[K-drama Treasure Hunt] Feeding stray cats

Welcome to the K-drama treasure hunt, where we all go looking for K-drama treasure in the form of tiny drama details that we know and love. Sometimes these details take the shape of well-worn tropes (oppa Band-Aiding) or storytelling devices (Top Secret Deadly Allergy), but other times it’s just details we know we’ve seen in other dramas, but need help putting all the clues together.

Each week we’ll put you on the hunt for a piece of K-drama treasure, and you can report your findings in the comments.

There’s no umpire in this game, so if you find the detail we’re looking for, drop the drama title (or even better, drama title + episode number) in the comments, and we’ll all take your word for it. Or, we’ll go binge watch just to see it play out.

And remember, we’re here to map our way to the treasures not to the plot twists! We know how exciting it can be to have all the hard-earned details stashed in your head, but let’s try to keep the spoilers out of the comments.

This week’s treasure:

Feeding stray cats

Your mission:

Find as many scenes as you can where a character feeds a stray cat. Our drama leads love hanging out in alleys and side streets where cute kitties are in need of extra care. If you know a scene where someone stops to offer food to a feline (like our polyamorous protagonist did in DNA Lover this week), then you’ve got a winning answer.

Reference drama:

DNA Lover (Episode 5)

K2, episode 1, Ji Changwook's character was eating dried squid when a stray cat was around, so he gave the cat some of the dried squid.

Wok of love, Poong (Junho) and Saewoo (Jung Ryeowon) fed a stray cat many times, so I don't remember the exact episodes.

It's Chil Seong - the Loan Shark With a Heart of Gold if ever there was one - who feeds that kitten. He is the kitten's "mum".

I can't say the episodes but some dramas where someone feeds stray cats are:

_ While you were sleeping (Kang Ki Young's character).
_ My Sweet Mobster (Yang Hyun Min's character).

I didn't know if murderers counted. While you were sleeping did come to mind

Oh, doesn't she start out by feeding that cat in Miss Night and Day?

(Funny, because "mis" in Danish is a petname for all cats, corresponding to "pussy" but with less (though some) of the non-cat connotation).

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT: The ML comes over to the FL's house to feed the strays outside. The flirting and the tension while they are feeding the cats are all the feels--such great chemistry by grown ups.

True! I always forget to mention C-dramas in these treasure hunts.

That's the first that come to my mind!
But feeding stay cats is quite frequent in cdramas... in Dine with love they bond over the food for the cat, and in Love at night rescuing the kitten is a proximity pretext.

The OTP in As Beautiful as You bond over a stray cat in college. ML later adopts it and uses it to facilitate his reconciliation with FL.

In My love, enlighten me (another C-drama) the FL finds a stray cat and takes it to the house she is sharing with the ML.
They name the cat "Hotpot".

Miss Night and Day: The cat was the best character in the drama (Miss Day was the best human, of course 😅). I loved how soothing her presence was amid all the chaos. I remember how Miss Night (before she was bifurcated into night and day) fed her milk from her palms. Awwww.. I bet the cat was CGI, though.

There were also (definitely real) cats in the cat-shelter that the protagonist and her lovely loyal bestie (second best thing in the drama) feed in the end. On the whole, that drama was kinder to the cats than it was to any human character 😂

Sorry if it stirs up bad memories, but Cat Man from Heartbeat. A stray who did not end up bringing the OTP together in a heartwarming way.

First drama that comes straight about feeding stray cat is definitely While you were Sleeping- Suzy looking for her missing piece of chicken and found out KiYong stole each piece from each order.
And the redflag of being a psychopath for feeding the cat just to poison them later 😱.

This drama also marking Kang Ki Yong as one of the great actor, even in smaller role. From hilarious scholar in 7days Queen to psycho in WYWS, great mentor in Attorney WYW, he can nailed it!

The cat becomes almost a symbol of the evolving relationship between Se-hee and Ji-ho in Because This Is My First Life. At one point, Ji-ho—whose only responsibility is to occasionally feed Se-hee’s cat (whom he just calls “Cat,”)—takes it upon herself to give it what she thinks is a proper name. She even goes so far as to get it a nametag. Se-hee gets angry at her presumption. By the end of the show, they’ve become a couple, with “Uri” wearing the nametag.

I think I remember someone feeding a cat in The Frog. I think it was the ML and the friend who occasionally helped look after his place.

Loved the beautiful cat in BTIMFL, Cat/Uri! Obviously, just look at my DB name 🐱 She started out as a stray rescued by Se Hee in a flashback but is a beloved indoor pet during the show.

I think there was also one in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, when they were trying to find the restaurant owner in Jeju and followed the man who looked suspicious but he was only feeding cats.

Deerling Jae-soo was a secret stay cat feeder. 😂🤣

His suspicious behavior always gave rise to (viewers) speculation but then the cat was finally out if the bag!! 🙃😄
