Making big plans for 2025, Netflix recently held a press event in Seoul to present the year’s K-content lineup – along with the speedy teaser way below. On the heels of The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call opening the year with a fun bang, excitement is certainly bubbling for the more to come and I hope you’re sitting comfy with snacks because it’s certainly a big list to get through.

Title: Melo Movie

Title: Mercy for None

Title: Weak Hero Class 2
Release date: Q2

Dizzying is a very apt description of this long list.

It's paralyzing! But they will release them over the year. Drip. Drip. And the Beanie Canaries will watch the single-drops and probably eliminate a good number of them from my consideration before I even sit down to press play!

This is A LOT. I hope some of them are good. I know a couple I will skip completely, but I will watch most of these.

WEAK HERO CLASS 2!! I know I shouldn't compare, but I don't love Study Group nearly as much as Beanies do because Weak Hero Class 1 is superior in every way.

Weak Hero Class 1 is a mastepiece. I watched it when it aired.
But I can't compare both dramas, because Weak Hero is a melodrama, hard and more or less realistic, while Study Group is a very good comedy with amazing scenes, and never boring.

One of my goals this year is to watch more Netflix single-drops. I often miss them because I've got other dramas going on and then never get back to them. The conversation moves on and I never hear about them again or make time for them. But so many in this list seem like they could be fun or interesting, so I'm going to try to plan for them more carefully.

I really really want Dear Hongrang to be good (or even just watchable) but with all the faux-cest is that actually possible? I hope he's a total imposter and it's not just extremely ick - I really want to see Lee Jae-wook again.

🤣 *mentally files away “faux-cest”* Yikes, agreed: hopefully they’ll keep it sans ick. 😂

You think they’ll give us another lantern festival or fireworks at that palace bridge scene again? 🤩 It was all the rage in 2023, but totally disappeared in 2024. 🤔 (Wait - did I even watch one sageuk or Joseon fusion/fantasy/time travel drama that aired in 2024?! I’m not so sure about it… huh. 🤯)

Hahaha faux-cest used to be all the rage in dramas of yesteryear! I'm hoping it mostly stays there.

Omg we can only hope we get lantern festivals or gorgeous lights in reflecting pools. What has the PD of Matchmakers been doing lately? I watched fewer sageuks in 2024 too but not on purpose. Hopefully we get some good ones this year!

I’ll gladly watch another beautiful production like THE MATCHMAKERS! But at least from this PD no such luck, nothing seems to be in the making… 🙁 Seems like 2024 was a sageuk desert. After doublechecking I only watched KNIGHT FLOWER, but since that was at the beginning of 2024, it seems ages ago!

… Ah, the palace politics, feeling suspicious of the left state minister, and all the crown princes in disguise… 😂 Bring it on, 2025!

I think you mean Park's Marriage Contract, which aired in 2023 but finished in 2024 :)

I’m with you on the yuck factor. And, you’re right that he is most likely an impostor who I guess is from another warring family who has a continental (sized) trauma.
This prodigal ‘son’ has been referred to as a ‘step brother’ or ‘half brother’ on some other sites. An impostor makes the romance feasible and the faux-cest just a red herring.

A lot going on and a goodly number of which interests me so perhaps availability angst won’t be so severe in 2025, but, going into Bill Gates mode again,
If I was Bill Gates I would commission a drama specifically for Jang Seung-jo where he plays a GOOD guy. Enough with JSJ playing abusive husbands etc.

Bill Gates because he is one of the only billionaires who is not a fascist?

He may not be a fascist like the others, but he is still a billionaire. I would recommend listening to the Behind the Bastards episodes on him.

This is a dizzying list, mainly cause there are so many I want to see, films included! I do want to know where all their money for producing these come from when everything is so tight BUT I am grateful for them and will watch with gratitude for them.

Waow, so many KDramas, not sure if Netflix is saving or ruining Kdramas industry.

I'm pretty excited to watch Kim Sun-ho back in a drama (I dropped Tyrant).

Kim Go-eun looks so different in her 2 dramas but both look interesting!

One of THE most annoying things I've seen on My Drama List was people constantly theorizing about when Weak Hero Class 2 (or maybe it's just called 'Weak Hero' now) would be released or asking about whether Choi Hyun Wook would be apart of it and why wouldn't he be there! The comment section for that show already has over 3000 comments! Before even a trailer or an airdate.

Mercy for None just makes me think of John Wick haha.

I'm just curious about Squid Game 3. I wonder how it will all wrap up but since I was never all that invested in it, I don't feel any particular anticipation. I liked seeing analysis about the show though.

Netflix Canada:
I count 13 shows/dramas/movies in the “Worth the Wait” section and 1 movie “Coming This Week”. Probably the longest list of new Korean content coming to Netflix Canada since before Christmas

Have you ever seen the tag list that long? LOL.

A lot of info to take in. I've been slacking on Netflix shows especially their original ones. >.<

This long list of dramas made me think of how much filming and producing is going on every year. So many dramas to choose from.

I am not sure if this loooong content lineup is meant to make the viewers dizzy or dazzled but tbh I am a bit of both. So many dramas, so many favorites. If I watched only these I would have more beans than ever before. 😅😂 Well Netflix K-drama content seems to have become a force of nature but at least it is not all doom and gloom and darkly sinister as the Disney lineup so there is that. I'll the So Ji-sub even in a dark vengeance avatar though. 🤩

I DID! I never really thought she was more beautiful than other actresses (well, there are a lot of beautiful actresses in K drama world), but I did halt at her still here. I never knew she had quite a small face! She looks like a doll here.

Might as well glimpse at MERCY FOR NONE for the cast - well, mostly to see if SJS finally got his acting mojo back.

So much content just for one platform! I've been reading the Hongrang webtoon. It's interesting, but I'm not sure if there is enough for a 12-16 episode series. I'm not sure if they're going to add in a bunch of palace politics stuff.

Thanks for the article, and I'm eyeing some of these!

1. Can This Love Be Translated?
BB is BACK baby! Yes! And this time he is in his most comfortable zone: rom-com. I really look forward to this one. Though I didn't love Alchemy of Souls 1-2 that much, I really thought GYJ was gorgeous in it. So imagine how I felt knowing these two would work together in a project!

2. Aema
If not for anything else, I'll try this one just for the costume design alone. I think the costume department is really playing their A game here looking at what the actors and actresses wore in the pictures here!

3. You and Everything Else
I like the title and I LOVE the synopsis. If the story is told in a masterful way like Tell Me that You Love Me, I'll be a very happy camper.

Variety shows

1. Culinary Class War 2
Can't wait for this one! It's a fun family watch.
