Premiere Watch: The Tale of Lady Ok

Time slot: Saturday-Sunday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Sageuk, romance
Episode count: 16
Global streamer: Neflix, Viu, Kocowa

Reasons to watch: Im Ji-yeon has been making interesting choices after The Glory spotlighted her career — nary a light role in sight — but lo! We have a romance on our hands! In The Tale of Lady Ok, our heroine (Im) is no lady at all, but a serf who has taken on another woman’s identity. In her new life, she must constantly keep her guard up — because you never know when someone’s going to stab you in the back. Or when a handsome man from your past (ahem, Choo Young-woo) will return. Indeed, the cast swings young here — with Kim Jae-won and Yeonwoo in our secondary roles — but I’m hoping that means room for something dramatic and playful.

TL;DR: Im Ji-yeon is hiding her true identity and there are no hijinks like those hijinks

Well all I can say is that if it actually up to the promise of "dramatic and playful", we have a winner on our hands!!

Not seeing it on Netflix yet, maybe later in the day. It is on Kocowa, however.

If you're in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia (and presumably NZ), it's not currently licensed to stream on Netflix or Viki in those regions, only Kocowa.

If you live in the US and have access to a VPN set the country to South Korea and then open Netflix. Voila, there it is. I did this on my IPad and then cast to the TV

Maybe I could’ve checked it out on one of the illegal sites but the ones I knew are mostly all down now.

Also I think you’re plenty cool, @seeker!🫰

Hehehe ... I'll take the compliment, thank you!! 🙇‍♀️
But my *ahem* roundabout reference was for that cool now inaccessible site. 😅
Since @IsaGC has approved it now I must check it out on the other 😘-sh site and hopefully I'll get lucky. 👍🏻

Ah, I should’ve gotten your clue. It really is a shame so many of these unmentionable sites are gone because they were often the only places where I could freely access older shows and films. I hope I’ll get to check this out soon.

😘 refused to budge yesterday... A kdrama lover's life ahead looks bleak...

😱😱😱😱 Ottokhaji!! Andwae tell me it's not true @midnight 😭

@ladynightshade When all else fails these sites were our true source of joy. Especially for older dramas.

I was so happy thinking it will be on Netflix but apparently not for us. Just to mock us Netflix even prompted - ah! we don't have this drama you can watch Tale of the Nine-Tailed or Tale of Nokdu and a dozen some such. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

It is now elsewhere, but hard to share. But cool now has another name. The beginning is the same, but cool is gone. It is now go and ends with .in

I watched the first episode last night and I think it was very good. A solid start, imo.

It was quite long (1h23min) but never boring.

Tbh I was little off about the ML, especially since how he was pretty much overshadowed by Baek Sung-chul in Once Upon A Small Town. But from his very first scene in Lady Ok I loved him. You are so right, the episode didn't feel long at all.

* iffy about the ML

I liked his acting more in Oasis (even though I dropped it, or it's on hold, I don't know yet) than in Once upon a small town.

In Lady Ok I'm positively impressed so far.

1

I haven't watched Oasis so my impression was only from his previous drama. Here I'm liking him. There is so much story packed in these first two episodes I wonder what do they have planned for the next fourteen. The intrigue is already afoot. Guess we'll get to see case of the week till we come to the one big bad from Hanayan!?

I have favourited this on Netflix. Might watch it this evening after work.

I just finished episode 2, and I think sageuks are back, beanies. Like, this isn't a romance in hanboks, but a fun old school sageuk. I loved it.

Yay!! I love it too!! I'm excited to tag along with uri FL in her journey. And the ML omo how cute is he, without being cartoonish or exaggerated. 😊❤

This show did more in three hours than most shows these days do in twelve. 😂
I love the FL, her story, and progression of the romance too.
I'm so invested!!

Thatbis the best part and like @IsaGC said it doesn't even feel that long!! I appreciated the fact that we got to see our FL's journey and the romance was so meaningful.

Yes! I feel like we got a great intro in these two episodes. Now I'm excited for the part 2 of uri lady's journey.

I liked it, long episodes but they are packed with drama . Hope the story keeps up.

A shout out to the Falling Flaming Timbers of Doom trope making a quick cameo.
