Choi Woo-shik and Park Bo-young want to make a Melo Movie
by Jenzy
What’s your favorite kind of movie? The first teaser for Netflix’s upcoming rom-com series Melo Movie starring Choi Woo-shik (A Killer Paradox) and Park Bo-young (Light Shop) introduces us to our lovebirds and their connection built through the big screen.
We open on a flashback of our two leads, the wide-eyed supporting actor Go Gyeom (Choi Woo-shik) and the cynical aspiring filmmaker (Park Bo-young). For Gyeom, as soon as he hears Mu-bi’s name (the Korean pronunciation of “movie”), it is love at first sight. As a movie buff, he finds it charming that someone could have the same name as his passion—a fact Mu-bi is less impressed by—and he is nothing if not direct about his feelings, yelling out, “I like you! Am I not allowed to like you?” as she passes by.
After shutting down several of Gyeom’s flirtation attempts, Mu-bi also begins to fall for him. But despite the absolute cuteness onscreen once she admits her feelings, her voiceover gives us the sad news, “And just like that, Go Gyeom disappeared.”
It isn’t until a film screening several years later that our two meet again, this time with Mu-bi onstage as a director and Gyeom asking questions from the audience as a film critic. Neither is particularly happy to see the other, both because of their history and the bad blood between their two fields of work, with Gyeom offering Mu-bi a wry, “Let’s get along like the enemies we are.”
But despite the wounds and animosity between the two, the palpable lingering feelings between our two leads are impossible to ignore. Will they find their happy ending? Or was their movie actually a tragedy all along?
Directed by Oh Chung-hwan (Castaway Diva) with scripts written by Lee Na-eun (Our Beloved Summer), Melo Movie will premiere its 10 episodes on February 14 on Netflix.

I personally do not think 10 ep gonna be enough to give time for building the relationship and character growth... Like Our beloved summer 16 ep gave them time to develop their past relationship, while also had breathing room to build their present time relationship and their individual character. That even gave time to see their second time as boyfriend-girlfriend and how they handled their relationship this time around.
This is why I loved 16 ep when writer gave time to let the romance and their character grow in a organic way. I am ofte more for the slowly building up romance that feels more satisfying than those fast one like fast food.

It all depends on the end game and the skill of the director. I've seen plenty of short dramas that still feel as emotionally rewarding as one 16 or even 40 episodes long.

Written by the writer of Our Beloved Summer with these two leads - count me in. I think 10 episodes would be fine in lenghth if without any side stories of unneccessary or annoying second leads. Please just focus on our main characters.

… Not me thinking this actually was a movie. 👀😅
Already put a reminder on it! I really liked OBL, so I hope this will be good, too.

Oh! I single drop sounds good. So my Valentine weekend plans are sorted. Er, they won't go down the tragic path with the drama considering the release timing will they. 😅😂 I do appreciate a drama with a guaranteed Happy Ending. 😊❤
Our Beloved Summer is a tough act to follow. Will try to temper my excitement at "cautiously optimistic" and hope for the best. 🤞🏻 I genuinely like both leads and think they make a good pair. Hwaiting team. 💪🏻👏🏻 We are counting on you.
