Undercover High School: Episodes 7-8
by quirkycase
Our leads team up for some spying and mystery solving, and our intrepid temp teacher proves more of an asset than expected. But our duo discovers some crucial, unsettling information that makes the mission all the more dangerous. Add to that a couple of side quests, and it’s a busy week for everyone.
EPISODES 7-8
A lot happens this week compared to the more leisurely pace of last week’s episodes. We have about three missions going on at once, so this week is more action and less comedy focused. Soo-ah dives into the mission full force this week and gets her first chance to help behind the scenes by insisting on a vote for the male model student for the school (to prevent the vice principal from picking an affluent student)… then accidentally votes for the wrong kid. Hae-sung wins anyway by a single vote, so her chaos vote doesn’t tip the scales, and he’s now able to attend the schmoozing event.
The team has analyzed a recording of the clock playing a piano duet version of the school anthem – Hae-sung’s dad’s notes helped him unlock that clue – so they reason they’ll need to play that same song on the piano in Myung-joo’s office. Except none of them can play piano. Soo-ah assures them she can help Hae-sung learn it. Right up until Hae-sung warns her that if she gets caught, she’ll likely be fired. Soo-ah is immediately like, never mind I’m out. Ha. Soo-ah only agrees when Seok-ho calls her an “honorary agent” and agrees to sign a contract that she’ll have government support to become a full-time teacher if the mission is a success.
Hae-sung doesn’t want her to put herself at risk, but it’s a risk Soo-ah is willing to take. For her, becoming a full-time teacher means fulfilling her promise to her student who was framed for cheating and kicked out. She promised to become a full-time teacher and gain the power to help her students.
Honorary agent Soo-ah takes her new role seriously. She gets them a book with the principal’s (Myung-joo’s minion who does her dirty work) fingerprint, so they can lift it to use to open Myung-joo’s office. Soo-ah also teaches Hae-sung the song they’ll need to play on piano, and he in turn teaches her some self-defense moves. The closeness starts getting to Hae-sung, who finds himself noticing she’s purty.
In other news, the Quiznos office has run its course, so they begin convening at the NIS office again. They get permission to bring Soo-ah in as a guest to formulate their plan for infiltrating the school and breaking into Myung-joo’s office during the upcoming schmoozing event.
While Myung-joo and the richest parents have an exclusive party within the party to scheme for their kids to take over the world, the NIS team causes a blackout and distraction so Hae-sung and Soo-ah can sneak to the office. Hae-sung impressively takes out several guards while actively protecting Soo-ah, and she gets her own chance to use her self-defense moves and the sedative syringe Hae-sung gave her to take out a couple men herself.
They make it to the piano for a high-stakes duet… and nothing happens, likely because one of the keys doesn’t work. But Hae-sung finds something on Myung-joo’s computer while deleting the log: the entire mission plan, including his personnel record and their plan to break into her office. He realizes she’s been in control of this mission the whole time with the help of a mole in the NIS. Hae-sung is devastated that he can no longer trust his team. Only they and the director know about the mission.
While Hae-sung goes radio silent on his team and works on the mole angle, Soo-ah works on the piano clues and comes through again. She figures out that the notes played by the broken key spell out a secret message based on the lyrics of the song: “The bead shall shine like gold in the red sun.”
Soo-ah is certainly earning her keep as an honorary agent and as a friend. She’s the only one Hae-sung can trust now, and she comforts him and assures him he’s not alone; she’ll help him find that mole. Her enthusiasm may overshoot her ability there, but she does make him feel better. Hae-sung then shocks her by divulging that he’s her crush from elementary school and that they live right across from each other.
Adding to their workload, Soo-ah finds a business card one of the council kids dropped. It has a link to a site showing all the bought results for the rich kids: first place spots for contests that haven’t happened yet, future awards and school rankings, etc. Myung-joo, omniscient as ever, finds out Soo-ah found the card immediately and threatens her. Soo-ah won’t be cowed, though, and goes to Hae-sung for help. He already has his plate full, but he can’t stand watching Yoo-jung study full of hope for a contest she has no chance of winning despite her stellar grades.
Soo-ah may have gumption, but her techniques aren’t quite there yet. Myung-joo deletes the link, knowing it’s been discovered by the undesirables, and Soo-ah didn’t get screenshots. Hae-sung, on the other hand, put a tracker on Myung-joo’s car and a bug under the table for her meeting with a parent. He hears them talking about teaching Soo-ah a lesson to deter her. And based on the way she mercilessly smacked a rude student around, Myung-joo’s lessons are best avoided.
Her mothering techniques are no better. When Myung-joo learns Ye-na has a scar on her wrist from self-harm, she berates Ye-na for how embarrassing it’d be if someone found out. She then slashes herself with a steak knife at dinner and tells Ye-na that now they’re even and can move on since resistance is futile. Ye-na is horrified to learn her mom has been buying Ye-na’s grades while an unsuspecting Ye-na studied herself to death, which Myung-joo encouraged to sell the lie. Ye-na reaches her limit and finally challenges her mom. She goes to see Yoo-jung, despite their fight, and the kindness of Yoo-jung and her mom overwhelms her.
Meanwhile, Hae-sung brings what he has so far on Myung-joo buying her education city through falsifying kids’ grades to the NIS, but Seok-ho is avidly against him going further. Then the Director orders them to stop the mission altogether. Their reactions make Heae-sung suspect one of them is the mole, so of course, he’s not about to stop. Instead, he and Soo-ah go rogue, which may not have been the safest decision. We end the week with Soo-ah finding a masked intruder inside Hae-sung’s house. Hae-sung arrives home to find her unconscious and bleeding on the floor (which took brightening the screen to see because this scene is SO DARK).
Well, that escalated quickly! I can only assume Myung-joo is responsible because that woman wastes no time taking out her enemies. I appreciate how truly unhinged and evil Myung-joo is as a villain. She’s truly threatening without feeling like a caricature, and her visible efforts at restraint when she’s angry make her more chilling. It’s feeling more like a showdown between Hae-sung and her now, which raises the stakes. These episodes felt like they were pushing Seok-ho as the potential mole, and that makes me think it’s a red herring. The director would make sense since he was the one to pose this mission for Hae-sung in the first place. Unless there’s someone higher up than him pulling the strings, he seems like the most likely candidate.
I fully expect Soo-ah will pull through, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Hae-sung stops letting her in on the mission now. He was already worried about her safety, and a civilian almost dying due to assisting a mission has to be a red flag, even if you don’t have a crush on them. But now that Soo-ah is on Myung-joo’s radar, she (and everyone else) will probably be in danger going forward regardless.

