Renowned US investor Jim Rogers cited South Korea’s declining population as the biggest concern for international investors. Foreseeing a potential long-term economic impact, he said that South Korea's demographic crisis poses a greater risk than geopolitical tensions with North Korea or economic competition with China.
“You have a very serious demographic problem," Rogers told reporters at a press conference last week in Seoul. South Korea’s population is projected to decline after 2028, reaching 39.29 million by 2067, similar to the level in 1982, according to Statistics Korea. The country has had the world's lowest fertility rate since the 2000s. "Somebody has to do something, or there will not be a Korea in 30 or 40 years," warned Rogers.
Rogers is an astute investor who has lived in Asia for decades. He currently does not invest in South Korea because of the potential economic and political risks, including war risk with North Korea. The South Korea stock market continues to lag the rest of the world: in 2024, Korean stock market was down 12.44% while the US Dow blue chip index went up 13% and SP 500 went up 29%. Meanwhile, the Korean won has sunk to 1,433 won to $1 US.

1. LIFE NOTES
It's been hectic at work as my organisation prepares for Women's History Month and International Women's Day. Lots to do as we're about to launch a new initiative and to host our first event of the year.
It's still chaos out there for all of us working in the anti-violence against women movement given how the Trump administration has redoubled their efforts at dismantling women's rights, safety, and health. Ditto for anyone who isn't White or male.
Fortunately, Aerial Yoga is keeping me on an even keel through all of this. It's nice to have a few hours a week just focusing on climbing and hanging upside down.
2. THIS WEEK IN KOREAN WOMEN'S NEWS
(a) 'Comfort woman,' activist Gil Won-ok dies at 97
Gil Won-ok, a former sex slave for Japanese troops who campaigned to raise awareness of the World War II atrocity, died Sunday, the gender equality ministry said. She was 97.
Gil was 13 years old when she was taken from her home in Pyongyang, now the capital of North Korea, to work as a "comfort woman," a euphemism for sex slaves.
"Gil Won-ok campaigned actively to raise awareness of the suffering of the Japanese military's comfort women at home and abroad," acting Gender Equality Minister Shin Young-sook said in a statement. "We hope that, following a life of hardship, she will find peace."
Gil's death reduces to seven the number of surviving comfort women in South Korea. Of the 240 women registered with the government, 233 have died.

In South Korea, women spend nearly three more hours per day on household chores than men. That deep imbalance at home, according to new research by Nobel-winning economist Claudia Goldin, is one of the key reasons why the country’s birth rate has plunged to the lowest in the world.
In her latest paper published last December, "Babies and the Macroeconomy," she explores why some countries have seen fertility rates stabilize at around 1.6 births per woman, while others — including South Korea, Japan and Italy — have fallen to “lowest of the low” levels, below 1.3. While economic development has reshaped the workforce across the globe, she finds that in some countries, traditional gender roles at home have changed far too slowly.
South Korea is the most striking example highlighted in the paper.

My nonprofit is registered in the U.S. so even though I'm in Asia, we're feeling the impact.
The saving grace for us is that we are small and have always been funded by a community of loyal small donors who believe in our work and allow us to spend as needed for all our expenses.
Our sister anti-VAW organisations as well as women's reproductive rights organisation, child abuse charities etc who rely on federal funding? It's an absolute nightmore.
A lot of women and children (especially girls) will die under this administration because shelters will shut, services will be slashed, and trained frontline workers and veteran experts in the field will be laid off. Not just in the U.S. but in the wider world - anywhere where USAID funding and staffing was.
It's harrowing and I don't doubt that by the end of all this, many of my sister advocates and activists will be completely burned out. And it may take decades to rebuild the workforce and safety nets that were in place for women and children.

POLITICS - hahaha what an interesting beautiful world. I shoul hv made comment here before October - health n mood had some other plans. Still, it was clear in AUgust itself who gonna win. I'll do apost next week on that.
Donut n musk surely r a good troll pair. so much rage bait they through n every1 gets DISTRACTED. those who invested in both hv gained huge returns. Both r stupid if u want them to be. In reality both r crook n going with plans. This i was expecting but they r quite deliberate that shows others aka those rare 1% want immediate outcome.
Stock mkt - buy defense stocks. every cold season strategy - also pharma stocks. Both sector already giving decent returns.

