Joo Ji-hoon is on call to save lives in The Trauma Code

The explosions continue for Netflix’s upcoming medical drama The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call. Starring Joo Ji-hoon (Light Shop) as the life-saving, motorcycle-riding, helicopter-rappelling surgeon Baek Kang-hyuk, this smorgasbord of a drama features the happenings of a trauma center and its egotistical, genius lead.

The trailer starts off with a series of rumors surrounding Dr. Baek Kang-hyuk, and the consensus seems to be that he has the hands of god but the personality of the devil. Cut to Kang-hyuk in the operating room cursing out his team, and then in the ICU emphasizing to his patient that they survived because of him. The rumors may not be an exaggeration, after all.

Thanks to Kang-hyuk’s abrasive personality, he makes enemies everywhere he goes, and hospital director Kim Eui-sung (Check In Hanyang) is certain that he will screw up sooner or later. Granted, Kang-hyuk has the skills to shield himself from most naysayers, but when his methods cost the hospital more with each life he saves – they are bleeding money according to doctor Kim Won-hae (The Fiery Priest 2) – opposition is bound to rise.

Despite the others’ attempts to stop the loose-cannon doctor, Kang-hyuk merely screams profanities at his phone and continues doing what he does best. Even when everyone else gives up on a case, Kang-hyuk only focuses on the patient that he needs to treat because debating anything else is simply nonsense. Eventually, his passion rubs off on doctor Choo Young-woo (The Tale of Lady Ok) who changes from skeptic to believer, and along with nurse Ha Young (Face Me), the two of them follow Kang-hyuk as he performs his next magic trick.

Directed by filmmaker Lee Do-yoon (Confession) with scripts by Choi Tae-kang (Adamas), Netflix’s The Trauma Code – Heroes on Call will release all eight episodes on January 24.

Awesome....I need a fast-paced medical drama with no lovey dovey scenes.

Agreed - there is no need to fill each drama with at least one romance. Will watch this - one drop of all episodes is always good in my book

I have nothing against the romance genre, but I am the kind who prefer a variety of genres. Plus, I haven't watched a proper medical one for so long, while the romance genre take a front seat throughout November 2024 till January 2025.

I'm going to have to wait til the first weekend of the Chinese New Year to watch this because my mother and elders in the extended family are HELLBENT on dragging me on the new year visiting rounds, lunches, dinners etc.

This introvert has successfully Houdini'd her way out of everything but 3 family New Year dinners for the past decade and this year my mother decides she wants to make me do the rounds.

And as you probably know from experience - these Chinese New Year visits to various relatives involves having to face various Nosey Parker questions and tactless remarks about (in particular order): one's marital status, one's weight/size, one's career, one's finances, one's kids (or lack thereof - THE HORROR!) etc.

Seriously?! Leave me alone at home with Ji-Hoon Oppa and several containers of cookies and crunchies and I'll be fine!

I understand that. My mum and relatives can be that determine to have the eating and getting-together sessions throughout the Chinese New Year celebration. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to escape to my room and do nothing but watch Ju Ji Hoon in action and being the Big Boss.

@peeyeelai In my experience, anyone who attempts to hide in a room with snacks and something to watch usually ends up being interrupted because one of the aunties will come right in and start talking to you despite seeing that you're busy watching stuff.

*Eye roll*

I'm not very into medical dramas but with that cast and only 8 episodes, this is a bean I'm going to gain.

Right? Sometimes medical dramas can be exhausting with all the palace hospital politics, but at only 8 episodes, I’m here to watch the Korean-emergency-room version of Gregory House any time!

Choo Young Woo is my main draw! I'm totally loving him in The Tale of Ok.

I do like the life-saving rescue stories too and Joo Ji Hoon has that arrogant, determined act down.

It's a full Netflix drop though so I doubt I'll get to it quickly. XP
