Premiere Watch: Newtopia
by missvictrix
Time slot: Friday (1x a week)
Broadcaster: Coupang Play
Genre: Thriller, comedy, romance
Episode count: 8
Global streamer: Coupang Play, Prime Video
Reasons to watch: Blackpink’s Jisoo and Park Jung-min star in this rom-com thriller and novel adaptation about… you guessed it… a zombie apocalypse! The two are in the midst of a breakup, but the zombies might have other plans. Though a zombie-themed story is nothing new, Newtopia seems to have romance (so they say!) on its side. Also style. I’m wild about the illustrated poster for this drama, and I’m hoping it signals a high-style approach similar to what Study Group is doing.
TL;DR: Jisoo and Park Jung-min endure a zombie apocalypse, but methinks the drama’s tone will determine if this story endures or not

Your Majesty need not worry- your actual identity is concealed through the use of your Nom De Plume.
The Blinks are indeed a serious bunch.

I am not a fan of zombie stories, so this is a no for me. I have way too many things on my Prime watchlist as it is.

Because this is one episode a week and because thrillers are best binged, I will wait to watch after it's finished airing.

Not for me either...zombies do nothing except kill/eat everything. So the leads will be running and killing too I imagine. 'Train to Busan' worked for me in a big way though. The Dad's quick thinking & fierce protection of his daughter has stayed with me. Of course Gong Yoo's looks helped distract me from the onslaught of the walking dead...train car...by train car. What a show. If I hear the "broken-up couple" in this new one is just as passionate about helping each other through 'Newtopia' I might watch, but not until some very positive reviews come in.

Ji Soo and Zombies.
These two things make it easier for me to decide on NOT watching the drama.

OK, I totally agree with everyone, but I think I need to watch one episode just to see how bad it can be. Maybe I'll be surprised?

I like zombie fiction (which is strange since I'm terrified of horror lol) and I want to see Ji-soo's performance. Will give it a try.

Update: I really liked the first two episodes. Lots of fun, doesn't take itself too seriously. Jisoo's acting was fine.