Here are my two things for this week:
(1) I knew that Kick Kick Kick Kick was rarely an AI-related K-sitcom as AI (artificial intelligence) was part of storyline in the episode 5 this week. (Note: In this episode's scene, Ji Jin-hee was using AI chatbot via a fictional(!) ChatGPT, ChitGPT)
And now, I knew that I can filled and listed some AI-related Kdramas: Are You Human Too, My Holo Love, A Piece of Your Mind, Rugal, Start-Up and even Unlock My Boss.
(2) OMG, I had my good news: Seo In-guk was now officially confirmed as my country's (Philippine) new tourism ambassador to South Korea according to Dept. of Tourism. Also on this article, he had an upcoming K-drama, a Netflix Kdrama Boyfriend on Demand with Jisoo (Blackpink).

Happy Friday, Beanies! It's ONLY a Friday, but I'm already drained to the max (or min in this case?), so today's entry won't be any impressive either. Not to mention that I ran out of recent content, while Yuning himself spent this week locked in recording room and the next one gonna be all about filming THE TRUTH S3, so we'll only get like 1 gala at the very end of February and that's it, I guess.
Still no signs of the new album, when it's even happening, dude?Haven't heard anything about new OSTs either, btw. Remember I showed you his mid-filming singing video from AJTL era before? He's done that a lot in his early years, but I think post-AJTL dramas kept him too busy to even blink twice, let alone record such little snippets for fans during his rare breaks. Maybe he'll pick this tradition back up if his schedule gets less stressful, but that's not very likely atm... With this particular song I couldn't find original artists (seems to be co-ed duo, as you can hear, but alas) or even proper English title, but it should be something like “A break from work”? Very fitting, imo. Btw, I wonder if he's lowering his voice this much deliberately or was just tired. Feat Daimi enjoying the free concert – wow, she's so obedient and chill here! Back to even older, street busking times, with Lu Xianghui's (I think) “Acceptance”. He sang it quite a few times, but, terrible hair aside – ge, what were you thinking? this color only looks non-ghostly on people who were born with it! - this seems to be the best performance out of them all. Even though he's coughing through it – probably once again was sick but kept going.

Not just his family - his whole hometown is proud, since he's one of the very few celebs from there. I'm sure I saw a post of "our boy is a star" kinda billboards displayed there, probably sponsored by local fans - idk if it was for his birthday last month or maybe his band's anniversary few days ago, but still. Didn't save the link and can't find it rn, sadly.
Ah, I don't vibe with dogs, my cat energy must be too strong))) But Daimi is cute indeed.

It's also funny to me that I just learned I can shut off the AI summary by including "fuck" or "fucking" in a search. (For example, "how the fuck do I shut off the AI summary.") I went to the original post and you were trying the same trick to see what the Dramabeans site was flagging! My high school English teacher would be so proud. He once assigned us to use "fuck" in a sentence in place of every part of speech.

And I hate that a lot of my FB friends or acquaintances think it's appropriate to ask Chat GPT for it's "opinion" and then fill the updates and comments with the puke and pellets of that thing. And what is worse, it is self-reinforcing, eating it's own non-digested products and also re-intaking them from people who are actually using it as a source.
So I am having an uncomfortable paranoid feeling when surfing the web now, that things that with a quick glance seems like some person expressed this, or some this thing really happened - it's all just machine-self-absorbed-and-spewed nonsens.
It's so exhausting!

It never fails to amaze me how eagerly so many people jump at the opportunity to delegate thinking for them to someone - or, in this case, something - else. Wish I could blame it all on AI, but nope, this phenomenon started way before the damn thing was more than just a dystopian sci-fi concept.