Still my favourite weekender and I guess I'll have to take my eyes off the ratings in order for me to fully concentrate without worries.
An eventful week just as you said, it was packed. So my highlights:
1. Yu-jeong finally slapping the senses into Ye-na, I know everyone sees your pain but the last thing you should do is to pour it on others who are merely trying to help. So thank you for the slap.
2. Since when did the 2nd Leads get to earn the swooniest and funniest kisses before the MLs? First the sneeze kiss now the CCTV kiss and I'm all in for it.😁
3. Hae-seong finally introducing himself properly. Normal k-drama style would have been to drop hints here and there for Su-A to catch but come on, if you like her, introduce yourself properly and get the free pass childhood tropes give to romance. So, thank you for that.
2025 started with promising dramas like this and I hope more comes.

It was a refreshing set of episodes with Yu-jeong giving Yena the slap she not only deserved, but needed. I was happily shocked that Hae-seong just casually told Soo-ah that they were childhood friends. Made total sense and there was no reason to hide it. The two were already so cute together, and having it out in the open just added another layer of cuteness and made them more comfortable with leaning on each other.

💯 This drama is best watched with eyes closed at the ratings. 🙈
If I didn't already like Yu-jeong that unhesitant slap definitely made me a fan. It was a cool moment and hopefully it did knock some sense into Ye-na. I know she is a high-schooler and has too much on her plate to process but still it was a wake up call Ye-na needed.

