if he agrees to work at her restaurant. Cue Beom-woo snorting and scrunching up his face at the absurd notion. “Me? Work?” says the guy who’s probably never worked a day in his life.
With that, our corporate bigwig finds himself foraging in the mountains and collapsing into bed after a long day of toiling away. But never fear, Beom-woo’s not alone — he’s joined by Kim Shin-rok (Undercover High School) as ~the hippie ahjumma~ and his fellow employee Jin Myung-sook, who introduces herself with a saucy wink. “Call me noona,” trills Myung-sook. Beom-woo, looking straight into the camera, enunciating each syllable through a forced smile: “Noo-na.” LOL.
Hilariously, Beom-woo maintains his impeccably coiffed hairdo even as he trades his sharp suit for a comfortable hoodie, making for a sharp contrast with Yoo Soo-bin (The Deal) as the down-to-earth Shin Chun-seung. Casual and friendly, Chun-seung quickly takes to calling Beom-woo “hyung,” much to the latter’s bewilderment. “Since when am I your hyung?” asks Beom-woo over their lunch break. “Sharing a meal together basically means we’re like family now,” replies Chun-seung jovially.
As for our big boss, Beom-woo winds up at loggerheads with Yeon-joo more often than not. Still, working alongside each other inevitably brings them closer together. Before long, there’s tension simmering between them, and it’s very much of the romantic flavor. Stuck under a tiny bus stop on a rainy night, Yeon-joo pulls Beom-woo closer — and it fries his braincells. “Pretty,” Beom-woo can’t help but blurt out. Cut to: “Heart-fluttering? Me, having my heart flutter? Ha, please,” scoffs Beom-woo. Sure, keep telling yourself that, buddy.
With his eyes set on the prize that is Yeon-joo’s exquisite recipes, Beom-woo just has to hold out for a month of employment. There’s pressure from all ends, not least from his hyung Han Sun-woo — played by Bae Nara (Evilive), yay! — who’s sure to stir the pot by sheer virtue of his charismatic ambition. In this battle of sibling rivalry, Beom-woo needs all the help he can get to one-up his hyung. But Yeon-joo would sooner grill Beom-woo than let him off easy. “Be honest,” Yeon-joo challenges, narrowing her eyes at Beom-woo. “What’s the reason behind you coming here?” Spicy… but we also get a sweet scene of Yeon-joo falling asleep on Beom-woo’s shoulder. Except Beom-woo immediately spoils the moment by commenting on Yeon-joo’s snoring. Looks like they’re in for a bumpy ride ahead…
Helmed by PD Park Dan-hee (Weak Hero Class 1) with scripts by Jung Su-yoon (Hope or Dope), Tastefully Yours is slated to premiere on May 12.

@solstices wow, that was an amazing write up for a preview! Your writing wrung every last bit of info out of it and was arguably more interesting.
I am not sure how I missed the news on this one. I will give it a try but the chaebol out of water trend doesn’t immediately pique my interest.
I am glad for ENA that they are getting decent shows, ratings, and stars. They certainly are on an upward trajectory unlike TVN. I wonder how this will compare to the potato show?

I am anticipating this with eagerness but -- how could they pair this acting GOD with ... Go Min Shi? I see zero chemistry on screen.