It never ceases to amaze me how any human being in their right mind could actually believe the gibberish spewed out by AI random BS generators when even the people who have built artificial intelligence systems admit they don't know how the things work... It boggles my mind.
When ChatGPT made such a splash a while back and everyone was bowing down to it, all I could think was that they were worshipping the latest newfangled Golden Calf -- and turning off their own God-given, natural-born intellects in the process.
Why would anyone believe anything it spits out when AI = "artificial intelligence" = "fake intelligence."
How much more honestly could it be named? At best it is a highly efficient pattern-recognition system. Until it outputs untruths...
I'm coming to think of this execrable state of affairs as the Revenge of the Semiconductors...

How many times did you encounter "Gateway time-out" error on the way?
I'm testing SiteSucker, an app that works on Mac, to download the fanwall pages to html files. After playing with it the whole afternoon, I think I've finally known how to set it up so that it only downloads fanwall pages without downloading any other link that may link to anything on each page.
But the thing is, if a page is inaccessible due to gateway time-out error, then the app doesn't work on that page. It will return an error message.

I decided I finally would be cleaning up the rampart of stashed yarn, books, needles, and ehm ... I don't know how it got so large, really. But now I have been sitting on the floor for more than an hour, having sorted out one of the bags, and the got lost on ravelry, looking for argyle patterns.
But I really need to clean this up a bit, so that I can vacuum.

I mean, it's hazardous to get into the middle of it where my chair is. You have to like, balance on one leg and search out a spot that doesn't have a knitting needle or a skein on it, and then kind of turn on one foot so that your back turns toward the chair.
If you have a computer and a cup of coffee also, the skill required is really Simone Biles-y. I wonder why I don't look as fit as her?

I have to consciously limit my knitting projects, this works … fine. At the moment there's one sweater, a Goblin-style shawl, one glove, half a dog sweater, something I have no idea about and I would really love to start a lace sweater and … I really, really need to consciously limit my projects to two. Or three, max.

I don't have that many projects at one time ... it's just that I have a lot of yarn bought with a very vague idea about what I wanted , and I am slowly working my way through it, but my patterns are half some actual pattern and half something I have decided I wanted to do and that I kind of make up as I go along. And so I take bags down with stash, and search for something I could use for that sleeve of the crocodile mouth or what ever, and the bag doesn't go back in its drawer, and also, my box with sowing stuff and the good scissor is on the floor, and my folder with the knitting needles, and a big box with effing papers that my daughter decided I couldn't have in the closet in the living room, and that I kind of went through, but then some of the yarn was "sorted" into that box, and now it's here too, and I have dropped some markers on the floor and need to use a magnet to find them before I vacuum clean this place. Also, I have like, ten see through bags - not sure why.
Think it must be because when I watch K-drama and cook, I protect the keyboard with a plasticbag, that I often happen to bring back into my spot in the living room ... yeah, not so impressive. And also, there's a huge Lego machine. It's not mine, but it somehow seems mine because it stands with my things. It's the world's biggest digging machine, that my 18-year-old got for Christmas. While the real thing is big enough to have a truck on one of its shovels, the Lego set is the size of a medium-small dog

Wauw, I LOVE the tuileries one! I have some sweaters with like features ... the pattern made with rib/non-rib, the neckline that is so connected with the body piece ... in my "I want something like this" stack.
And I am considering making something with a pattern of spots in many colours, like the wervel. But maybe argyle. There's an Icelandic sweater that combine those things, but it does not have my size. So in case I will make it, I will have to calculate size. I get extra grey hairs just from imagining that.
The Aika is very elegant, too. And the shawl.
If I was good at making patterns with holes, I would design some black birds with their wings spread out, as a shawl. One of my daughters love "Six of Crows", the book, and a shawl like that would be so cool, and also make sure she didn't end up with 8 sweaters when she needs three max, and she has them already.

Jepp, the tuileries sweater is great, it did take me some time to figure out how to do the raglan sleeves. The sizing is also a bit off, but it does go from XS to 5X. Calculating sizes is the bane of my existence, honestly.
The lace raven shawl idea sounds awesome and delightfully goth! I'm sure I've seen a version with a two color pattern somewhere on Ravelry, but I'd have to do a deep dive and I should work (and go vote!) actually …

I think it's actually called a rose pattern.
I also think it's very old - so you should be thinking of symbols from a thousand or more years ago.
A bit like some of the traditional patchwork patterns that have names, but you need to know to recognize the squares and triangles as "Waves" or whatever.