The storyline takes turns in every corner and is still enjoyable for me. I love that Haejong and Sua support each other in their investigation. I have MANY favorite scenes this week! The top is that the casual chat of Haejong reveals their childhoold relationship with Sua, the smiles, and the awkward wave hands that follow. Love it - not dragging the plotline and not overly dramatic reveals. It is just in a casual chat on their way home from restaurant.
Thanks Writernim to cut unnecessary dragging of childhood connection trope. The show has many plots to cover (missing dad, evil Chairwoman, gold treasure hunt, student's score markups scandal, anything else?), so the story can move on. I want Haesong and Sua dating era please!
Hope the show sticks to its fun and thrilling storyline till the end!!

Fun and thrills is what we are here for!! 🫰🏻 If the drama can truly maintain that vibe till the end, that will make the drama a near classic or at the very least eminently rewatchable. 😂

The plot of drama is absolutely cuckoo banana pants, but somehow it still works, which I credit to the actors. Where do I start.... The ONLY time they can get into the Director's office is during an crowded event staffed by numerous security guards?! Common South Korean NIS, you are better than this! If Hae-sung is supposed to be an undercover high school student, maybe don't dress him up like James Bond! Your put the link to your secret plan to rig the system for the 1% on a physical business card?! You guys haven't hear of Whatsapp?! The Director knows they are going to break into her office but leaves the evidence that she knows of this plan on her desk top?! The top 1% of society is cahoots to rig the system in favor of the top 1%?! Ok, that actually makes sense.
Ridiculous plot, but I'm still here for it....

They really should be using Signal.
When i saw the link, I wondered by they didn't use a QR code for convenience and aesthetics (and why would the kid need the the business card?)
But maybe having it be a url that was a pain to type out is their "security", though nowadays you can use your phone's camera to pick up a printed url.

Not to mention this entire superfluous and gratuitous fight scene in front of the director's office. So a whole bunch of guards got knocked out and then what? Nothing.
And they know that unhinged chairwoman is going to teach the FL a lesson. They prepare insofar as to move their operations to ... the ML's known address? That's it? Not some hidden location with some serious safeguards in place? And she's allowed to move around all by herself as if no one was after her? What kind of sense does this make?
But like you, I am still here for it ...

But Martine, any FL with some self-respect knows that when a killer is out for you specifically, that's the time to go wandering alone in deserted areas at night. (preferably to inspect a large hole in the ground, am I right, "Destined With You"?)
And also, when you know that someone is specifically out to get some person (preferably the FL) it's time to NOT tell her, so she won't have to worry or take any sensible precautions.

Who knew I would find myself swooning over the OTP in this drama?? I absolutely love the leads and each of their interactions. The show continues to set the bar high for swoony romance in the simplest moments.
I love him. I love her a little more. I love them together. I love them by themselves. I love their dance fight. I love them work together. I love their flirty-ness. I love them talking to each other. U love hoe comfortable they are with each other. I love how they steal looks at each other.

Kinda surprised there are still 4 episodes left because it feels like we are literally at the climax of the story, so I'm curious to see if the drama has some more surprises in store.
Lots of romance this week too, sometimes in the most unexpected of places. Ye-na & Yoo-jung fight and make up, and then the drama decides to... play a love song?! Well, on that note, I will now be treating this as a romance (admittedly, my initial theory was that Ye-na had a secret crush on Yoo-jung and that's why she was keeping her around).
Everything with our leads continues to be a whole lot of fun, and their dynamic is an absolute joy to watch, and I really like how involved Soo-ah has gotten in everything. Her getting injured was slightly predictable, though I initially expected this to happen in the last 2 episodes, so we're ahead of schedule in that department. Also surprised at how quickly the childhood connection was resolved. Good communication skills are always gre

Whether it be Dongmin and Hae-sung, Ye-na and Yoojung, Senior Agent Ahn and Hae-sung, or our OTP.
And the best part for me? That the childhood connection reveal was so chill and replete with the easy familiarity that I have come to love between our OTP.❤❤
no grand BGM, no backlight glow, or rosy tint, no 12 diff camera angles.

