MBC presents their 2025 drama lineup

Following what now seems to be standard practice across the networks, MBC is the latest to offer up their 2025 lineup, stirring up our appetite for a pretty, pretty feast this new year. The first course already started this past weekend on January 10, serving us a flush of love with a smattering of angst in Motel California, starring Lee Se-young (What Comes After Love) and Na In-woo (Marry My Husband).

Title: Undercover High School
Release date: February
Need to know: In a hunt for King Gojong’s lost gold, the crime-action and rom-com puts government agent Seo Kang-joon (Grid) on an undercover assignment as a student. But on the first day of high school, his top secret identity is already at risk when his ex-girlfriend Jin Ki-joo (Uncle Samsik) enters the classroom as his new homeroom teacher.

Title: Crushology 101 (previously Bunny and Her Boys)
Release date: April
Need to know: When her first relationship comes to a terrible end, we meet Noh Jung-eui (Hierarchy) as she begins her quest for better love in this campus romance. There is hope, after all, when swimming in a sea of many fish and the webtoon adaptation nets her more than one yummy suitor to choose from – including leading man Lee Chae-min (Hierarchy).

Title: Oh My Ghost Clients
Release date: May
Need to know: With a newfound ability to see ghosts, the fantasy comedy has labor attorney Jung Kyung-ho (Crash Course in Romance) teaming up with sister-in-law Seol In-ah (Twinkling Watermelon) and content creator Cha Hak-yeon (Castaway Diva) to help tackle the cases from their supernatural clientele.

Title: Mary Kills People
Release date: Q3 or Q4
Need to know: Based on the Canadian black comedy by the same title, Lee Bo-young (Hide) stars as a moonlighting doctor who secretly runs an illegal euthanasia clinic together with fellow doctor Kang Ki-young (Queen of Divorce). All the while, once-a-cop-always-a-cop Lee Min-ki (Face Me) is the man on their tail.

Title: Let’s Go to the Moon (roughly translated)
Release date: Q3 or Q4
Need to know: Starring Lee Sun-bin (Boyhood), Ra Mi-ran (Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born), Jo Ah-ram (The Auditors), and Kim Young-dae (No Gain No Love), the office rom-com takes us through the realistic struggles of ordinary corporate employees and we follow the journey of our leads as they start to dream big and pursue a different path.

Title: The Moon Flows on This River (roughly translated)
Release date: Q3 or Q4
Need to know: Hijinks, love, and a sprinkling of ~mystery~ await our heavy-hearted crown prince Kang Tae-oh (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) when he encounters the amnesiac Kim Se-jung (Brewing Love) – who looks exactly like his dead wife, of course – and the powers-that-be in our fantasy sageuk decree a body-swap for our already confused pair.

Adding to the list above, MBC’s 21st Century Prince’s Wife (roughly translated, working title) is also expected to bring IU (Hotel del Luna) and Byun Woo-seok (Lovely Runner) to our screens later this year. The series was said to be omitted from the official list as it’s still in the early stages of production and is in discussions to secure an appropriate director to lead the team.

Oh, I’ll be sure to watch anything featuring Kang Tae-oh - and Kim Se-Jung. However. 🧐 Amnesia? Looking exactly like someone else, of course? Body swap? 🤣 Now I’m intrigued how they will shoehorn a white Truck of Doom into this sageuk, because nothing seems implausible.
Bring it on! 🤓

Also happy for the extensive list of other rom-coms in here!

Crushology?? Who is making these titles? I think the Korean title says it all, Bunny's Oppas. 🙂

Speaking of oppas... I'm happy for the return od Seo Kangjoon and Kang Taeoh. 😊❤️

Undercover High School
Seo Kang-joon won't be credible as a teenager but I'm happy to see him back!

Crushology 101 (what a weird title)
A new drama with giants!

Oh My Ghost Clients
It looks fun and Jung Kyung Ho is so good in comedy!

Mary Kills People
What is the position of Korea about euthansia? It's a dark theme.

Let’s Go to the Moon
An ensemble cast of women!

The Moon Flows on This River
Not sure Secret Garden needed an sageuk adaptation.

1 - when will kdramas be done with obvious adults pretending to be teens? I can count actors who actually nailed the task using fingers from just one hand!

2 - both previous and new titles are disaster, ouch. I don't even care about cast or premise, it just sounds BAD.

3 - sister-in-law? So there won't be romance? I'd love a fantasy comedy without romance very much!

4 - all that staying out all night did a number on poor Mary in the end...

5 - "realistic struggles of corporate employees" - oh my, show, you didn't have to try this hard to make me NOT watch you!

6 - interesting pairing, but premise is a bit (I'm speaking nicely, OK?) too busy, and then super duper generic romance sageuk title... Let's hope the actual plot would be more inspired than that.

7 - I love it when actors I don't care about are paired together, good for them^^

These dramas seem to be falling into a couple of categories for me: “I wish I was interested but I don’t trust something about this” or “I am interested in this even though it sounds hilariously over the top”. Can you guess which is which? 😂 It’s definitely going to be an interesting year in dramaland!

Wish you were interested: Mary Kills People, Let's Go to the Moon, 21st Century Wife.

Sounds hilariously over the top: Undercover High School, Oh My Ghost Clients, The Moon Flows Over This River.

No. 1. I will be there for Seo Kang-joon’s return even though I wish it was in WATCHER 2. Playing a high school ‘kid’ I wonder if he will go full out and bring back the braces he wore in THE THIRD CHARM. (SKJ was a good sport in TTC with the braces and perm. Google if you want a chuckle.)
No. 3. I will be there for Jung Kyun-ho’s return even though some of this was covered in THE MIDNIGHT STUDIO.
No. 4. I will not be there for MARY however it got me thinking who do you thing would win if TOMORROW’s gang went after MARY’s gang? I would place my money on TOMORROW’s.

1 - Have to try this for the cast, but I have the same reaction as other beanie's about 30-something actors in high school roles, especially for the entire story.

2 - Although this story isn't for me, I think the stills that have been released so far show a sweet story possibility for the right viewer demographic. The titles are awful though.

3 - If this script is well-written, this could be very fun!

7 - Yeah ok, I'll admit I'm looking forward to this 😉 I'm finding lately that I'm really attracted to productions that blend the best of old and new k-drama styles. Love Scout is one of them. This looks like it could be another one. Actually, the bunny show also seems like it could be one too.
