Mr. Plankton Woo Do-hwan goes dad-hunting with Lee Yumi

Not all who wander are lost. Some are just on a cross-country mission to locate their long-lost father before their life is cut short by terminal illness. Oh, and wouldn’t you know it, that’s also our lead for Netflix’s Mr. Plankton, Woo Do-hwan (Bloodhounds). In the latest trailer, we follow him and his unwitting tag team, Lee Yumi (Strong Girl Nam-soon) and Oh Jung-se (Sweet Home 3), as they search for something to give their lives meaning.

We open on Hae Jo (Woo Do-hwan) as he crashes a wedding for fun and drives away with the bride. Having grown up without any family to keep him tethered, he’s lacking in the sensibility department. It’s partially what ruined his relationship with his last girlfriend, Jae-mi (Lee Yumi).

Jae-mi has only ever wanted to be a mother. It’s why she broke up with Hae Jo (who coldly told her she could never be a mother) and why she’s determined to marry her fiancee, the rich but timid Eo-hung (Oh Jung-se) — he’s equally determined to marry Jae-mi for love, even if that means lying to his family that she’s pregnant to protect her.

But things hit a bump the day of the wedding, when Hae Jo shows up, much to Jae-mi’s surprise. Why on earth is her ex crashing her wedding, you may ask? He needs to go find someone — his biological dad — and he wants Jae-mi to come with him. He knows she isn’t actually pregnant. And he also isn’t about to take no for an answer as he carries her into his car and drives off.

And with that, the chase is afoot. While Hae Jo and Jae-mi travel the country looking for his father (Jae-mi: “We’re looking for the sperm that created this guy!”), Eo-hung is right behind them, trying to reunite with his runaway bride.

Through all the ups and downs of their cat-and-mouse escapade, the three of them discover how their meaning in life doesn’t have to be tied down to some destination. There’s beauty in the journey. As shared by Hae Jo at the end of the trailer, “If you lose your way while wandering aimlessly, it doesn’t set you adrift. It just makes you a drifter.”

Written by Jo Yong (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay) and directed by Hong Jong-chan (Link: Eat Love Kill, Dear My Friends), Netflix’s Mr. Plankton will be released for streaming on November 8.