I’m really hoping you’re right and Seok-ho isn’t the mole! I have a hard time he would do that except maybe if someone was threatening Yoo-jeong. But Hae-seong is like a son to him too. I think the director is fairly likely, but isn’t there that deputy guy too? The one who keeps sneaking around and being rude - he seems ambitious enough, nosy enough, and pointless enough as a character to be the betrayer for sure.
I love watching our leads catch more and more feelings for each other! Their expressions when they are around each other or thinking about the other are just adorable. Su-ah coming in hot with advice and empathy, Hae-seong retaliating with mischievous smiles and a dose of nostalgia! I don’t even mind the childhood connection here - it’s cute and I’m so glad he told her about it without much delay.
Lee Jun-ho is the teacher who has a crush on Su-ah, right? I knew her teacher friend probably didn’t have anything to do with the grade-fixing because she was encouraging Su-ah to look into it just in case, but the other guy has just been hovering in the back of this story for a while. Good on them for digging up the evidence they need, and now I just hope that the stabber didn’t take it all with them. You gotta take photos of these things people! I’m not worried for Su-ah at all - this isn’t that kind of show - and her hospital time will hopefully result in some confessions!

yeah, nothing like a near-death experience to push someone to confess. Not that these two seem likely to have an issue realizing they like each other, but with so few episodes left, you got to accelerate the process, especially since this isn't a romcom where they can devote all the remaining time to romance.

Yep, Lee Jun-ho is the math teacher who has a crush on
Hye-jinSu-ah. However, despite his commonly used namehe didn’t seem suspicious at all so far, did he?! I thought he was only hovering in the background because he likes her… Shocking reveal if he’s actually knowingly part of the baddie gang. ☹️ The intruder in Hae-seong’s home didn’t look like the director to me, either! 👀Yes, bring on the confessions! 🥰

I’m not sure that being involved in the grade-fixing makes him part of the full-on scheme - he could be desperate to become a full time teacher too, or they could have something on him, or he could reeeaaally need the money, etc. But I can’t imagine that he could be an unknowing accomplice, so he’s definitely at fault here. I’m hoping he doesn’t end up being super terrifying in a shocking turn, and actually was just hovering around because he likes Su-ah. They took care to remind us of that recently so it must have some story relevance. Now I’m trying to remember every time he’s been on screen but mostly just coming up with that time he helped her carry the boxes of records from the storage room… which is also where she found the evidence of the grade fixing. Hmm.

I adore every interaction between the leads... They are simply magical together. Their easy camaraderie, and the way she manages to elicit those beautiful smiles from him, no matter how grumpy he may be, is so cute.

Loved this set of episodes. Just squeeing through all the cute scenes. This series has been getting better each week, and now I'm just rewatching scenes until we get the next episode. I love how Hae-seong and Soo-ah look like they really like each other (not in a romantic sense) and they enjoy hanging out with each other.
I had been side-eying how the other NIS agents on Hae-seong's team seem to be contributing nothing, but they really brought it with their "acting" during the office break in. Complete with makjang violin music followed by a refrain of the soundtrack theme from that old school student- teacher romance drama.
I love how Hae-seong's shower scene was really just him being doused with water in a cold pool at a public bath house.
Jin Ki-joo is so adorable - adorably funny and adorably tough! Too bad that Soo-ah likes being a teacher, since she would make a really good NIS agent. I love how she cracked the piano mystery.

Even Yeong-hun (Bok-rae) noticed what’s going on with our main couple at that evening event. His knowing look was also very sweet. 🫰

Ahh these virginal males are a trip haha
Are we supposed to believe he, at 31, doesn't know why his body, heart, and mind is reacting to her the way it is? Haha
(I mean it's possible but for him, it seems unlikely haha)
But in other news, I did like the confrontation between Yu Jeong & Yena. I also liked that it was shown that Yu Jeong could be friendly with other people so contrary to what Yena may have believed, Yu Jeong doesn't have to put up with such treatment. I also liked Yena standing up for her friendship and reaching out first.
I liked Hae Seong revealing everything and her reaction haha ("that was alot of shocks back to back" haha)
I liked Hae Seong and Yu Jeong's moments.
Man, the actress playing the chairwoman seems like she's having such fun with the role. I don't even know how to describe her.

