Go Yoon-jung and Kang Yoo-seok become Resident Playbook doctors

It’s time for a check-up with tvN’s Resident Playbook doctors and the team has certainly been keeping busy with promos, releasing a new poster on top of teasers, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the medical comedy’s first script reading.

As a spin-off of the hit Hospital Playlist series, the story takes us back to Yulje Hospital. But more specifically at the obstetrics and gynecology unit in Yulje’s Jongno branch, where we meet our four duckling first-years – Go Yoon-jung (Death’s Game), Shin Shi-ah (The Witch: Part 2), Kang Yoo-seok (When Life Gives You Tangerines), and Han Ye-ji – in addition to fourth-year Jung Joon-won (A Model Family).

In the teaser, we see how each day is a rush from one pregnancy to the next as our leads are scrambling to learn the ropes (or is cords?). All the while, the group is instructed in voiceover: “If it’s for the benefit of both the expecting mother and the baby, just do it.” The appearing captions then reveal that, this is a place where our one-year doctors and one-day newborns meet.

It’s a lovely perspective and a rewarding aspect of working in OB-GYN. But it doesn’t erase the job’s growing pains to come for Oh Yi-young (Go Yoon-jung), Pyo Nam-kyung (Shin Shi-ah), Eom Jae-il (Kang Yoo-seok), and Kim Sa-bi (Han Ye-ji) as they bow their heads for a string of mess-ups as we begin the official trailer.

However, despite being scolded for every fumble, the four are determined to push ahead, demonstrating both their hard work and potential. Their efforts have also not gone unnoticed and the teaser ends on a hopeful note as sunbae Gu Do-won (Jung Joon-won), professor Lee Bong-ryun (Sweet Home 2), and professor Lee Chang-hoon (Delightfully Deceitful) – among others – offer support and praises for our leads.

With Hospital Playlist‘s PD Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung taking a backseat in creative roles, production for tvN’s Resident Playbook has directing by PD Lee Min-soo (Heartbeat) and scripts by Kim Song-hee (Hospital Playlist 1, Answer Me 1988). Slated to broadcast on weekends following The Potato Lab, the series will be premiering on April 12 in two more weeks.

It really does look like this was worth the wait, hopefully the timing is just right. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves in its home country as it looks like everyone involved worked hard.

This is my show! I can relate so well as I worked 21 years alongside doctors and anesthesiologists as an OB-GYN RN. Its not always fun or pretty but so worth being on the teams in bringing babies into the world! I hope the beanies who loved the first Hospital Playlist will recognize that this may be a spin off but will be a story of its own and grow to love it just the same. I am so ready to share(re-live) a part of my own life with these 4 newbies!

The drama does seem to have a lot of heart. I like the ducklings already. I am excited to accompany them on their journey of bringing in new lives into the world.
