Hwang In-yub was once and always Family by Choice

New promos have arrived for JTBC’s upcoming Family by Choice, giving us another peek into the found family life with our squabbling-but-doting three siblings: Hwang In-yub (Why Her), Jung Chae-yeon (The Golden Spoon), and Bae Hyun-sung (Miraculous Brothers).

Opening with introductions to the main teenage trio, the teaser begins with the bunny-like youngest, Yoon Joo-won (Jung Chae-yeon) who can roar like a tiger but is not quite a threat. Next is the porcupine Kim San-ha (Hwang In-yub), nagging prickly about the right thing to do, while also revealing his inner sweet side. We then move onto the energetic dolphin Kang Hae-joon who is both happy-go-lucky and the crybaby of our group.

As the eldest – though not by much – it seems San-ha keeps an eye out on the other two at school, always ready to swoop in for a rescue or an offer of treats, helping to lift those frowns into smiles. But despite our characters forging bonds stronger than blood, they’ll soon be facing new life challenges as the kids come of age and leave high school behind.

Though it’s not fully explained in the sequence, the guess is that San-ha is going away somewhere for college and Joo-won expresses her disappointment – that is repeated in the captions – having innocently thought that their happy little family would live like this forever. The teaser then closes on San-ha’s hopeful promise that they’ll be together again when he returns.

Based on the hit Chinese drama Go Ahead, the Korean remake has PD Kim Seung-ho (Joseon Attorney, Twenty Five Twenty One) directing with scripts by Hong Shi-young. Slated to premiere on October 9, JTBC’s Family by Choice will be airing two episodes a week on Wednesdays and streaming internationally on Viki and Viu, depending on the region.