I’m going with “deliciously evil” hahaha! She is though! The way she revels in being so elitist, in looking down on everyone, on threatening people, on knocking them down a few pegs (often literally), it’s all like she’s savoring something delicious. I have a lot of fun watching her.

Thanks for the recap @quirkycase. I was a bit late in starting this and was perfectly happy waiting for it to appear in the evening on viki. . .until The Art of Negotiation was released much earlier in the day and I'm totally hooked on that one. I'll catch up my viewing time of this drama mid-week (it's a good thing I don't mind spoilers).
Meanwhile. . . “The bead shall shine like gold in the red sun.”. I've been convinced since the beginning that the OBSERVATORY was going to be key and with that final clue, I'm even more convinced. But, of course, I could be very wrong, lol.

oh Oh OH! I just had an epiphany!
“The bead shall shine like gold in the red sun.”
===================
Here's my pet theory:
(a) I was doing a cursory scan of that sentence when "red sun" jumped out at me -- the flag of Japan (land of the rising sun) is precisely that: a red sun on a white backdrop
(b) The last mystery can only be unlocked by time - all parties are actually biding their time. If Hae-sung's name means comet, it likely references some cosmic event/planetary alignment that happens only once every 22 years.
That would explain why they never tried to revive this 'gold bar" mission until NOW.
(c) Bead - no idea what that might refer to. But what jumps at me is: it shines LIKE gold, but is NOT gold. Likely hints to possibility that the cache will not be in the form of gold bars, but has likely been converted into something much smaller (the bead) which is equivalent in monetary value to the original gold bars (800 million)

You got me so intrigued. I have tried hard to cure myself from being a kdrama detective, but I am so weak at controlling my mind right now. I like where you are going but I would like add that in my searches the red sun in korean culture might mean sunset or sunrise. So I was thinking if it has to do with the way the sun shines at those times that can be seen from the observatory. I don't know how the sunlight is affected during a celestial event other than eclipse, although I think I might have seen it in other movies, but I believe an eclipse is out of question. I don't remember the scenes with his father but it could be a clue in what direction to look or where to look. We think that is the observatory but it can be that the dad could have changed the last clue and mislead them because he, as his son, was suspicious. The bead can be the actual treasure or another clue.

March 19, 2025 at 3:36 PM
I’m super bad at following the clues, so with all the talk about how SKJ’s eyes shine when the sunlight goes through them and this bead thing, the only thing I think of is “beady eyes” 😅. As per a Quora user, that expression can have neutral (not negative) implication for observation, alertness and curiosity. So I was thinking, will Haeseong solve the problem when looking at “the red sun” (a Japanese flag as @joanna suggested)?!

@claire2009
That could be it 🤣 I must confess, I lack your insights and poetry when it comes to eyes, I have a professional habit to observe the mouth mostly, which in his case, it can produce a variety of smiles that can be just as penetrative as his eyes. But reading your comment I thought if his beady eyes wil turn into Golden eye(s) when watching the sunset/sunrise. I would like to propose myself into researching that in person, it's a sacrifice I am willing to make...
Sure, it can be Japan that could have stollen it during their invasion, the chairwomen did praise their military efficiency. It is a spy drama after all and anything is possible. But it is a light one and I just don't see them taking more than a few harmless jabs at it. I think it deals more with the political and elite class enriching themselves off being that the high-school is, like I said before, a metaphor for how a nation is run.
I will take this opportunity to get your oppinion in another matter. The cousin is now nr.1 and that can only be possible if the chairwomen allowed it, right? Why would she? Unless her dad had something to do with it I just cannot seeven the reason. Her being nr. 1 just to manipulate whatever it's going on between the girls it's just too cheap to be used in an episode where the assigning the grades to whomever the chairwoman wants is the main focus. Could it be the uncle and not the director of the agency?

P.S. I know it is not the right thread, but it will take too much time to find, so I hope I am forgiven. I hope you watch WTIF, he was great in that role. The ending was not what I wanted but he made it to not care that much.

