News bites: September 25, 2024

  • Junho (King the Land) is reviewing an offer for a new underdog series called Typhoon Corporation (roughly translated), tapped to play the CEO of his late father’s company but struggling to keep business afloat amidst the IMF crisis in 1990s South Korea. Production is reportedly in discussions to air on tvN next year, with PD Lee Na-jung (See You in My 19th Life, Fight My Way) attached to direct. [Star News]

  • In the meantime, co-star Yoon-ah (King the Land) is in talks for the new fantasy The Tyrant’s Chef (roughly translated) and, if she accepts, she’ll be going on a timeslip to the royal kitchens in the Joseon era. With the story adapted from a popular webnovel, the series will have PD Jang Tae-yoo (Knight Flower, Hyena) as the talent behind the camera. [Osen, Sports Chosun]

  • The period promos continue on tvN with the newest poster for Jeongnyeon – The Star Is Born, this time crafting a newsprint flyer to hand out to passerbys in the streets of 1950. Come October 12, Kim Tae-ri (Revenant) will be pursuing her dream to stand on center stage, alongside Shin Ye-eun (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse), Ra Mi-ran (Cold Blooded Intern), Jung Eun-chae (Your Honor), and Kim Yoon-hye (Goodbye Earth). • A new poster has also dropped for TVING’s Dong-jae, the Good or the Bastard, readying us for the upcoming stand-off between our hero Lee Jun-hyuk (Vigilante) and Park Sung-woong (Dog Knows Everything). As a spin-off of the acclaimed Forest of Secrets series, the 10-episode crime drama will be launching soon on October 10. [Sports Donga]

  • MBC is changing course from the dark, early promos for Doubt to reveal the once warmer relationship between our father-daughter pair in the latest poster. Starring Han Seok-kyu (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3), Chae Won-bin (Sweet Home 3), and Han Ye-ri (One Day Off) among others, the mystery-suspense will be airing on weekends starting October 11. [MBC]
  • Netflix released new character posters accompanied by a new teaser, taking us back into the chaotic world of Hellbound in this second season. Premiering next month on October 25, the fantasy horror is headlined by Kim Hyun-joo (The Bequeathed), Kim Sung-chul (No Way Out – The Roulette), and Kim Shin-rok (Sweet Home 3), in addition to Im Sung-jae (The Worst of Evil), Moon Sori (Race), and Moon Geun-young (Catch the Ghost). Good choices for Junho and Yoon-ah. Hope they accept.

Jeongnyeon’s promotional team is top notch - with each poster better than the last. 🤣 But is it really getting released!?

I am getting excited to watch Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard. I think I already know the answer but it will be good to see him try to change our mind anyway.

Hmmm, even if we ignore the fact that he wasn't the ceo, but the ceo's son in his previous drama, I don't think this really is being typecast 🤔 But we will see I guess 😊

They all sound so good to me except Hellbound because I didn't watch the first season. Is it good? I'll follow Junho and Yoona anywhere so its good news to see them both considering new dramas. Availability is my biggest concern lately.

I liked the first season of "Hellbound," but I can't say I was dying for a second.

Dang, you filmmakers and your excessive gore and violent dramas can be a bit much. I'm reluctantly going to check out "Hellbound 2" for Kim Sung-chul and the rest of the cast. I hope I'll make it past the first episode.

The top three are all on the list. I particularly like the sound of the kitchen drama if it stays with the minions and away from the usual focus on palace politics it could be very interesting.

I am so looking forward to the 1950’s drama it is really capturing the mood well. It’s going to be great seeing so many female actors in a character led drama with limited males to overshadow their roles.
