Choo Young-woo’s stolen moments with Lady Ok, Im Ji-yeon

Our wayward storyteller Choo Young-woo (Oasis) has rolled into town in JTBC’s latest teaser, setting off his chapter in The Tale of Lady Ok where romance begins to bud with our heroine Im Ji-yeon (The Killing Vote).

Although she was born a lowly slave named Gu-deok (Im Ji-yeon), she seized on fate’s chance to conceal her past and took on the identity of the privileged Lady Ok Tae-young. But it is of course a risky deceit, putting her life on the line should she get caught. Tae-young is thus caught off guard when the teaser begins with Cheon Seung-hwi (Choo Young-woo) recognizing her from the old days in Hanyang, greeting her familiarly by her real name.

A gushing fan then introduces us to our hero, describing Seung-hwi as a renown storyteller whose fame and popularity has risen up to the heavens themselves. A curious Sung Dong-il (Han River Police) asks if there’s someone in Seung-hwi’s heart. And the sequence makes it clear that “the woman” Seung-hwi refers to is Tae-young as we watch him come to her rescue time and time again.

Worried and feeling guilty, Tae-young pleads with Seung-hwi to stop risking his life for her. However, Seung-hwi, in turn, tells her not to say such things and the teaser closes with his confession that, “If someday I’m caught, I may not be able to escape death. But I’m not afraid of dying either. These few days that I spent together with you were the happiest days of my life.”

With production for the fictional sageuk led by PD Jin Hyuk (Sisyphus: The Myth, Legend of the Blue Sea) and writer Park Ji-sook (Uncle), JTBC’s The Tale of Lady Ok will be premiering next week on November 30.

Lady? Ok! I'm Ji-yeon.

Side note, I'm so, so happy to see that we appear to be in for a return of Choo Young-woo's dancing chops in this drama. Also, if this sageuk maintains a light side even through the storms that will clearly be on the horizon...that would be very welcome.

I don’t think I’ve seen a storyteller sageuk ML before! He’s not secretly a prince, right? Hopefully that role falls to Prince Flight Attendant (who is *ahem* already a prince anyway). I’m looking forward to this one. If it’s anything as beautiful as the posters have been, we’re in for a treat.

It wouldn’t be a sageuk without some secret identity shenanigans. The FL has one but does the ML have one too!? Hmm.

I am loving these trailers showing the drama alongside the lighter moments so we can make an informed decision about whether it’s our kind of drama or not. So far, so good it looks like a great watch. Part of the Matchmakers, Knight flower stronger than they are allowed to be, secret identity women series.

The teasers are really amping it up. It does seem feel-good with a good dose of angst. The treatment makes all the difference. This ML seems an interesting mix of characteristics.