March 20, 2025 at 5:55 AM
@kodra Do you remember when Yena only got second place, the assistant told the chairwoman and she was surprised, right? So my guess is that they (the school board and chairwoman) mess up any competition's results, but not midterm or end of term exams? Do you remember Yoojeong told Haeseong she was preparing for some competition? Only then did he decide he would join Suah in uncovering the whole thing. He had refused to help Suah when she first asked him. But wait, I'll have to watch again to see what type of documents Suah and Haeseong are going through, because it looks like archive sorted by semester/school-year, not special competitions' results?!
Anyway, sadly to this point I must agree that the uncle and NIS director keep some secrets from Haesong and undercover team, the uncle may pass on information of the operation to the director and the director is the one meeting with chairwoman in the dark?!
Thank you for your recommendation of WTWIF. I will give it some thought 🫰

@claire2009
It always troubled me how come the daughter of the brother of the agent that went missing investigating the school got to be on the student council? Because we saw that the chairwomen made her daughter accept Haeseong and without it he couldn't be in it. It's not that she is not bright enough or that she was not worth it, because obviously she is, but that is not why the students are part of the student council. If he is the good guy, why would you let your daughter be in that school run by the people that killed your brother, right? Unless he is playing a double agent with the hope of releasing his brother, if he is kept by them. This is my wishful thinking that the father is alive, of course. Anyway, it doesn't matter because what I am relay looking forward is that damn kiss they stole from us in the last episode. 🤣

I don't know (yet) about the how, when and why, but I'm 💯% sure that ML's watch will play a role in solving this as well. As Healer's said, the night before he disappeared, Dad promised to take him to the observatory on his birthday. It was also written in the notebook - something like "tomorrow, take [son] to observatory" with large handwritten text and highlighted with stars.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is an observatory on the highschool campus.
I haven't kept track, but does Hae Seong have a birthday coming up?

I actually think the Director is the one in direct cahoots with Chairwoman, but his uncle Agent Ahn is complicit in *some* way.
Few episodes back, there was a lingering shot of old photo of the NIS agent trio - Director, Agent Ahn, and Haesung's dad who went missing. The key lies in the other 2 survivors in the photo.
My bet that it is not the annoyingly meddling underling. There was one scene where he asked whether the Director knew Hae-sung's dad went missing on the exact same mission 22 years ago.
The Director replied with a chilling non-sequitur to his curious minion: "Do you know why people drown in streams? Cos they thought it was real shallow until they stepped in...." Hmmmm

It took me a couple of years watching K-dramas to learn this - if there is a character w/out a defined purpose (such as the underling), then he is likely the bad guy. Plus, he's a very nosy guy - all of it in throw-away scenes compared to the music/camera pans with Team Leader Seok Ha.
So, my bet is also on the underling.

This couple is so adorable! I love every scene with them! I like their honesty, they don't hide anything from each other. He told her he was her childhood friend, there was a mole at NIS and the directrice knew she was investigating the past results. There was no hesitation and everytime it brought them closer. Hae-sung has a lot on his shoulders but he has Soo-ah who is the cutest and best support.
For the rest, it's still fun. I didn't really feel bad for the student being hit by Myung-joo. Maybe he won't hurt Yena anymore. Her mother is way enough.

I wonder when I last saw such empathy between two leading characters (maybe in Dr. Slump?): Su-ah being very perceptive of what was worrying Hae-song, and finding just the right words of encouragement. (“You are not alone. You’ll find out everyone is with you.” or “I’m sure you’ll find your dad”) While he was suddenly aware that his words about how she “has no idea or just didn’t care what’s happening in her classroom” might have hurt her - or even did her injustice. Or when he came to find her at school because he knew she’d be there, trying to find evidence against the chairwoman on her own. (And yes, he also knew that she wanted to hear that she looked beautiful in her evening dress! 😆)
It’s such a joy to watch! 🥹
The comedy is -of course- still on point! The self-defense lesson, the phone call (“… why did you lower your voice?” 🤣) and last but not least the dance fight and NIS agents’ distraction techniques (Yeong-hun’s eyes almost popped out then and there 👀🤣) being among my favorite scenes.
🤔 At this point, my only concern is why other dramas I’m watching are not as hilarious and swoony as this. 🫠 I am melting. And laughing. And kicking my feet! 😆 I admit I was hoping for The Magic of the 8th Episode, but I’m not mad that they’re taking their sweet time growing fonder of each other very naturally: they’re just too adorable! 🫰💖

