Premiere Watch: The Frog

Time slot: Friday (single drop)
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Thriller, suspense, mystery
Episode count: 8

Reasons to watch: Actor Kim Yoon-seok returns to the small screen (a growing trending, eh?) in Netflix’s latest suspense drama The Frog. Also starring Go Min-shi, Yoon Kye-sang, Park Ji-hwan, and Lee Jung-eun in a loaded cast, our PD is of A Couple’s World fame. Love or hate that one, there is no denying our PD can create a life-threatening amount of dramatic tension. So between this cast, the mysterious remote woodland cabin setting, and all the mayhem set to unfold, this is going to be a thrilling ride that I’ll definitely pass on.

TL;DR: I’m not sure who “the frog” is, but this will surely be an important role for Go Min-shi

"a young woman goes to stay at an older man's vacation cottage in the woods and a mystery from the past comes to light"
The mysteries I can think of are:
- Why does Asianwiki not know who the writer is? Is there even one with a name or is it just an AI?
- Why does a certain unofficial "cool" site think it airs on Thursday but also on Aug 23?
- If there's a Frog, where is the Prince Charming? What happens in the kiss scene?

The writer is listed elsewhere as Son Ho-young.

It’s possible I could do this as a movie, but eight-ish hours seems like a lot of time to be super tense. If the reviews end up great I’ll reconsider.

The title is inspired by the Korean saying "A carelessly thrown stone can kill a frog.""Frogs," or ordinary individuals, who are suddenly faced with terrible misfortune such as the recent theme in TAROT series.

I read in an article that The Frog refers to an old Korean saying, “A frog dies from a stone thrown inadvertently,” which means people’s actions can have unintended negative consequences for others. So, each episode of The Frog begins with one of the characters uttering the famous philosophical thought experiment: “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

I started watching this show thinking that both murders happened from different timeline are related; could be done by the same seriel killer, because it is so easy to hide your nasty work in such a remote place. When it ended, I think this is just accidentally similar murders happened in the same place with different timeline by two different unrelated murderers who both enjoy decapitated their victims.

In the old timeline, the male killer killed a female guest of the motel and got into the prison, while in the current timeline, the female murderer is not just satisfied killing her underage stepson and disposed his body somewhere in the lake near the motel, she also killed a policeman and cut his body into two. She is just a plain psycho who enjoy killing. The only satisfaction is Chanyeol's character (the son of the previous owner) got his revenge and the current owner of the motel help him clean up his mess.

Lee Jung Eun's character as the chief detective is not satisfying enough, well after her fine performance in Miss Night and Day. Her character only shined enough in the final episode.

If a tree falls in a forest, will it make a sound, or will there be only silence? In the end, the saying is kind of related to the psycho's missing stepson; because nobody knows what really happened to the boy.

Was totally shocked to see the user ratings, and there was only one rating (i tried to add a rating but can’t work? idk). Finished it in a day and I don’t watch sweet home for the gore (oh the irony) but i think this is one the best role yet for Go Minsi. And actually for me one of the best netflix original thriller only second to Extracurricular I think. So give it a go!!
