[Beanie Recs] Dramas with a helpful, wonderful secretary character

Ahoy, Beanies! It’s time to gather your collective genius for a recommendation series that features you and your drama knowledge. We’ll drop a drama conundrum and leave it up to you to provide a drama rec, and the appropriate rationale behind it, be it long or short.

I know it’s not till next year but I’m already gunning for this Han Ji-min + Lee Jun-hyuk romance drama. Yes they are both great, but he plays her faithful secretary! And there’s a romance! OMG, I don’t know if there is a standard K-drama character I like more than the faithful secretary. So, are there any other dramas about helpful and wonderful secretary characters that I might be missing? All I can think of is The Secret Life of My Secretary. I need to pre-fill the void over here. It doesn’t have to be a romance, but it kinda should be, amirite?

Unlock the Boss is probably the right vibe for this request, I should think!

But also consider Business Proposal and Hyena, which both have wonderful secretaries who are closer to sidekicks, or "partners in crime," than office assistants. Neither is about a romance between the boss and secretary, which I sometimes find can skirt the line of feeling creepy because of the power the boss does hold over the assistant anyway.

See, for example, Crazy Love.

"Going even-further-off-topic Beanie-style," might I also offer No Gain No Love as an example of a secretary who is hilariously the opposite of helpful and supportive? In retrospect, sassy, sexy Secretary Yeo was one of the highlights of that drama--and also of Spice up Our Love...

There are Protect the Boss, Falling for Innocence (not sure if she was a secretary), What's Wrong with Secretary Kim with a love story.

There is the JDrama Rich Man, Poor Woman that was pretty nice.

Lee Jun-Hyuk plays a sort-of secretary character in Are You Human Too? and totally stole all my attention in that drama 👀 No romance there, though. In Touch Your Heart, the FL works part-time as a secretary to prepare for a role (+romance). So I Married an Anti-Fan has one of my FAVORITE "secretary"-type characters (although he is the ML's manager, but it still counts, right?). It's a bit of a stretch, but the ML in Into the Ring plays the FL's secretary for a bit, and it's one of my favorite rom-coms in a drama. Perfect Marriage Revenge has a ~mysterious~ secretary who is also🔥.

Memories of the Alhambra: Min Jin Woong as the faithful secretary of Hyun Bin.

Secretary Gwon (Yoo Sun) in Clean with passion for now.

Fated to love you. The FL is a secretary but only at the beginning.

And I have just started Jugglers. The FL is also a secretary.

My favorite Secretary drama has two names. 😅🙃😂

Reach of Sincerity also known as Touch Your Heart.

Yoo In-na sending notes to Lee Dong-wook written on pink heart-shaped post-its. What's not to love. 🩷

Wherever there's a chaebol, there's usually also a secretary (helpfulness might be debatable!) Like the FL's assistant in Queen of Tears and the ML's secretary in The Beauty Inside. The latter was rather memorably snarky and funny.

Can we find opposite genders where they did not fall in love?

This is a great question, Jerry! **Checks Drama Spreadsheet**

How about Divorce Attorney Shin? Lee Seo-jin is more Shin Sung-han's paralegal-without-training, but basically also secretary, right?

Also, remind me, didn't Han Sang-Jin (the older publishing boss) do the right thing and reject his young, flirtatious secretary in the end?? I could be mis-remembering that.

Lastly--I say this knowing it will be very controversial--what about My Mister?

Sorry, Hang Sang-Jin was the publishing boss in Bora, Deborah!/True to Love.

Confession has a rather unique situation of a lawyer and his very competent secretary, with Nam Ki Ae playing the secretary to Lee Junho. No romance. A bit better than romance. For me.

Memory, the only time I have liked Yoon So Hee's acting to date, playing a very competent secretary to Lee Sung Min, a lawyer succumbing to Alzheimer's. Again, no romance.

Agency, Han Joon Woo plays an exasperated competent secretary to Son Na Eun's flippant chaebol boss. Romance all the way, which I didn't like honestly. He should have ended up with Lee Bo Young's character, a self-made boss. He even had an inkling of a crush on her in the beginning.