Although she kept talking throughout the movie, it was a good time!! I’m also glad that her commentary for this movie was the super enthusiastic fangirling kind— unlike her commentary for previous movies we’d watched together, which were sarcastic, snarky, and passive aggressive. I think this movie this time made a difference because she also watched many adaptations—dramas and movies alike—of LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES throughout the years, so watching another adaptation of the story via this movie brought back good memories and feelings for her 😊
During one of the promotions that the cast attended, cast member and veteran, Tony Leung Ka Fai, said this, “Every generation has their own Guo Jing” (Guo Jing, being the main male lead of the original novel series), and agree 💯 The version we got in this movie adaptation of 2025 is my generation of the story and characters 🤗 But again, I’m glad that it still brought a sense of nostalgia for mum 🥰🥰

Hello all, sharing a fanwall downloading tool I've been working on:

DramabeansFarewall-v1_02220220.zip is the installer. (The numbers might change a little bit when I release updates.)
sample-output-mary.zip is what the downloaded fanwall looks like, if you want to check it out before using the tool
After downloading the installer, unzip it into your desired folder and read the instructions on README.txt
Right now, the installer only works for Windows while I figure out how to make a Mac installer without having a Mac.
Some disclaimers:
- This tool was made without using special access or privileges on Dramabeans.
- Please don't ask the DB Staff to troubleshoot this for you. I made it for free to help them, so it'd suck if me releasing this tool causes even more work for them.
I ♥ DB. It's one of the last remaining spaces from when the internet was a nice place, and I wish it would stay online forever.

On Mac, SiteSucker works similarly. The downloaded files are the same. It's just that I don't know how to download the whole fanwall in one go. Instead, I have to queue all the pages' URLs in the URL window, which is not too bad because I don't need to open DB at all.
I can't test your software because I don't have a Windows device, but with SiteSucker, it can't download whichever page that has gateway time-out error at the time of download. So, if there's something I would ask of @db-staff , it would be about this error, because we can't do anything from our ends.
This is what your downloaded fanwall looks like. It doesn't look as neat as what your software downloads because it keeps the recap thumbnails at the bottom of each page.

Oh, thank you for the sample download! I reviewed its output.
It seems SiteSucker doesn't retrieve the images, so it remains hotlinked inside the html pages. Unfortunately, that will continue to drain on DB resources every time the page is opened. And, in the sad case that DB closes down, the images inside SiteSucker's html output will also disappear.
Since you're quite tech-savvy, I'll release a more manual version of my tool for Mac. :) You'll just need to run a chmod on the command line. (I'll update this thread when it's done.)
Regarding the server errors, yes, I noticed those too that's why I built in a retry loop for my tool. I don't think they're ignoring the server errors, but maybe they're having problems with the site too.

Oh I think I finally know what you meant. Yes I tested it just now, and if the photos were directly uploaded on DB server, then SiteSucker indeed stills hotlinked them to DB resources. I checked some of my GIFs, two of them were directly uploaded to cloudfront.net, they are still clickable and take me to the "live" hosting medium, which means when that medium is gone, the GIFs will be gone too.
In another case though, a GIF was uploaded on imgur and I have deleted that GIF from imgur. It still shows and plays in the local html. I have even deleted that post on my fanwall and the post in the local html is still intact at this moment. I'm wondering if there is any delay in the update and the GIF will be gone if I view it sometime later today or tomorrow? :) By that question, you must know I'm not tech savvy at all 😅
Thank you in advance and I'll look forward to your Mac version of the installer. I noticed that your software downloads each page to a separate html but it shows all pages at the bottom of each html and the files are linked together, which is amazing. SiteSucker doesn't do that.

