Kim Hae-sook and Jung Ji-so become the new Miss Granny

Clockwise: Kim Hae-sook, Jung Ji-so, Chae Won-bin, Jinyoung

The hit 2014 comedy movie Miss Granny is getting a drama remake over at KBS. While the TV adaptation will follow the general premise of the original, it seems some changes have been made — specifically a few notable gender swaps.

Kim Hae-sook (Gyeongseong Creature 2) stars as the titular Granny Oh Mal-soon. At a young age, she lost her husband and raised her daughter as a single parent running a restaurant. Fifty years later, she gets into a fight with her daughter, and Mal-soon magically returns to her younger self. Taking advantage of this chance to relive her youth, she chases after her unfulfilled dream of becoming a singer.

Playing the younger version of Mal-soon is Jung Ji-so (The Glory). In order to hide her real identity, she masquerades as “Oh Doo-ri” (an homage to her favorite star Audrey Hepburn). She joins Unis Entertainment as an idol trainee, but the path forward will have many challenges for the seventy-year-old granny stuck in a much younger body.

Returning from the original movie is Jinyoung (Sweet Home 3), but instead of Mal-soon’s rock-and-roll grandson, he will play the chief producer of Unis Entertainment Daniel Han. From songwriting to producing, Daniel is responsible for every aspect of his idol groups and is known as a genius in the field. However, his lustrous career hits a bump when he meets the mysterious Doo-ri.

Taking over Jinyoung’s role as Mal-soon’s grandchild is Chae Won-bin (Doubt) as model student Choi Hana. Despite being ranked number one in her school, Hana dreams of becoming a singer much like her grandmother and joins the same management company as Doo-ri.

Directed by Park Yong-soon (Secret Mother) with scripts penned by Heo Seung-min (Risky Romance), KBS’s Miss Granny premieres next month in the Wednesday-Thursday slot following Face Me.

I'm unfamiliar with the movie, but this does sound interesting. Also totally here for seeing Jinyoung and Chae Won-bin in the same project again after Sweet Home.

Did Kim So-hyun turn it down? I was initially only somewhat interested, but now I have no interest at all.
Love the movie and Shim Eun-kyun.
