Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching (July 13, 2024)

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Connection: Somehow I missed the moment when they let the universe know this drama was 14 — not 16 — episodes, because I was not ready to say goodbye so fast. But I loved it. Ji Sung really picks such fabulous scripts, and this one was fun right through the end. While I might have tweaked a few things if it was me, I’m not sorry how it ended, and I have all-new levels of appreciation for Kwon Yul and Kim Kyung-nam now.

Red Swan: Have to say, now that I know what to expect with this one (heavy duty silly melo), I’m all on board. It’s funnnn! I have no idea what I’m watching but I’m not sorry. You can continue to have Rain brood and wrist grab and beat people in the ring and I would be here for it.

Player: Should I have watched this first season before the second one? Probably, but what’s done is done. And I just couldn’t resist diving right back in at the actual beginning now that Season 2 is over and has left me with a giant crush on a certain con artist… In some ways, it’s even more fun watching the seasons in reverse like this — I already know and love the characters, and now I get the origin story of how they came to be. I must say, though, Season 1 feels way more fast-paced and frantic, in a good way.

I'm still watching Miss Night and Day and I also caught the first two episodes of Good Partner.

I am still enjoying Miss Night and Day, in spite of a plot that I can't help but find really strange. Is the protagonist's aunt alive somewhere? Or is she dead? How can the protagonist turn into her aunt during the day but her mom doesn't recognize her? I wasn't really thinking that hard about these technical problems until the bad guy checked the main character's blood type when she was a middle aged lady during the day.

I still think Lee Jung-eun is amazing. This show runs on her acting. I love Jung Eunji, but even more I love Lee Jung-eun convincing us she is Jung Eunji.

The Good Partner is the third or fourth show about divorce lawyers that I've watched. I feel like they went right for the throat right away, picking totally traumatizing stories to trigger the POV character. Nam Ji-hyun might always play an innocent person who is outraged by the corruption of the society around her, but she manages not to make all her characters feel the same. Anyway she's as squeaky as ever. I'm not sure whether I will stick with this one or not. It's only two episodes in.

Miss Night & Day - only 2 eps so far bc where I live, that is all we've gotten.

The Third Charm - I think they meant "Third time's the charm"? Anyways, I just wanted more of my favorite robot BF - Seo Kang Jun <3. Only 4 eps in. Meh. I like it but I hate the way Esom treats him.

Kim's Convenience - 4th time I think. While not a kdrama, it's a Canadian comedy about a family of Koreans expats. Played by 2 Koreans (the parents), a Chinese-looking Korean (Janet), and a Chinese guy (the son) with Korean bestie played by a Philipino (Kimchi). OY VEY. It's good for a few laughs.