@mary After spending time reading the manual, I've known how to set up SiteSucker so that it saves media to local folders 😅 I have the crazy idea of saving the whole fanwall, that's the reason I'm trying SiteSucker 😅
I'm also running your script (v6) on a window desktop. As in the README, the tool will only generate the htmls after finishing all pages. So if one has 60 pages, and it is looping at page 40 due to gateway time-out error, is there a way I can obtain the htmls for page 1- 39? Or is there a way I can skip page 40 and restart from page 41, when I know I can't save page 40?
And thank you for amending the scripts on the go to accommodate all needs ❤️

You mean saving all the fanwalls? :O That's a mega project *salute*
It's designed to scrape until the end before generating the html pages, because you need to know all the pages to be able to put the links at the bottom.
For your use case (and since I know you can hack your installer LOL) you can try tricking the installer to think it already scraped page 40. Here are the steps:
[Step 1] Cancel the current run (ctrl + c)
[Step 2] Trick the script into thinking it's done with page 40.
Open last_scraped.txt. This file tells the script which page was last successfully saved. It probably says 39. Change it to 40. Make sure to edit the file using plain-text editor like Notepad and not a fancy word-editing program.
[Step 3] Add a blank html for page 40 to avoid errors when generating the pages later.
Open pages.json using Notepad or a plain-text editor.
At the very bottom of the file, you'll see the last two lines are a curly brace followed by a square bracket:

Add a blank entry for page 40 by changing the last two lines to this:

]
[Step 4] Resume running the script save_fanwall.bat.

These steps (in theory haha) should help you skip a page with minimal errors. At the end of the run, it should generate a blank html with pagination for the page you skipped.
I suggest you try this with a beanie with a few pages first (someone with 3-4?) and check if the final html pages are generated with no errors. Also to practice editing the pages.json file since it's quite huge.

About the whole fanwall, I'm inputting these URLs

in SiteSucker and it will download that fan-post page to a html.
But I think I'll have to be happy with the media still hosted on the hosting sites, and that a part of that will be gone from the local htmls when the fanwall is gone, because if I save each page with all the media to local folders, then it would take another ~93 days (assuming my computer runs nonstop 24/7) 😅 So I'm just saving the text. Hopefully a large part of pictures will still be available because they are hosted outside of DB.

If you’re pressed for time, I think you can scrape multiple accounts at the same time by unzipping the tool multiple times to different folders, and giving each copy of the script a different username to work on.

So now, talking about the whole fanwall in a chronological order, as @parkchuna pointed out, it has 9711 pages. I have changed the URL in your fanwall_mac.js file by removing the 'members', and if I key in the username as 'fan-posts', then it will start to scrape from
https://dramabeans.com/fan-posts/?acpage=1
to eternity, until it generates the htmls. Not to mention when it encounters a page that it can't open. So, even if I edit file last_scraped.txt, then the script will only know the start point, but it doesn't have an end point. I know it is supposed to be 9971, but I don't think it can finish in time.
So my question is (because this is too difficult I can't do it myself): Is there a way to tell the script the end point, like, can I tell the script to start at page 40 and stop at page 100? By that, I can monitor the process, and if it won't be able to scrape so many, then at least there is some number of pages.
Because I'm sitting in front of my Mac right now, I'm trying with the version for Mac. But because you have already fixed the "See more" bug for Windows, if you know the answer for the question above for Windows, can you please let me know? I will borrow a Windows device and run the script.

After unzipping the installer, you'll have to open Terminal and navigate to the installation folder. Then run this command first:
chmod +x mac_save_fanwall.sh

Died on me, complaining
"Could not find Chrome (ver. 133.9.6943.53). This can occur..."
after I entered my username.
I have Chrome Version 133.0.6943.127 (Official Build) (64-bit)
but it's not my default browser.
Windows 10 Home
When I tried to re-run, it went straight to that error without prompting for user name.
At some point first time (sorry I forget exactly where), I got a message that
"Windows protected your PC
Microsoft Defender Smartscreen prevented an unrecognized app..."
with a "Don't run" box at the lower right. I get this a lot and to run it you have to click on the "More info" above and to the left, but I'd bet not everyone will know that.