I enjoy this show and I'm enjoying these recaps! Thanks.
I love it that Ye-na is growing as a character even though her mother is trying very hard to stop her. Yu-jeong is ready to be a spy, because she can see all the ways that Ye-na is hurting. Everyone else only sees her obnoxiousness and her stress when she comes in second. She also sees that Ye-na actually wants to be friends, which is why she ignored all the bullying stuff. I was not ready for the OST to play a love song when they finally resolved their fight, though.
Speaking of Ye-na's mother, what was up with that scene where Myeong-ju expresses her admiration for the brutal discipline of the Japanese army--to the Korean history teacher? Eh? EEEHH? What was that?!? OK, yes, she also beat a student, but that was in private.
Is Myeong-ju Hae-sung's mother, and is she imprisoning his beloved father in the basement of the school? I know that seems like a wild prediction, but I want to record it here just in case. That would explain a whole lot of plot--she could be blackmailing whoever the mole is because they want their agent back.
Or the father is the bad guy. The actor playing the flashback dad--Oh Eui-shik--is so extremely sweet looking, that would be very shocking.
I really like how the OTP characters smile at each other. It's one of the things that makes the show for me.

Oh, she's a descendant of the guy in the portrait? Good catch! If that's the case, she's a nearly perfect villain.
Do you know what I learned from watching k-dramas? Korea had a very low rate of literacy at the end of the Japanese occupation, but now has a literacy rate over 98%. Partly this was because they began to use Hangul more than Hanja, but partly it was because the Japanese suppressed Korean education. Here's the villain, espousing the idea that effort doesn't matter and privileged people deserve glory without working for it!

My read was also that she was his descendant. I think they have the same family name and she might have been introduced to us that way? In an NIS report or something? I don’t totally remember (that was ages ago) but I was not surprised that she idolized the imperial Japanese army given her ancestor’s leanings. It’s kind of fun that she is so against public education - it makes all of the viewers much more supportive of it!

LOVED how they totally underplayed the childhood connection trope! That's how you do it, ppl - casually, but still getting it in there! In terms of the original plot thread (if I can find it in the warm gooey chocolate that is Hae-sung's eyes and in the depths of Su-Ah's cutest dimples!), my prediction is that the Chairwoman has solved all 4 stories, but need Haesung to unlock something, because his father also found the gold and locked it away somewhere (leaving the clues that will eventually lead Haesung to solve it). This probably means the Director of NIS is her mole, since he would have encouraged the recruitment of Hae-sung into NIS. I am still 50-50 on whether the dad is alive..it seems impossible, but maybe the Chairwoman has kept him alive somewhere and would use that as the last leverage on Hae-sung. I do hope in the end, the Director is tried for reason, and his uncle can become the new Director, and Haesung gets a promotion! Su-ah will be the one to fully expose the GPA scandal and will become a full-time teacher at the school. And I need about 30 minutes of cutesy, coupley things they do in the last episode! :P

Thank you for the recap. 🏫🚌🎒👩🏫🕵️♂️
If anyone thought the drama was done giving Hae-seong the *hero* entry they can think again, because this time round uri Hae-seong got the legit 007 entry into the gala. Of course how can anyone believe that person is a school boy is anybody's guess. To their credit, the drama is not really asking us to suspend our disbelief, they are just saying that it is ridiculous for a 31 year old to pass off as a high-schooler but
ottoke he had a bad batch of herbal medicine which made him old and *cough* handsomejust roll with it. 🙄 🙃😂 And guess what - it works!! 🤣Even uri Soo-ah got a beauty's entry into the gala and Hae-seong wasn't the only one who held his breath looking at the vision. 😊❤🥰
Aaah!! Love is in the air, and Hae-seong's cool as as a cucumber reveal of being Bong-ja's 첫사랑 has her heart aflutter. Of course anyone who knows anything about dramaland know the vital importance of first loves in our leads' lives. 🫰🏻
But of course the highlight-u was the waltz fight (or fighting waltz!?) of uri OTP where they merrily bashed the baddies while dancing together gracefully.💃