Was working fine last night. When I work up it said
"Error on page 117: Attempted to use detached frame"...
and retried about 100 times while I was doing other stuff.
So some sort of idle/sleep issue. I didn't manually sleep it over night but I have rather aggressive power save settings.
Anyway, control-c-ed it and it's up to page 119 now, so nice recovery routine :)

Mary~~ thank you so much for this, and thank you for loving DB. That last sentence hits.
So, I borrowed my dad’s windows laptop to do a quick test, and I noticed that long posts with the read more button are not expanded, and will not expand within the html file. It directs to the post’s permalink on DB when clicked, so I'm assuming the whole post wouldn't be accessible once the wall goes down.
Also, this noob has a couple questions about the mac version (I'll tag @claire2009 here as well):
1. To allow Terminal to make changes, I went to settings > privacy & security > accessibility > added terminal. Is this correct?
2. How do you navigate to the installation folder in Terminal as instructed in step 3 on README?

1. Yes I think that's what I did.
2. In the terminal, type pwd to know where you are.
For example, when I type pwd --> enter, it shows
/Users/claire
That's where I am at.
If I need to go to /Users/claire/Downloads/DramabeansFarewall/
then I would type
cd Downloads/DramabeansFarewall/
and press enter.
So, the principle is:
- By typing cd, it takes you to the root folder altogether no matter where you are.
- By typing cd .. (cd then a space, then 2 dots) and enter, it will take you out of your current folder step by step.
- By typing cd followed by a space then then directory you want to go to as illustrated above, then you'll go there.
- You can always check where you are by typing pwd.

I made it to the username prompt on my mac, but it gave me this error:
throw new Error Browser was not found at the configured executablePath
Error: Browser was not found at the configured executablePath
However, it ran smoothly on the windows laptop, and it looks good!!!

hi, downloaded v6. unzipped it. Ran the save_fanwall file..command window opened. Gives err - cannot find module "puppeteer".. some lines on required stack.. last "press any key to continue".. then window closes once i press a key and nothing happens

It sounds like not all the files have been unzipped. Can you try deleting the whole folder and unzipping again?
The folder node_modules should have @puppeteer inside.
If it's there, then maybe it's a permission error and you need to run the script as an admin?

Aloha, @mary -- the download of my fanwall that you made with your fanwall downloading tool is simply terrific!
The output displays just like on the usual DB pages, but minus the the graphics, especially in the headers and footers. The matrix of page numbers at the bottom of the page is easy to navigate.
At last I was able to see what was on page 1 -- Daebak!!!

I used the Mac installer just now and it worked seamlessly. The only thing the Mac installer doesn't have that the Windows installer does is to handle posts with "See more", I think.

I'm playing with your scripts and so far it saves each page to html on the go (and I understand that pagination couldn't be done this way so I disableed that function), so I guess even the process is interrupted in the middle, then I will have anything already saved in my local folder intact?!! It's fascinating!!

I need some help, hopefully @mary sees this since it's her script but will reply to you as well haha - I have it running twice, on two fanwalls, but both are stuck on certain pages and have been since yesterday afternoon - you were talking about skipping pages above, but I don't know how you did that - also is there a way to stop the script and download what it has scraped already without it finishing entirely?

@sicarius You're on Windows, right? Everything else is the same, just replace the file of the same name in Mary's tool with this one

This one will save files to your local folder as it goes, but it doesn't skip an unopened page (I wish I could do that 😁). So when it's stuck at page 35, then do the following (Mary posted above but I just pasted it here):
[Step 1] Cancel the current run (ctrl + c)
[Step 2] Trick the script into thinking it's done with page 35: Open last_scraped.txt. This file tells the script which page was last successfully saved. It probably says 34. Change it to 35. Make sure to edit the file using plain-text editor like Notepad and not a fancy word-editing program.
Then run save_fanwall.bat again, it will continue from page 36.
So just keep an eye on the process and manually skip pages with error. Let me know how it goes.

Did I not tell you all I would start complaining once things were upon me?🤫 It is Saturday here already, because I am exhausted on Fridays. Anyway, I have been practicing driving my electrical bike and My Dearest Nemesis started. Past me would find that too much to add to my real life plate but present me wants the desserts anyway! Besides, outlets are necessary to keep up. Panicking is for the next two weeks, when more K-drama desserts join the buffet of life! 🍨🍰🎂
